ARCHIVED Can't Take This Anymore
Creative-Soul replied to Kody's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Kody, I couldn't have said the above any better. Trust me, your health comes first!!! I too went through the whole brain fog thing, and much worse. Since my very early teens I became severely depressed, anxious, and had horrible panic attacks, and had my first breakdown at the ripe old age of 17 yrs. My depression was labelled by my mom as just teenage... -

ARCHIVED During Flare-ups . . . .
Creative-Soul replied to Rad3737's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So sorry to hear that you are feeling terrible... when I have any flare-ups I do a couple of things, depending on how bad it is / what the symptoms are. Generally I always keep a piece or two of ginger root around so I can steep some small pieces of it in simmering water to make tea; the heat is very soothing and ginger is great for the digestive system... -
Can you eat fruit? Last time I had a bout with stomach flu I stuck to eating lots of water-bearing fruit - like watermelon, grapes, cantalope - and drank distilled water and a little pure fruit juice; make sure that you stay hydrated. I wouldn't try to eat anything heavier than that right now... I hope you feel better soon, and that your appointment goes...

You need to avoid whey if you have issues with dairy as it is derived from dairy; I know because I had the same issue recently!

ARCHIVED Book-guide To Gluten Free For Vegetarians
Creative-Soul replied to ravenselene's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Great! I think that (ideally) eating as many whole foods as possible is the healthiest way to go, especially for folks like us who run the risk of greater vitamin/mineral deficiencies because of our food issues. I was vegetarian before finding out I had celiac, and became even more committed to it afterwards. I am thrilled that you're excluding refined sugars... -
ARCHIVED Book-guide To Gluten Free For Vegetarians
Creative-Soul replied to ravenselene's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with Tarnalberry; my frustration with vegetarian books is exactly along the lines of what she said! My dream book is vegetarian, gluten / dairy / egg / soy free (am not allergic to soy but there are so many who are). I am also allergic to refined sugar, and I know that many people don't use sugar as well as a matter of choice... I think it's great... -
ARCHIVED Made It Thru The First Year!
Creative-Soul replied to TinkerbellSwt's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I second everything Breann said...every chance I get I zip on here and read until I can't see straight, and it's great to find all the positives, like your reaching this milestone! Congrats to you! -
Hello and welcome! Like you I couldn't afford all the "official" tests, and my wonderful doctor agreed with me that my dietary response was enough proof that I was gluten intolerant/celiac. There are wonderful people here, and you have a safe place to gain support, get advice and vent when you need to!

ARCHIVED Do I Have To Avoid Wheat/gluten In Shampoo ?
Creative-Soul replied to breann6's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Not just shampoos and lotions...don't forget makeup, lip balms etc, and toothpaste! At first I didn't think this was a big deal either, but don't forget that skin is the body's largest organ and things do absorb into it. It's just not worth the risk of accidentally glutening yourself... -
ARCHIVED As News Gets Out...i Have Celiac Disease
Creative-Soul replied to Lisa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can't believe your parents did that! Wait...actually, I can...there are people who can only apply things to themselves, not others. I think it so rude and downright insulting, actually, some of the comments people make and things they do intentionally . I've found it easier to handle things when I remember to put myself first; my health is paramount... -
ARCHIVED The "gluten Safe" Kitchen
Creative-Soul replied to Helena's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sounds like you're doing a fantastic job, and you are so fortunate to have such understanding and supportive parents! Whether or not they wash their hands after handling or eating glutenous stuff may be an issue if afterwards they (knowingly or unknowingly) then handle your dishes or food items; I'd find a way to bring it up casually. Honestly, there is so... -
ARCHIVED Do You Want A Cigarette...
Creative-Soul replied to Compassion's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thank you for sharing that; it's an awesome perspective to have been given. You are fortunate to have such an understanding boss! -
I can relate to the migraine thing, and I agree with many of the others who suggest that you look at the possibility that you may have other food allergies / intolerances. In my experience my crippling migraines stopped almost immediately and completely (after 20 years + of suffering!) when I eliminated not only gluten but peanuts, sugar, chocolate and diary...

ARCHIVED Positive Experience At Work
Creative-Soul replied to lonewolf's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Lonewolf, I knew it really touched you to be thought of with such consideration, especially after what your BIL did to you! I remember reading that post while I was trying to read up on as much as possible (being a newbie!), and I was incensed, horrified and a little scared, quite frankly! I am glad that you do get to experience the reverse...thanks for sharing... -

ARCHIVED So Many Newbies Have Joined Us
Creative-Soul replied to Lisa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm so glad I saw this thread; my mission this morning was to post one of my own just to say thank you to all the veterans - and other newbies - for all of the help you've given me through the gracious sharing your stories and tips...I'm still poring through all the old posts a few pages at a time when I can until I can't see straight!!! I spent a a happy... -
ARCHIVED How/where Do I Find...? Is It Necessary..?
Creative-Soul replied to Creative-Soul's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks for the info, Daffadilly! I've always been in tune with my body, but am super-sensitive to all the cues and re-actions now, of course! I love the Lundburg brown rice cakes with raw cashew or almond butter (can't eat peanuts) occasionally. I've also been experimenting with Quinoa at times so I'm not just eating brown rice - every time I eat potatoes... -
ARCHIVED How/where Do I Find...? Is It Necessary..?
Creative-Soul replied to Creative-Soul's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sissy, I didn't know that myself until yesterday when I saw it in some of the previous posts! I'm definitely going to make sure my toothpaste is okay, and I've also been reminding myself constantly to keep washing my hands, especially after touching this keypad. I've been feeling so darned tired again lately -that's one of my uh-oh signals - and I'm almost... -
ARCHIVED How/where Do I Find...? Is It Necessary..?
Creative-Soul replied to Creative-Soul's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I share a house with gluten-eaters, so I'll definitely take these recommendations seriously. Thank you all SO much for all your suggestions; they are very appreciated! Since adjusting my diet a few times, I feel much better, but there are still some times when I feel symptoms like the old exhaustion creeping back and I scramble frantically trying to figure... -
ARCHIVED How/where Do I Find...? Is It Necessary..?
Creative-Soul posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've been poring through as many of the threads and posts as I possibly can in the past few days, but my eyes are getting tired!! I've learned a lot from the posts but didn't want to ask anything that's already on...but I'm a newbie so I'm going to ask anyway! I've seen it mentioned about people using gluten-free personal care products; I don't remember... -
Silverware?!? Cuttingboards?!?!? Personal care products??!?? See why this site is priceless??? I honestly didn't know! And computer keys??? Yeah, I can see myself having a lot of fun trying to explain that one... I need a lot of educating...HELP ME!!! I've been wondering why I still feel yucky sometimes even though I try so hard to be strict diet...

I discovered I was gluten-intolerant October 2005 after the worst episode of constipation I've ever had in my LIFE, and because of that I went on a light detox diet, then a gluten-free one (on the recommendation of a good friend) to give my suddenly sensitive stomach time to recover. I started to notice that I felt sooo much better; the exhaustion, bloating...
