  1. I went through security without being asked any questions. I did not have to use my doctor's note. I packed a small frozen blue ice mat, that I cut from a larger piece with my food. I carry my food in a soft sided lunch box. This lunch box is either in my briefcase or my backpack. I never send it thru by itself. I will however continue to carry empty...
  2. Below is the link to the list of restaurants at the Orlando Airport. Open Original Shared Link I saw Chili's too and Chick-fil-a on the list. Airport restaurants do not always have the full menu that is offered outside the airport.
  3. Lisa, Hope all goes well. I was undiagnosed most of my Junior year of college. I was able to incomplete one of my classes because I was sick and make the work up later.
  4. I agree with Mango04. Follow her guidence and you will be fine. I always travel with my own food and try to rent someplace with a kitchen. If I am flying I track down stores that sell Gluten Free food before I leave on the internet.
  5. I am on a business trip to the St. Louis area. There are plans for Thurs. Feb 1 to eat dinner at El Maguey Mexican Restaurant 1151 S. Duchense Dr St. Charles, MO. Any information would be helpful. I will be calling the tomorrow. I was not able to locate a website.
  6. Shirley (Viola1) Below is the website for Mission Foods. There is a link to a store locator on the site. I don't have any trouble finding them in Southern California. This company is based in Texas. Open Original Shared Link Hope you find them.
  7. Below is the link to information regarding school lunches from the USDA Nutrition Assistance Programs website. There is a section on providing meals for special dietary needs. Open Original Shared Link I use tomato sauce and browned hamburger to strech the budget. Brown hamburger with dried onion, salt, pepper and garlic powder. Add tomato sauce...
  8. There are times when a parent needs to step in and be a child's avocate. You will have to decide for yourself if this is one of them. My son has Aspergers (a form of autism) and when he was in elementary school I had to step in an be his avocate on a regular basis. I was a squeeky wheel again and again and again. You could call or e-mail to the teacher...
  9. kschell, Will you have access to keep food cold, like a refrigerator or a cooler (ice replenished each day)? Are there limitations on how much you can bring to camp? Will you have access to a microwave?
  10. I was diagnosed in the spring of 1978 at 20.75 years. Yep, that's almost 29 years.
  11. I agree with Tarnalberry. I have disassociated socializing with food. I make the necessary arrangements so I have something to eat. If it's a pizza party I will bring my own gluten free pizza. I have come across my share of people who are insistent that I gluten containing food. If after two polite "No, thank you's" and a brief explanation that...

    ARCHIVED Scary Doctor

Gloria, One additional step ,you may want to take, is to consult a nutritionist to confirm that the gluten fee diet your daughter has been eating is providing the proper amount of calories and nutrition. This would be additional support for that you are taking care of your daughter. This would prevent a judge from assuming (inaccurately) that a gluten...
  13. I agree with Cassidy. I couldn't tolerate 50mg of gluten especially since in the study it was given daily. I have found over the years that one mistake makes me a mildly ill but mistakes several days in a row and I will be very ill. I am talking about amounts from cross contamination which would be less than 50mg.
  14. This is from the TSA press release on Aug. 10. It explains why gels and liquids are forbidden through Airport Security. British authorities have arrested 21 individuals who are now in custody who are alleged to have engaged in a plot to detonate liquid explosives on board multiple commercial aircraft departing from the United Kingdom and bound for the...
  15. happygirl, Thank you for sharing your story about ignorant docs. Those of us who have not had this experience will not be suprised if it happens to us in the future. It's a shame that they are out there and I am sorry you had to deal with them.

    ARCHIVED Houston

Have you tried looking for restuarants in Dallas? I live 60 miles north of San Diego. The San Diego local Celiac site is great. Although they do not list addresses in my area, many of the same chains are in both places. Just a thought.
  17. Angie, I am glad you have a sensible doctor. FYI, I have a diagnosis on Celiac only based on an Upper GI and response to the diet. Today, there is a lot more testing available than there was 28 years ago. I have never been asked to "prove" that I have Celiac, although I don't doubt this happens. I, personally, would run, not walk,...
  18. When my son, who is now 18, was a baby we consulted the Pedicatric GI who I located through the local Celiac Support Group. My son was introduced to solid food at about four or five months, but gluten containing food was not introduced until sometime his after his first birthday. I do not remember exactly when.
  19. I hope you are feeling better. I use the mircowave at work. I make sure the food is on or in a plate, bowl or container that will not soak through and I put a paper towel under the food container. I also always cover my food with either a lid or a paper towel. Solo makes plastic bowls that interlock so one can be used as lid. I find them with the paper...
  20. I am going to assume the school has a nurse's office. Complete whatever forms the school requires so they can give your daughter the "pink stuff" that you provide at school. You should also give instructions on how long to wait until they call you. In our school district the doctor has to complete an offical school form and the parents have to complete...
  21. for JDinAUS Below is the link to the restuarants at DFW. Wendy's (gate C14) and Chili's (gate C16) have gluten free menus at the restuarants outside the airport. Most airport food outlets do not have a full menu inside the airport. You will have to check. Open Original Shared Link Below is the link to the resturants at LAX. Please note that...
  22. I still need to check with Lambert Airport in St. Louis. John Wayne is a small airport with only 14 gates. I made this trip 9 times (most before liquid restrictions) last year and expect 10 to 15 times this year. FYI, DFW (Dallas Fortworth) has a Wendy's at gate C14 and a Chili's too at gate C16. Lambert, St. Louis also has a Chili's too. I am...
  23. I spoke with a supervisor at TSA (Transportation Security Authority) at John Wayne Airport in Orange County, CA. He said as long as I have a letter from my doctor I can take blue ice and unallowed food through security. He did request that I keep the unallowed items to a minimum. He did ask that I not bring yogurt if possible. Premade Peanut Butter and...
  24. A visit to the doctor may be in order. This may not be related to celiac at all. I was diagnosed 28 years ago at the age of 21 and I have had my share of illnesses and aches and pains completely unrelated to celiac. I hope you feel better soon.
  25. I live about 40 miles south of LA in Orange County. There are lots of Wendy's in the LA/Orange County area. Outback also has a good number of resturants in the area. There are some Chick-fil-a's and Pei Wei's. Please be aware LA/Orange County is a big place with lots of traffic, the heavist being Mon - Fri in the morning and evening. If someone from...
