  1. You have to read the labels. Some are safe, some are not. I like to eat ham, I ususally buy a 5 pound ham that is Farmland brand. I called the company about it, and they said they do not use gluten in any of their products.
  2. Nope, no Safeway. I have a Dillon's, which is Kroger. The last time I was in there, they had nothing. I will have to convince DH to take me back, so I can see if they have changed their stock.
  3. Thank you, Kaiti, I needed to see this list! I like to use red wine to ease my arthritis pain when I go to bed. It only takes three small swallows!
  4. I'm at 200 again this week. I have looked back over my weights, and noticed a pattern. I will have 2 weeks high (tom influenced), then two weeks of losing, then a spike back up for two weeks TOM. This time's high is lower than last time's, and my pants are fitting much looser, so I am happy!
  5. WooHoo!! National Allergy and Celiac Disease Month!! Now if only all of the tv channels would broadcast it during every commercial break!
  6. Hey, Michelle. Things will be all right. They will work out, one way or another. Something I've learned is that someone can be grownup without being mature. After your last final, go over and talk to him. Find out for sure if he wants to break up with you. You have to take care of yourself, and you need to expend your energies getting yourself better...
  7. Hmm, the base of the nail near the cuticle has always been the purply-bluest on my fingers. Never had moons of any shape or size. Perhaps because I've always had anemia! Must remember vitamins, must remember vitamins!
  8. It seems to me that painkillers, antinausea, antidiarrheal, and fluids is all they can do to help. They have stronger meds at the ER than we can get OTC, so it does help to alleviate the symptoms. I'm not sure that having the meds in pill form would help us, though, since the problem is in the intestines.
  9. Aaahh, Bean!! {{{hugs}}}!! The endoscopy and biopsy are not that bad at all. "Conscious Sedation" means that you are not put completely under, and do not require things like a respirator and something to keep your heart beating. I don't remember anything of mine after the throat spray until I woke up at home in my recliner. Perhaps the doctor wants...
  10. Your word on it is good enough for me! I tend to only use what I find on Celiac.com, though. It is the best site I have found so far, and I usually stick with what works and is accurate.
  11. I don't have a Giant store.
  12. Kaiti is right. Since he was glutenfree for almost a year, he will need around three months on gluten for a proper test diagnosis. None of the bloodtests or biopsies work on someone that is glutenfree! That's like looking for poison in the blood of someone that has never taken any!
  13. If you already have a positive diagnosis from a doctor, there really is no reason to go for more tests to see if you have celiac. If you do go on the gluten for 3-6 months just for an endoscopy, it is my opinion (humble or vaunted!) that you are wasting money and your life/health/time. For me to eat gluten, just a teenytiny amount, means two weeks of...
  14. You betcha it can! My gallbladder was "functioning stone-cold normal, with no stones" last year. I was sick, sick, sick, though, and all of the symptoms were the same as my mom and sister when their gallbladders went bad. I had the doc remove it, and I got so much better! Turned out it was scarred from being inflamed, and disease was causing the inflammation...
  15. Ditto what everyone else said! It is good to see that your school is at least looking at alternatives to food for parties and rewards!
  16. Since you eat potato chips at night because you are starving, try fixing another small meal, instead. Sometimes a little protein will stop the hunger pangs. Maybe your food is too limited. While you may need to limit >what< food you eat, I do not see a reason to limit ho much you eat. You will not put on needed weight if your calories are too restricted...
  17. OK, time for a seemingly stupid question: what are moons on the fingernails? My fingers have always been purply-blue under the nails, and I have always had ridges running lenthwise. They are not brittle, nor do they break easily. I do have problems with pernicious anemia, and require Bcomplex and iron supplements.
  18. Ah, this is funny! I would loan my husband, he loves to clean house! Alas, he will not go to someone else's to clean. We have spring-cleaning coming up, and I am exempt now because I can prove, in writing from a doctor, that I am allergic to dust mites. Sometimes I wonder about the psychosomatic side of things like this. Perhaps when we smell something...
  19. I don't eat out as often as I used to, nor do I eat just any ole where. Celiac and allergies dictate what I cannot eat, but I still will enjoy as much of life as I can! When my family wants to eat out, they choose a restaurant that I am able to get something to eat at. I have never been to a catering hall, so I don't know what it is like at one of those...
  20. Michelle, Comparing his paralysis to your celiac disease looks like comparing apples and biscuits at first, but really it is not. They are both limiting, both life-changing. Both require drastic changes in life. The difference is that people can see and comprehend paralysis. Perhaps he is not the guy for you, maybe he just needs time. You are not...
  21. Every day that goes by is one day closer to healing. Hang in there, your body is going through a detox phase right now. It will get better, it just takes time and perseverance.
  22. A Whole Health Specialist should already be looking at labels for ingredient lists. She should already be watching for gluten. It is not unreasonable to expect her to do her job. That said, I don't take anything unless I get to read the label for myself. It is a sad fact that we have to do this, but it is our health and lives that are at stake. My health...
  23. Keep us posted!
  24. When I get two conflicting opinions, I go for a third one. The first doc is right, you would not have antibodies without having celiac. The second is wrong, it is possible to have celiac, without having intestinal damage, especially if you went gluten-free several months before the biopsy. It is quite possible that you do have celiac, and other intolerances...
  25. Banana Splits at Sonic is my indulgence. I just wish they had the junior size ones all the time! I don't eat very many of them, just like once every other month, that way it stays a treat!
