ARCHIVED Knowfat! Cafe (boston Area)
Juliebove replied to runnerjen's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
The corn thing is danged annoying. The Dr. who diagnosed my daughter told me ALL grains have gluten in them. Just varying amounts. Said even corn and rice contained gluten and I needed worry about them. Even said I should just "let her be a kid" every once in a while and let her eat what she wanted. I had to reel in my hand for wanting to slap him him... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Vegan Chef
Juliebove replied to FaithInScienceToo's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
The Sunspire brand says: "Ingredients Whole grain malted barley and corn, unsweetened chocolate, cocoa butter, soy lecithin (a non-GMO emulsifier), and pure natural vanilla. Made in a facility that uses dairy, peanuts, sesame, soy and tree nuts. Incidental milk may be present. Not guaranteed gluten-free. Well, I can pretty well guarantee that they... -

How could there not be? My daughter got sick from Mentos, although what she has is an allergy and not celiac. Hmmm... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Vegan Chef
Juliebove replied to FaithInScienceToo's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I notice that she uses grain sweetened chocolate chips. I presumed these would not be gluten free. Does anyone know? -
ARCHIVED Starting Daughter On A Gluten-free Diet Today....
Juliebove replied to wolfie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter is now 8 going on 9 and some of the things she'll eat now are not things she would have eaten a few years ago. Like fruit leather! She loved Envirokid's cereal bars. Too bad they now have soybean oil in them. She also has a soy allergy. She can eat some of their cereals though. Also allergic to milk and peanuts so some are out. One... -
ARCHIVED Finger Foods?
Juliebove replied to 2boysmama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
There are various gluten free cereals that might work for him. I've gotten some that are shaped like Cheerios. They're made by Glutino. Glutino also makes some breadsticks that could work, provided he is watched while eating them so he doesn't choke on them. I've also gotten some small round rice crackers that might work. In some stores they are located... -
ARCHIVED My Son Throws Up Rice Flour, Could This Be Celiac Disease?
Juliebove replied to melf's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter used to throw up all the time! Turns out she is allergic to wheat, gluten, soy, dairy, eggs, peanuts and bananas. I was breast feeding her but not producing enough milk so no matter what formula I made for her, she was allergic to it. Question about the cereal though. Were you making it with forumula or breast milk? Or did it come prepared... -
ARCHIVED School Problems Again
Juliebove replied to mouth's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That's a tough one. You could send some food with her for two days although I'm sure it won't necessarily be what she wants to eat. I keep 2 slice packs of Ener-G bread onhand. I buy them straight from Ener-G. Not sure if those are available anywhere else. I also keep single serve packages of whatever I can find that my daughter isn't allergic to. Alas... -
ARCHIVED Chronic Ear Infections?
Juliebove replied to sarahelizabeth's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter and I found our ear infections were linked to dairy allergies. No more dairy, and no more infections for me. She has had one infection in 3 years. She used to have them almost all the time. -
ARCHIVED Frustrated About What To Eat.
Juliebove replied to rutland's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Lundbergs and WestSoy are the two we buy most often. I've seen some store brands out there that are fine too. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free, Soy Free Cocoa Powder
Juliebove replied to zkat's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Plain cocoa powder should be gluten and soy free. You can also get unsweetened "raw" cocoa nibs or beans from the health food store that are gluten and soy free. If you have a Magic Bullet, you can grind these into your own powder. Enjoy Life makes chocolate chips that are both gluten and soy free. They're very good. You can melt them down and make... -
ARCHIVED Strange Disorder Has Scientists, Beekeepers Puzzled
Juliebove replied to larry mac's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Wow! I'd heard of the bees dying but I wasn't aware they were being fed HFCS. I think that stuff is bad! I didn't used to allow my daughter to have it at all, ever. But then after developing 7 different food allergies, I relaxed my standards a bit and occasionally allowed her to have things with it in there. Her foods were so restricted and it was hard... -
ARCHIVED Just When I Thought I'd Figured It All Out
Juliebove replied to hathor's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have seen date bits that are dusted with oats. But the oats are clearly listed. -
ARCHIVED Help Needed For Newbie
Juliebove replied to kdean823's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
When I was starting out, I bought every kind of flour I saw listed in a recipe. Well, most of that flour just sat there and was never used. I found most of my attempts at gluten free baking didn't come out very well. My daughter is also allergic to dairy and eggs so that could be one reason why. I had to make substitutions that didn't necessarily work... -
My daughter is allergic to soy but can have other beans and peas. Her friend can not have any kind of legume whatever.

ARCHIVED Coco Pebbles & Coco Dyno Bites
Juliebove replied to Jo.R's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I bought both Cocoa and Fruity Pebbles a couple of weeks ago and they were safe. Cocoa Puffs are not safe. -
ARCHIVED Prechopped Fruit Safe?
Juliebove replied to ReneCox's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That's not necessarily going to remove all of the gluten. I say this after making my daughter sick from a hamburger patty that I rinsed off and reheated after it had been put on a bun. I got it to go and didn't realize it was on a bun until we got home. This was back when she was first diagnosed. Oh boy did she get sick! -
ARCHIVED Oddest Places That Have Gluten
Juliebove replied to confused's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Mentos Some sorbets. I can't remember the brand but it contains glucose syrup derived from wheat. Things at some fast food places such as tortilla strips and chicken breast. -
ARCHIVED Oddest Places That Have Gluten
Juliebove replied to confused's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This has always bothered me. How could the frozen stuff NOT have gluten? It would seem they would use the same "milk" and turn it into the frozen stuff. I don't let my daughter have it because I think it is suspect. -
ARCHIVED Tvp
Juliebove replied to tabdegner's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It is usually made of soy but can be made of other things. Why anyone would want to eat it is beyond me though. *Remembers not so fondly, the large bag of ham flavored TVP my dad bought when I was a kid* Blech! -
ARCHIVED Contaminated Rice Protein?
Juliebove replied to Laura's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The tainted rice protein was found in pet food. More recently, tainted corn gluten was found in pet food. AFAIK it has not been found in any food for human consumption. -
ARCHIVED Frustrated About What To Eat.
Juliebove replied to rutland's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
My daughter has all of those allergies and then some. For breakfast she usually has cereal, either with rice milk or more often plain. Sometimes I make pancakes from a gluten-free mix using a mix of ground flax and water for the eggs. Sometimes she has gluten-free toast with coconut oil on it, perhaps with some jam or jelly or a sprinkling of sugar... -
ARCHIVED Gastroparesis?
Juliebove replied to mellajane's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It is thought that I have gastroparesis based on my symptoms. They could not do the test for me because it involves eating eggs and I'm severely allergic. Supposedly the test can also be done with oatmeal but apparently the hospital I went to doesn't know how to do it. I do not have celiac but I do have food allergies and diabetes. As a child, I too was... -
ARCHIVED New Pet Food Alert! Gluten Free Dog And Cat Food
Juliebove replied to yokomindy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Aargh! When will it end. My friend lost her dog due to one of the gluten kinds. I don't know what to feed my cat any more. She went on a fast for a while, refusing to eat anything I gave her. She doesn't like having her food changed and what she had been eating was the recalled stuff (although not those dates, but I don't trust it now). I tried making...
