  1. Thanks! I will try that. I was using rice milk to make the mushroom stuff but it just didn't have the right thickness to it.
  2. Never heard of Better Than Milk. But I just looked it up and it's soy which we can't have. I can't see how I could get a white sauce without some kind of milk in it. I suppose I could use broth sometimes, but that wouldn't necessarily give me the right flavor. But thanks!
  3. Okay, now I found it. But it calls for dry milk powder and we can't have that. The only faux milk powder I can find is the Vance's Dari free and IMO it is horrible in savory dishes. Far too sweet. I don't even use it any more because I quit baking sweets. They never came out very well.
  4. I have only used it a few times in raw food recipes. And I use a lot less than is called for. If the recipe says 1/2 a cup, I use like 2 squirts. I do not like overly sweet food though and rarely make any sweets. I know I used it in raw Tootsie Rolls, some nut cookies and perhaps one other thing.
  5. I don't usually go to the Asian market but I don't have to because we have Central Market and it has a big Asian section. I have bought sweet rice flour (it was a lot cheaper than in the baking aisle) and some sort of rice wrappers that I have never used for anything. Another thing I bought was Papadums in the Indian food aisle. Daughter loves them but...
  6. My husband loves simple beef roast with potatoes and carrots. If it is still hot where you are at, you can do this in the crockpot. Most men love steak, baked potatoes and salad. But steak can be tricky if you don't know how he likes his. One thing my husband likes on hot days is a big spinach salad topped with plenty of hard cooked eggs and bacon...
  7. I never tried them because they all seem to contain almonds. I bought one for my daughter. I think it had cashews and chocolate. She didn't like it at all.
  8. My daughter has this problem. She does not have celiac, but an allergy. Alas, she is gaining weight. Mainly I try to get her to drink more water and to eat fruits and vegetables between meals if she is hungry. Popcorn also makes a filling snack that is low in calories.
  9. I am not looking for soup recipes per se. I can easily make soup in a crockpot. That doesn't require a recipe for me. The problem is, I keep running across a lot of casserole type recipes that look good, but require a can or more of condensed soup as the sauce. And we are allergic to all of the condensed soups. One recipe said you could use a homemade...
  10. I looked but didn't see the recipe. She does use dairy though and we can't have that.
  11. Tonight I made uncured beef hotdogs and Bush's baked beans. Pasta with meat sauce is another quick meal. Ian's fish sticks or chicken nuggets with some microwaveable potato wedges from Costco.
  12. I don't know that I would like turkey though. My few experiences with ground turkey were awful.
  13. Thanks! I bought coconut milk and couldn't remember what I bought it for.
  14. I just found that recipe, or a similar one. Am wondering about the meatballs as it says just ground beef and seasoning. Is it possible to make meatballs with no filler or egg? Would be great if so. I don't think I would ever make that recipe for me with the jelly because I'm diabetic. Probably waaaay more carbs than I need. But maybe with tomato sauce...
  15. I am looking for crockpot recipes because daughter will be having back to back dance classes right after school. On those days I need something for the crockpot. So many of the recipes I see call for condensed soup. Alas, given our various allergies, there are no cream soups I can use. I have come up with a mushroom thing I can use in casseroles, but...
  16. I don't have problems with gluten, but I do have problems with dairy. I get sinus problems with it. It's possible that you could have an allergy or intolerance to that since it is in a lot of bread and crackers.
  17. Cool! I didn't know they had that. And it's cheap too!
  18. Sour cream can contain gluten. And if you are allergic to milk...then why are you having milk and sour cream? You need to avoid ALL dairy.
  19. We do not eat anything with high fructose corn syrup in it in this house. I can't have almonds and daughter can't have peanuts. We can both eat the Goraw pumpkin seed bars. They are sweetened with dates and agave nectar. They also make some other bars that are nut free. We just happen to like that one the best. My health food store is loaded with...
  20. Daughter loves the apple fries, which are not fried, but are shaped like fries. They come pre-packaged. The sauce contains dairy so no good if you can't eat that, but again it's pre-packaged. We just get plain hamburger buns, garden salad with no dressing, fries and the apples.
  21. I don't keep a lot of made up stuff in my freezer, but a couple of things I do are taco meat for salads and chicken breasts cooked with just a little salt and pepper or Herbamare.
  22. Any of the foods from Goraw. I think Enjoy Life foods also fit in there. Tings. Amy's Organic Pasta sauce. Probably most of the things I buy at the health food store.
  23. Trix is currently safe but you always have to check the label.
  24. Trix is currently safe but you always have to check the label.
  25. Have you tried the Enjoy Life chocolate? It's dairy and soy free.
