ARCHIVED Sugar
tummytroubles replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have terrible problems when I injest sugar. Some digestive problems, but mainly problems with my moods and emotions. I actually have these problems when I take in too much of anything sweet. I avoid honey, cane sugar, maple syrup, fruit juices, or any other concentrated form of sugar. I feel so much better both physically and emotionally when I eat... -
ARCHIVED Can You Have Goats Milk?
tummytroubles replied to rutland's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I react pretty strongly to both cow's milk and goat milk. But I have strong reactions to lots of foods, so I'm fairly sensitive. -
ARCHIVED All Grains A Problem For Any?
tummytroubles replied to oceangirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Right now the only grain I can eat is non-starchy rice. I'm still having some stomach pain and other problems, so I'm still in the process of eliminating items. The rice may end up being the culprit. Although it could be eggs or potatoes. I've already eliminated so many things, but the list of foods that I can eat just keeps getting smaller and smaller... -
ARCHIVED A Question For Those Of You With Dairy/lactose Intolerance
tummytroubles replied to WakeupNurse's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
When I first took dairy out of my diet, I could still eat a little of it with lactase pills and be okay for the most part. I would only do this if I had to eat out for any reason. Instead of dairy, I used soy cheese which has casein in it. I was okay with that at first. However, when I started eliminating other foods that caused me problems, I found that... -
ARCHIVED Xanthum Gum
tummytroubles replied to darlindeb25's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for the info, although it's pretty disturbing to me. I seem to have problems with both corn and xanthan gum. I'm finding more and more that any type of non-natural and refined items cause me lots of digestive problems. -
ARCHIVED Could It Be celiac disease And Not Ms?
tummytroubles replied to nama shivaya's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was diagnosed with MS via MRI when symptoms first popped up in 1993. I never did have a spinal tap. Thankfully, my MS seems to be a benign form right now with only mild symptoms. My question is whether or not I should maybe be tested for Lyme's disease. My main health problems right now are mainly digestive, even after going off of gluten, corn, dairy... -
ARCHIVED Monosodium Glutamate And Celiac Disease
tummytroubles replied to NEURO's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
All I know is that I very much react to MSG. It actually gives me symptoms similar to a mild multiple sclerosis flare up. I don't know if I react because it is related to the whole gluten intolerance thing, or if it because of my MS though. -
ARCHIVED Organic Foods Threatened
tummytroubles replied to ginghamkim's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just saw the movie a couple of nights ago with my husband. Our local library had it. I'm definitely going to get more involved, as well as tell everyone I know. It's so frustrating that genetically modified food doesn't have to be labelled, and that through no fault of their own, organic farmer's crops are getting cross pollenated by this stuff. Who... -
ARCHIVED Question About Soy
tummytroubles replied to DElizabethE's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I'm not sure what parts of soy are "bad", but I generally avoid all soy. I have advanced endometriosis, and the phytoestrogens in soy potentially mess with my hormones and cause problems. One thing to think about is that if you are buying non organic soy products, there is a potential that they have genetically modified soy in them. I'm beginning to... -
ARCHIVED More Support Groups In S. California?
tummytroubles replied to gayle's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My husband and I go to Outback a lot and are very pleased with the quality of food they serve. They seem to be knowledgeable and detailed in making sure that they food we get is free of gluten. The same thing with PF Chang's. We haven't yet been to Ruth's Chris since it's more expensive than Outback :-) I was diagnosed back in 1993 via MRI. I had an... -
ARCHIVED Question About The "other" Allergies Shown By Enterolab
tummytroubles replied to Gentleheart's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You bring up a really good topic. I've never thought about some of these intolerances to other foods as being similar to gluten intolerance based on proteins. Unfortunately I haven't seen anything about it in all my reading on the Internet. I've heard a lot about "leaky gut" and that if you heal that, you may be able to reintroduce some of the foods back... -
Thanks for all of the information. Its pretty scary! I'm definitely going to be more careful when selecting prepackaged food labeled "healthy".

ARCHIVED How Important Are Probiotics And Digestive Enzymes?
tummytroubles replied to Aerin328's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've had trouble in the past with digestive enzymes. I rarely take them now. I have found that when I start to have small intestine pain, I go back to a very basic, easy to digest diet of fruits, veggies, lean meat, fish, & eggs, and brown rice/brown rice flour (not the starchy sweet brown rice). I make sure not to eat any preservatives or additives... -
ARCHIVED Going Back To Gluten?
tummytroubles replied to seattlecdfriend's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
For a person with celiac, no gluten should be consumed because even tiny amounts cause problems. However, for a person with gluten intolerance and NOT celiac, I have heard of people that are able to get their digestive systems healed up enough to eventually have small amounts of the foods that they used to be intolerant to. This may include gluten.... -
ARCHIVED Food Coloring In Frozen Salmon
tummytroubles replied to Yenni's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
From my understanding, wild caught salmon should not contain red coloring. They only add this to farmed salmon since the flesh of farmed salmon doesn't get red like wild salmon. It has to do with what they eat. Evidently, people wouldn't buy the farmed salmon when it wasn't pink in color (as told to me by someone in a local meat department). People proabably... -
ARCHIVED Soy Products
tummytroubles replied to connorsde's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I generally stay away from soy, but it is only because I seem to be sensitive to it. Tamari soy sauce is the kind that I have used in the past that doesn't contain wheat. However, you ALWAYS have to read the label to make sure. Also, the only chinese restaurant that I have been to that serves meals with gluten free tamari soy sauce is PF Chang's.... -
ARCHIVED More Support Groups In S. California?
tummytroubles replied to gayle's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I live in the Palm Springs area, and have been looking for a group as well. I tried to e-mail a number of people on that list and from a list another celiac website had for the San Bernadino/Redlands group, and no one has responded at all. Very disappointing. If anyone has current info on when and where this group meets (if still in existence), please... -
I get restless legs at night and on long car trips after eating sweet things. I have been off of sugar, gluten, dairy, and many other things for quite a while now. I had it worse when I was eating gluten though. I find that if I generally stay away from fruit and other sweet things at night, I do pretty well.

ARCHIVED Gluten Free, Still Lots Of Pain
tummytroubles replied to shopgrlstacy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The pain you describe is my worst symptom too. I've found that I'm intolerant to gluten, dairy, sugar, onions, garlic, MSG and pretty much all additives and preservatives, xanthan and guar gums, many spices, and a little bit to corn. I keep uncovering new intolerances like today I had a smoothie with coconut milk in it. I start to cough a lot of flem up... -
ARCHIVED Eating Gluten Free On A Small Budget
tummytroubles replied to SarahTorg's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
One of my friends always says, "Pay the grocer, or pay the doctor." I think that is really true for everyone since food makes such an impact on health and it helps to put things into perspective. -
ARCHIVED Suggestions Needed For Next Step...
tummytroubles replied to tummytroubles's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for your responses :-) I'm definitely going to stay on a gluten free diet. I wasn't convinced before that I might have to be concerned about small amounts of gluten. I thought it wouldn't make a big difference; especially since I may not even have celiac disease. For other intolerances I sometimes can have small amounts of the food without major... -
ARCHIVED Suggestions Needed For Next Step...
tummytroubles posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I've never posted anything to an online message board, so I hope I'm doing it correctly :-) I think that I may have a gluten intolerance of some sort, but I'm not sure if it is celiac or not. I'd love to find out if my symptoms are similar to what anyone else out there has had, and what suggestions anyone has as to what my next step should be. Should...
