  1. Hi Ali, I forgot to tell you that you need to start taking a B12 RIGHT AWAY, get the sublingual that dissolves under your tongue. You will need to take this for the rest of your life - just trust me on this one. So run out & get your B12, I take 1,000mg a day - you could probably start taking 2,000 maybe search for B12 on here & see what other people...
  2. I am familiar with that rash from when my son was a baby & his son, now 11. I am double DQ1 & my grandson is also. My son would eat a soda cracker & get diarrhea running down his leg (sorry if TMI) I went to the health food store & bought rice crackers for him. Bottom line not sure what label you can put on this but I would not feed...
  3. are you dairy free? what foods are you eating in a typical day?
  4. Hi & welcome, you have the dreaded double DQ1 genes That means that you can also have neurological problems & other food allergies, which seems to be common with DQ1. I am double DQ1 as is m family & some friends. including myself I personally know 4 people that have DQ1 & cannot eat dairy. I keep trying to add it back in, but it is...
  5. charlene, just wanted to say Hi, & I like the way you think Hope you are doing well on your food journey.
  6. bottom line, Martha is probably just testing the waters to see if a "Martha Stewart cooks gluten free" cookbook would be a runaway best seller. Wonder how long till it comes out
  7. Bravie, I do not have health insurance either. I have not had health insurance for 7 years. I just paid about $400.00 for labs, dr visit & antibiotic for a bladder infection. I am sure I got it from being glutened big time when I ate out about 6 weeks ago & then a couple times at Pei Wei, I think they have not been cooking my veggies in plain water...
  8. Bravie, with your anger, you might want to get tested for ADHD, you might need medication. Yes, it is difficult, but a lot of us do it easily. We did have a leaning curve but we made it though it. It just depends on how careful you want to be starting out. I think you know what to do if you do not want to be sick. Cook your meals at home & freeze...
  9. Sorry to hear about your daughter. Yes, alcoholism is another sign of a gluten problem. My brother is an alcoholic. Your daughter is grown now, she has made bad choices & she will have to pay for them. either in or out of prison. If she does prison at least she could be out in 10 years & start over, not bad considering she could live to be 8...
  10. I also had those leg pains as a child. They are no fun. You might find that your gluten intolerant son has a worse reaction from gluten than the celiac son. It is so sad how the testing misses these kids. Good for your son that you knew about gluten free because of the first diagnosis. I think that he will be 100% better on the diet. & yes, although...
  11. All your symptoms sound like it could be celiac. That pain in the left side is very common & a lot of people that I know had that. One of my new friends went to the gastro for years & he could never find out what was wrong, she could not sleep at night because the pain was so bad. I also hear of a lot of people that get sick on pizza, I think that...
  12. I am currently taking Cipro for a bad bladder infection. (ate out & got glutened a few weeks ago...) You have to be dairy free when you take Cipro & stay out of the sun... Boils ccould also be HS, (no way can I remember how to spell this, but you can google HS disease...) which is an auto immune disease of the sweat glands, causes fever &...
  13. That girl sounds "fragile" & I would NEVER do a gluten challenge on her. If you want more testing go thru Enterolab.com & get their tests & check the genes also. I would aslo get all the allergy testing (I am a lifelong sufferer of food allergies). along with that I would read the book "Eat Right for your Blood type" not a gluten free...
  14. We have RA in my family & but I do not have it. I think it is because of my lifelong attention to my diet because of food allergies. I was allergic to barley & oats for 35 years & for the past 10 years I was wheat light & then gluten free now for 3 years. BUT, I rarely eat any replacement grains, & I do not eat beef & I do not eat...
  15. Oh Julie, I know what you mean, It just seems that some families get everything. It is just so sad to see the young ones die of cancer and things. I think you should vent a little more, maybe once a day, that is only a few minutes & you have 24 hours in each day, so there is plenty of time to vent a little & recoup for the rest of the day. Are...
  16. sorry, I cannot say that I ever cheat or feel like cheating. I think maybe you feel like you are deprived and of course when faced with something that you are deprived of you are going to go for it. I have a different mind set. I think that I can have anything that I choose to have. I choose to not eat gluten or dairy. My choice because I know that...
  17. Thanks, I am sure this will be usefull to a lot of people... & me, I love staying on a budget & consider it a challenge to live well on nothing!!!!
  18. Hi horsegirl, I offer you a lot of hugs & all my sympathies... I am also double DQ1 & yes, most people do not get it that gluten makes us sooooo sick. you will be much healthier and will not have to go thru a lifetime of damaging your body (&the brain) like I have. since my mother died of colon cancer & I know so many other double DQ...
  19. Allison, I sent you an email with my phone number & the contacts for the Austin support group. Just call me & I can call you back, on my phone or email me your phone number & I will call you. Sorry, I jsut now got it done, I was running late today & had to get off the computer!!!
  20. I will email you, I am going to Austin tomorrow for the weekend. I will be staying in a hotel on I35... I will also find the number of the support lady there, she is really nice - well I am too!!!
  21. I think I have a solution for this nit picking junk, I think I will only refer to the condition that keeps us from eating gluten as a "GLUTEN PROBLEM". SO IF YOU HAVE A GLUTEN PROBLEM ENTEROLAB.COM IS THE BEST PLACE TO GO. and in my opinion in the long run it is the cheapest way to go also. well unless you want to continue eating gluten until you are half...
  22. yes, not being 100% is enough to keep you having problems, you are probably very sensitive. But, I know a couple of celiacs that eat like that, just enough to keep them from being bedridden... It will be interesting to see if the 90% people get any other autoimmune illnesses. Have you thought about testing at Enterolab.com for the gene test?
  23. ladyBug, How are you doing? I have been thinking of you...
  24. Dadoffiveboys, your family sounds exactly like my family of grandchildren, two of which I know are double DQ1, plus me & my son & others. I am also double DQ1. If you want to know which genes you have, go to Enterolab.com & get the test. I really wish you would & post which genes you have. Those of us that do not have DQ2 or DQ8 are trying...
  25. Is your son gluten free & dairy free? You do not need a doctors permission to change his diet...
