  1. It sure makes it easier to cut things out when the difference is so dramatic. Glad you are finding the gluten-free diet helpful. Best of luck!
  2. No doubt gluten can evoke many different reactions. So do many other food. Legumes, other grains, lactose, nightshades, and salicylates could all be culprits. I had numerous rashes. Finally I discovered white potato to be the source of the itch.
  3. Cassidy has good advice. The only other thing to note are the vitamins. I recently realized I have trouble with salicaylates. I noticed some of the veggies you are eating are high. Once I lowered the level with foods it became evident that the vitamin suppilments were a problem for me. I am doing better now that I cut them out. The other big difference was...
  4. Kraft really does a great job!
  5. Doesn't Effexor have gluten? I was on it for several years. I felt better but the vomiting was out of control. Oh yeah the sweats were terrible as well. After a while I felt no emotion. I think the reason I liked it at first was that it ended the mood swings. After a while I realized I had no emotions at all. I lost the sadness, but also happiness. I...
  6. A bit off topic but worth mentioning. I have been on the elimination diet for a long time. I finally think I have cut out all reactive foods. So I can really see correlations beteen the foods I eat and the reactions to them. So funny thing happened last night.... Hershey's kisses are supposed to be okay. For dessert I had 5 kisses. Shortly afterwards...
  7. I keep mentioning that I iodine was a problem for me. It was hard to figure out. So I throw it out there whenever I see folks having trouble with thyroid and anemia. All I had to do was switch to uniodized salt. Suddenly the thyroid meds worked and I had no anemia, The doctors accused me of taking the meds improperly for 20 years. Finally when I discovered...
  8. MRSA (Methcillin Resistant Staph. Aureo-something) infections. Thanks for the tip. I will look into testing. I too am purging, cleaning and sterilizing everything.
  9. I recently began 5 mg of Amitripyline. I feel better but don't know if it is the meds or the diet changes. Effexor was a horrible story for me with long term use. Zyprexa was the absolute worst. Huge weight gain. 70 lbs in 2 months. I did not eat more. Quitting them both was an awful 5 week adjustment period. Lost all 70lbs.
  10. Vey helpful information. I will complete the elimination food diet over the next year. But I will look into the fibro and see a rhematologist. Weird thing about kids. My mom has been celiac all my life. My brother a brittle diabetic. At age 13 I decided I would not have children because of the hereditary factors. I became a teacher to fulfill a need...
  11. Sparlkes is wise. I as not diagnosed for 30 years. I hope the neuropathy is not permanent. I have cut out all grains linked by their Lectin class. I am having big improvements in the pain so far. Treats are tough. I eat MnM's and chocolae kisses with almonds. I spoke to hershey and the jolly rancher are okay too. I also like black olives as a snack...
  12. I feel like I stumbled onto something. Ursula's links to Lectins is worth a read for everyone who has commented here. Just 6 weeks ago I was really sick. Erratic blood sugars, flushing, muscle pain, migrane headaches. Long story short, I think the corn caused the migranes. I looked back and found I was always hungry before my period and ate cornmeal...
  13. Cork- I react to all of the things mentioned in your signature except caffine. I have found it helpful to avoid grain lectins, dairy lectins, and nightshade lectins. Try looking at classes of foods, it may save you time and illness. Sometimes foods can be tolerated in small infrequent amounts. Glutens should be avoided 100% if you test positve for it. ...
  14. We came up with celiac disease and had her tested, with all negative results. I showed up hypothyroid The pain was in disproportion to the injury and never went away. Instead, it progressed to other joints in my hands, feet, elbows, shoulders, and knees. the sacral area of my back began radiating pain. she noted duodenal ulcers, reflux, gastritis, and...
  15. I am so excited. I just cleaned the cupboards, no more lectin. Funny thing that most of the things I need to get rid of are things I added because if eliminations. Not really things I wanted to eat, but thought I should learn to like. Sure makes me think I should trust my instincts. Elimination diet sounds bad, but the results are so clear, it is worth...
  16. Happy to hear the school's more cooperative. And the doctors are checking in often. Feeling good is a great motivator. Gluten was hard. (I include oats)( Also soaps, lotions, and make up, as well as pans and the toaster) Dairy broke my heart until I found that I can do a little dairy. ( hard cheese, cream, and high fat ice cream) Nightshades were...
  17. Oh yes. I have gone through this exactly. I never had headaches until I cut out gluten. Not long ago I realized that corn and soy might be triggering migranes. I had increased the amounts of soy, corn and rice as gluten substitutes. Okay for many but bad for me. The other thing I noticed was that you are using white potato. You might want to look into...
  18. Thanks for letting me know I am not alone. I use elimination to determine most everything. It is reassuring to hear that salicylate elimination helped you guys. I used the link about a month ago to reduce them in my diet. I was wondering if it was really necessary, but I have felt so much better without them I had decided to continue that anyway. Your...
  19. I have to say thanks to everyone. I am so impressed with the suggestions I have gotten here. Since I joined the board you have helped me with nausea, sweats, migranes, congestion, cough, and skin problems. I mean it when I say Everyday in Everyway things are getting better. I have one issue left, and would appreciate suggestions. I have muscle...
  20. I have a plastic cutting board for gluten items, and one for others. It is not a bad idea to have seperate strainers, and toaster too. I stay away from wooden spoons, difficult to get really clean. If things are scratched gluten can hide in the grooves. Watch the pans for scratches. The smoother the surface the easier to be sure things are clean...
  21. Relax. Mom and I (both celiac) did great. I was surprised that I always found great veggies (steamed) at all of the resturants. I'm vegetarian and celiac and had no trouble. I found some great Thia Food, better than I ever have found in the US. The fresh markets are wonderful too. You can get info on what you can bring through customs on-line. It...
  22. /www.csaceliacs.org Has a list of upcoming events
  23. Some folks feel better right away. Some find that they have other problems too. I waited 2 years before I looked into related problems. It took me 7 years to find a good doctor. I thought I'd never be better. Wrong. Everyday in every way things are getting better. My mom has had celiac 50 years. Very few problems. I think it depends on the damage...
  24. I am from WI. All of the suggestions so far are great. I do a lot of ordering on line. Amy's Foods is carried in many stores. Their website makes shopping easier by sorting out the products for you. Given this is a kid, Amy's gluten-free mac & cheese is good. IGA carries some things, so does Woodmans. FYI- Hershey Kisses, milk chocolate bars, jolly...
  25. I read your post. Poor kid. Sounds like you at least provide an idea.
