ARCHIVED Big Italian Christmas (aka... Big Gluten Christmas)
Creative-Soul replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with Nooner and Tarnalberry...take something with you that fits into the theme, and have a chat with his family. I would hope that as long as you let them know what you are planning to do that it would not become an issue. You have to safeguard your health above everything else! Enjoy your dinner! -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Restaurants In Nyc?
Creative-Soul replied to angel42's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I'd love to have that list as well! I'm curious as to the reviews you made as well; always on the lookout for safe places -

Ann: Thank you, and all the best to you as well! Lynne: Please bear with me if my thoughts don't seem coherant; I've been reacting to goodness-knows-what all day, so I'm sick and can't think straight! Would those antibody tests require that I eat gluten again? If so...no thank you! Even if they don't, I don't need tests to know that I need to be off...

ARCHIVED Another "why Don't They Get It" Thread
Creative-Soul replied to lonewolf's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, you should tell them that!!! I might've told that friend that she wasn't my daughter, and what my daughter knows about her own body is more important and pertinent than what everyone else seems to think. Actually, knowing me I would have simply said, " Really? How do you know?" Your daughter has more courage and common sense than most adults... -
GFMemphis, To make a long story short I have not had any "official" tests done; I just can't afford it, and I don't have insurance. I can barely afford to pay my own doctor as it is, and don't see him half as often as I should. He is a great guy - he lets me pay him via a payment plan; he's the kind of guy that also makes housecalls (in this day and...

ARCHIVED What Is Your Elf Name?
Creative-Soul replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I'm cracking up here...love this thread! My elf name is...Furry Fruitcake I'm not even going to say what my rejected crayon color is...definitely not cool! -
Hi, Mary! Glad to have you here as well. You are so fortunate to have a spouse that is so supportive of you! You are doing the right thing in taking it slow and allowing your system to heal first before tackling more complex/processed foods; it's best to keep things as simple as possible at first. Good luck with everything, and feel free to ask away if...

ARCHIVED Hi I Am New To The Group
Creative-Soul replied to JenniferBreedlove's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome! You'll find lots of helpful advice and support here. I'm glad you have a doctor who paid attention to you and takes you seriously. Here's the link to the dining cards if you haven't already found it. I ordered them recently and they're great. Now I can feed my obsession with Indian food again!!! https://www.celiac.com/catalog/product_info... -
I've been reading and enjoying this thread; as usual, am gleaning great information from this board! And I want to say welcome to the doctors here as well - I'm glad you found us and hope that we can be as much help to you as you have been to us here. I have a question regarding something that was raised in another thread recently - I've tried to find...

Just wanted to say "Welcome!" This will get easier as time goes by and you learn more about the diet and going Gluten free as a whole. You're going to have to be willing to adjust a bit from the onset...that made things much easier for me. What helps the most is concentrating on what I CAN eat, instead of what I CAN"T. And when I get the urge to feel...

This was the same senario I had with my Doc. as well. He seemed to know about celiac somewhat (beyond the basics). He also recommends natural remedies as well when applicable... its great to see that we all have supportive doctors. That's something to be grateful for!
-
Welcome! It will take a while for you to feel better, but you will, so just hang in there! Sometimes we feel worse as we are getting better as our bodies are adjusting to new habits while purging all the old stuff. Major change like this is also tiring on a mental/emotional level as well, so keep that in mind.

ARCHIVED What Are The Effects Of A Soy Allergy?
Creative-Soul replied to IrishKelly's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I'm now convinced that soy's a problem for me now as well...just finished a soy-challenge, and I found that I am reacting almost the same as I did when I was consuming diary; the watery eyes, sneezing my head off, fogginess and extreme exhaustion (spent most of today in bed, actually!). I just feel WRONG! -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease: Not Just A Gi Problem
Creative-Soul replied to Sophiekins's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am so happy to see this thread and all the research articles that I can dig into . The vast majority of my symptoms were definitely neurological; the depression/anxiety, panic attacks, agoraphobia, "brain fog" (I LOVE that term!), severe migraines and extreme exhaustion. I never had the diarhea issue but was constipated instead, and significant weight... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have Trouble With Sugar?
Creative-Soul replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I definitely have problems with (refined) sugar, so I stay away from it!!! I never used white sugar (or the usual sugar substitutes like Splenda) but loved brown cane sugar. For the past year or so I've used Stevia, but am going to slowly start experimenting with things like honey, maple syrup and the like again. My big issue is that everything tastes... -

ARCHIVED Do Any Biopsy-positive Celiacs Get Offended When Someone With
Creative-Soul replied to Nantzie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
"Celiac disease, also known as gluten intolerance, is a genetic disorder that affects 1 in 1331 Americans. Symptoms of celiac disease can range from the classic features, such as diarrhea, weight loss, and malnutrition, to latent symptoms such as isolated nutrient deficiencies but no gastrointestinal symptoms. " Anybody recognise that from the home page... -

ARCHIVED When It Comes To Cheese
Creative-Soul replied to Corkdarrr's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can certainly empathize... for years even though I KNEW I was allergic to dairy I would find many ways to sneak some cheese; that was my strongest weakness (even stronger than ice-cream was at one time)! But, like you, I found the strength within me to say no once, then twice...until it's now an ingrained thing that cheese is the enemy!! It took me long... -
ARCHIVED Let's Give Thanks!
Creative-Soul replied to melie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Melie, I recently did the same thing, and they were even more shocked as I can't even eat most of their products anymore!! ( I've recently become allergic to eggs and refined sugars) The representative who replied also shared that she understood the sugar issue because she, too, has to avoid sugars and artificial sweetners and so can't even eat gum... -
ARCHIVED Cnn Special On Celiac Tomorrow ?
Creative-Soul replied to Judyin Philly's topic in Publications & Publicity
It was great to see something on the national news about Celiac! I actually taped it and it was a good beginning. I thoght it was great for Ms. Collins to use her position to help get the word out some more and, as someone said earlier, we don't know if and how many hoops she had to jump through in order to be able to do this piece, so we should thank her... -

ARCHIVED Chemical Sensitivity
Creative-Soul replied to kbtoyssni's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have the same reaction, Nini! Perfumes, some hand lotions, toiletries...doesn't matter what, it sets me off; any sort of smoke also does the same thing. There were a few times I've actually just swollen up - especially my face - and develop a sky-high fever. I've always had sensitivities since childhood but they got much more severe @ 10 years ago (I'm... -
ARCHIVED Risk A Gluten-challenge?
Creative-Soul replied to allison's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Whether or not to do a challenge is a very difficult decision to make... for me, I couldn't afford any "official" testing anyway, so I finally decided to attempt one in July as sort of a definitive "diagnosis" for myself...I had been gluten-free for a while and decided that if I experienced any symptoms that would be enough proof for me! After the first...
