  1. Have a fantastic day!
  2. I had to come back after reading your post again, especially after seeing the comment the doctor made; he is SO right! I had my first breakdown at the age of seventeen while I was preparing to take my "A" Levels ( comparable thing here in the States - the SATs, I guess). I totally fell apart for about a good year or so, and still haven't fully recovered...
  3. Jayhawkmom, Isn't this a wonderful board / thread? I'm glad that you were proactive in getting your son re-evaluated and that you've finally gotten a definite answer; I take my hat off to you awesome parents, as my Mom never did that for me! So, here I am, all grown and trying to do that for myself, now. At least with a diagnosis you can now forge...
  4. I have always had a problem with chemical sensitivities, and have only discovered many of my food allergies recently (see my sig.). Most household cleaning products, air-fresheners, perfumes, smoke of any kind, the scent of many hygenic/toiletry products (like hand lotion, even!) cause me to go analphylactic... I can't do some over-the-counter meds...
  5. Sorry to hear about your glutening... I hope you're feeling much better now...it sucks when something previously 'safe' does a number on you!
  6. Great to have you here, and congrats on your decision to take the bull by the horns! You'll find great advice and support here - and wonderful people as well, of course!

    ARCHIVED New Here

Just popping in to join the welcoming committee ... glad that you've decided to end your lurking and join us!
  8. That happens to a lot of people - it did to me as well! For about the first week or so you may feel weird, then it should disapate.
  9. Good ... from reading all the posts on the board I was beginning to think that I was quite strange, being the only one who actually liked (brown) rice bread!!! It was the first one I tried after going gluten-free, and I always kept coming back to it even after trying others. I no longer eat bread, but I have fond memories...
  10. I just wanted to say hello and welcome; I hope you all feel better soon!
  11. You're doing wonderfully already! I just wanted to suggest a worry-free alternative to the gingerale; just get the actual ginger root and simmer little pieces of it in water - drink it as a tea. I always keep copious amounts of it in the house as it is also excellent as a digestive aid ( I'm drinking some right now!). I drink it as is, but you can add a...
  12. Some good restaurant ideas here: Open Original Shared Link.
  13. Welcome, ShannonS! You may want to have a look at Nini's 'newbie Survival Guide' on her website @ Open Original Shared Link if you haven't already! She has some great tips!
  14. Congratulations!!! It's great to see someone so young be - and remain! - so concientious of her health!
  15. Thanks for posting this! I just did mine...interesting questions... I hope many, many people take the time to do this; it only takes a few minutes!
  16. Great news...congratulations! You must be pleased that her doctor is now convinced about her condition...
  17. Marlene, its good to know that I'm not the only one!!! I've been taking digestive enzymes and Acidophilus by Country Life for a couple of months, now, and I've been having the most beautiful BMs that I've found myself wanting to photograph them!!! Yes, the first week was way hard for me too... I actually stopped taking them for a couple of days but...
  18. I had to read that about three times before replying... I'm speechless... Thank God your neice and her parents have you around as a voice of sanity! I hope they find a knowledgable doctor soon!!!
  19. Welcome to the board! Glad that you joined us and that you have gained some comfort in reading about some of our own experiences. Weekends are usually a 'slow' time around here; most people tend to post during the week, so hang tight! You're sure to get a flood of hellos and advice from tomorrow on!
  20. Now I don't feel like an alien... (the repeating and) the time/ hours thing is so true for me. If you ask me how many hours I did something, I couldn't tell you, but I could tell you when I began and stopped... **major lightbulb moment here!!** Ursa Major, I've always felt that way as well. Actually, I usually always have doubts that I am doing...
  21. Just wanted to say welcome aboard!
  22. I know... a part of me, though, would like to have the confirmation... The whole eye contact thing can be murder, especially when you can't explain or understand why it is so darned painful to do! As a kid and teen I couldn't do it at all ... One year as I was visiting my uncle in Toronto, he really noticed it and took it upon himself to 'cure' me of...
  23. Bare Minerals is largely gluten-free (some of their glosses / lipsticks aren't, though), and works very well for darker complexions; my best friend is dark chocolate and when she wears it you can't tell that she's not bare - skinned! Same for me... I use the tan collection myself. Pantene also has a product line for black hair. Do you just need information...
  24. Welcome, Allyson! Glad that you've decided to join us; you will find much support and lots of good information here!
  25. Thank you, Sandy! I've been looking at some of Mr. Attwood's books but was wondering how 'good' they were...thanks for the recommendation! Most of what I know is from web-articles, and they all - like the one you just shared - describe me perfectly. My therapist and I even went through word for word the diagnostic protocal that she uses for Aspergers...
