ARCHIVED Rast Allergy Testing ..anyone Done It? How Accurate Is It?
Juliebove replied to Judyin Philly's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Daughter and I both had the RAST test done. Seems to be accurate. We stopped eating the foods indicated as allergens and our chronic ear and sinus infections went away. -
ARCHIVED Quick Question About 2 Items
Juliebove replied to amberleigh's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I switched to powdered vanilla. I know it's gluten free and it's a lot easier to clean up if it spills. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Allergy
Juliebove replied to dadoffiveboys's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter is allergic to wheat, gluten, soy, peanuts, eggs, dairy and bananas. We didn't find this out until she was 6. As a baby, she would not gain enough weight. Never quite small enough to be considered "failure to thrive", but close to it. She seemed to do a little better when I began to introduce solid foods, although she was constantly... -
ARCHIVED Buffalo Milk Mozzarella
Juliebove replied to hathor's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Daughter and I can't eat any form of milk products that come from an animal. -
I too have gotten the lights mixed up.

I have all of those things. But sometimes I can't think straight either. I have run a red light then when I realized what I did, I sped up instead of stopping.

ARCHIVED Help! I Have An Allergy To Molds
Juliebove replied to a topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I am very allergic to mold. I wasn't aware that there was a connection with citrus fruits. I can eat lemon, lime and grapefruit with no problem. Can have an orange mixed into something, like nut cheese. But to bite into a plain orange gives me blisters on my mouth. I know I'm not allergic. I've been tested. I haven't had my house tested and I have... -
My daughter has additional food allergies besides just wheat/gluten. So I wind up placing rather large food orders several times a year because I can't get all that she wants in a standard store. Some of these places send free items with your order. One place used to let you choose your free items but I think they no longer offer the freebies and instead...

I've made some using rice milk. It wasn't Jell-O but an organic brand. I used less milk than they called for and cooked it a little longer. Daughter liked it but I thought it was a bit runny.

ARCHIVED Hillshire Farms Oven Rosted Turkey Deli Meat?
Juliebove replied to janelyb's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Soy sauce usually contains wheat. That's why you can't have it. There is one brand (maybe more) that doesn't contain wheat. I can't give the particulars because daughter has a soy allergy so we don't eat it. -
ARCHIVED Recently Found Out Had Soy And Egg Allergies
Juliebove replied to Clarise49's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I know how difficult food allergies can be. I am allergic to dairy, eggs and almonds. Daughter is allergic to dairy, eggs, wheat, gluten, peanuts, soy and bananas. Soy is in everything! All the mayo I've found has either soy or eggs in it. Makes it hard to do a good tuna salad. I found a mayo substitute that my daughter likes but it seems odd to... -
ARCHIVED Thinking Of Starting A gluten-free Bakery Business
Juliebove replied to anerissara's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
One suggestion I have is to try to have at least some things that are made without soy, eggs or dairy. A lot of people with allergies to wheat or gluten are also allergic to these things. There is one vegan bakery here where I can get such things, but they are not nearby. Can get some of their things at a local grocery store though. It's frustrating... -
ARCHIVED Raw Vegan Food, Is It Safe?
Juliebove replied to tuxedocat's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I have tried a raw vegan diet and it's not necessarily gluten free. Nama Shoyu is sometimes used. That's a raw soy sauce and it has wheat in it. Some recipes have sprouted wheat berries or barley. There's a raw vegan restaurant in Seattle and only a few of the dishes are gluten free. Be sure to mention the gluten problem before ordering. -
Really good on enchiladas, or mix it with some refried beans for dip.

ARCHIVED Natural Flavoring?
Juliebove replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Could be pretty much anything. But I would think it would say "contains soy" if it does. That's if it's in this country. -
ARCHIVED Oats And Oat Flour
Juliebove replied to Misaram5's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You can buy gluten free oats. They're not cheap though. And they may or may not work for you. Daughter is not celiac but has a gluten allergy. She can eat them. -
ARCHIVED Always Gluten-free Eating Out?
Juliebove replied to 7-cody's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I've found that chicken isn't always a good thing. Of course we do have additional food allergies, but unless the restaurant cooks from scratch, the chicken may have stuff added to it that you don't want. Burger patties are usually a better bet, and most places have them. I know of one place that does pork chops from scratch. I like to dine there because... -
I haven't baked with it but I used it in meatballs and they were wonderful! The reason I haven't baked with it is, my daughter and I have an egg allergy and it seems that most of the recipes for baking call for a ton of eggs. Yes, I know meatballs have eggs too. I subbed in flax meal. That works in some baked things but not necessarily all of them.

Knickknick makes gluten-free graham cracker crumbs. They smell just like the real thing. I used them to make Nanaimo bars.

ARCHIVED Ideas For An 11 Year Old
Juliebove replied to confusedks's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
We did the mani/pedi party two years ago. I took the girls out to lunch and to the salon. They loved it! Last year she had a hip hop dance party at a local studio, but not the one she normally goes to. They just started doing parties. I think hers will be the first. This year it will be a jazz party. The kids love to dance! I'm not serving cake... -
ARCHIVED Daughter Will Not Eat
Juliebove replied to kbdy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think that sort of behavior is pretty typical of young kids. My daughter never really went through it. With her, it's difficult to get her to *stop* eating. But I can recall most of her friends going through a period of time when they didn't want to eat at all. Or would only eat one or two foods. What some of the parents did was make the kids sit... -
Could you grow any of your own food? I use Earthboxes and am growing tomatoes, lettuce, onions, herbs and some other things. We also have strawberries, apples and pears. I've been able to can some of the apples and pears, but the trees aren't doing so well this year. In the winter months, I make my own sprouts. That helps some. I also get weekly...

ARCHIVED Did I Gluten My Hubby?
Juliebove replied to Belinda Meeker's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Another thought... Have you cooked any regular pasta in your pot? Used your colander for regular pasta? If so, there might be gluten in there. Not sure about the sauce. "Natural flavors" could mean anything. I usually use organic sauce or make my own because it is easy to make. We don't go the candy here because of so many food allergies... -
Nope. But daughter is allergic to soy and they put soy in everything.
