  1. I've gotten an off brand of corn flakes that has no malt in it. Sorry, can't remember the brand. Got it at Big Lots.
  2. It depends on the laws in your area. Here in WA it's a health code violation to bring in your own food. I do know of some restaurants that will allow it if you call ahead of time. Most won't though and many have it posted on their front doors.
  3. We had lunch there today. Actually it was "dinner" since they don't serve "lunch" on the weekends. My dad went there prior and asked about the gluten free pasta. He was told it was cooked in the microwave. Weird! Daughter had the marinara sauce. I had the meat sauce. She felt she didn't get enough food and I got too much. I gave her some of mine...
  4. Not simple and I won't eat them. I don't have gluten issues but am allergic to milk. Daughter is allergic to milk and gluten. So we won't eat them.
  5. I get them at my health food store and I think they are $8.97 per bag. I've seen them at grocery stores but I didn't check the price. Even though my health food store is small, they usually give me better prices than other stores. And even if their price is a bit higher I will still buy from them because they have gone out of their way for me to get products...
  6. I did not mean to imply that they do not take this seriously. In my mind if they are going to offer a gluten free pasta then they would of course take steps to KEEP it gluten free. It was my dad who told me they would just throw it in the same pot as the other pasta. I presume that his recent interest in watching cookiing shows would lead him to say this...
  7. Not all locations have it. Here's a link for the lunch menu at my location: Open Original Shared Link Near the top at the right hand side, it says "Pasta-bilities" and then says you can have whole wheat or gluten free pasta.
  8. Foccacia is one of the first gluten free breads I tried that actually came out right. I actually used this to make pizza. At first I formed it into a rectangle and added toppings. Then I discovered that I could merely form the dough into rounds by dousing balls of dough with a bit of olive oil then spreading out with a rubber scraper. Due to additonal...
  9. My mom, daughter and I all went to an ND for a RAST test. We all have multiple food allergies and when you have this situation an elimination type of diet is not the most effective thing. I'm allergic to dairy, eggs and almonds. I had surmised about the eggs on my own and was pretty sure about the dairy but I never would have guessed almonds.
  10. I just bought this book and some of the flour. Most if not all of the recipes do call for eggs and many of the baked good call for a lot of eggs. The book said this is necessary to get the baked goods to rise from the lack of gluten. And it said you can not just swap this for wheat or rice flour one on one. You have to make other adjustments. The coconut...
  11. Thanks! Perhaps I should call mine before we go there just to make sure they have it. My mom had wanted me to call because she felt that I could not trust what it said on their website. I just hate calling and sounding like an idiot. Or worse yet calling and getting an idiot on the other end of the line who has not a clue what I am talking about.
  12. I've had my bread maker for a little over a year now. It's sitting in the garage at the moment because I've yet to find anything that comes out well every time. Quite often the bread does come out too dense or still raw in the middle. One thing I was told was not to use the regular rise because it will punch down the dough and let it rise again. You have...
  13. Thanks! Now I can use that Garfava flour that I bought and didn't know what to do with. I just hope it comes out well without the eggs and milk. I usually sub in flax meal for eggs but since it already contains flax that might be overkill. Will try it with the Ener-G egg replacer.
  14. Big salads make a nice vegetarian meal. I don't eat dressing nor does my daughter so I don't know which ones are gluten free. Another thing we often have is hummus served with raw veggies. Daughter uses gluten free crackers, breadsticks, pretzels, etc. to dip in it.
  15. Yes, but do any of these mixes list using orange juice as the liquid? That is really the only one I am after. I've tried all the others. No complaints really but the one with the orange juice was the best. I just can't remember what brand it was.
  16. Now granted this wouldn't be my first choice for dining, gluten or not. But due to our food allergies my daughter and I are getting tired of eating at the same few places. So I was quite interested when I learned that The Old Spaghetti Factory now has the gluten free pasta at the location near us. When I told my parents (they prefer to dine out) that...
  17. It depends on the product. If I can get a similar product that I know is gluten free then I won't buy it. I should say that I am not the one with the gluten problem, but my daughter. I do buy her some rice cereal bars that are produced with things she is allergic to because they come in handy when she is running late (that's usually) and needs a quick...
  18. Both are laxatives. I can't tolerate either one and they have a strange mouthfeel anyway.
  19. I lived on Cape Cod for a few years and seafood is really big there, much of it breaded and fried. They're big on fried food. We often dined in Pub type places where my husband felt most comfortable. There I would usually order nachos as a meal. Mexican food is not common there and their version of nachos is different than any other place I've seen. ...
  20. Interesting about the Dasani. I've never been able to finish a bottle of it. Just doesn't taste right to me and I don't feel well when I drink it. AFAIK I can tolerate gluten but I have other food allergies.
  21. I buy some and I make some but mostly we just don't do bread. My daughter is the only one who eats gluten free bread. Technically I "could" eat it but I have diabetes and I find it just has too many carbs for me. So if I make a loaf and wonder of wonders it actually turns out (most do not), she'll eat it for a day or two and I throw the rest away. I find...
  22. I did try that and wasn't impressed. The problem is she has additional allergies so if you need to add eggs or milk to the mix the subs don't work very well. The one with the orange juice was really good both in flavor and in texture. And it isn't really "fluffy" that I am looking for. Although I haven't eaten a regular pancake in years the ones I'm thinking...
  23. My daughter has additional allergies so that brand is out I think because some of what they make has soy in it. I also don't like having to buy club soda, but thanks.
  24. Hummus cups are good. Simply cut cucumbers into thick slices, then hollow almost all the way out to make a cup using a melon baller. Fill with hummus. BLTs are good too. I don't have the exact recipe for this. I've seen it many places but I just do it to taste. Get some cherry tomatoes. Wash them and cut off the tops then using a tiny spoon or melon...
