  1. I always add a bit of lemon juice to my sauce. That works for me!
  2. Could also be his age. I've been told by my daughter's dance teachers that age 8 is usually a big step in terms of muscle development and coordination.
  3. My daughter is allergic to wheat and gluten. You need to find out if there is a gluten allergy as well. Even if it's just wheat, you will need to read all ingredient labels and that includes cosmetics. Lots of shampoos use wheat in them.
  4. My daughter likes the Namaste pastas and also the Road's End Organics. You do need to check the box on the Road's End because they do sell different kinds.
  5. A kosher menu might be tough to do if you are not kosher yourself. Meat and cheese can not be served together nor stored together. So that might make it tough for a pizza place. Of course being honest with your customers is a must! We used to have a gluten free restaurant in this area that was not. The owner sold me a brownie for my daughter after...
  6. I used the coconut flour to make meatballs. Would probably work for meatloaf as well, but you'd have to make some adjustments for the lack of tomato sauce.
  7. Sounds like the box you saw was indeed gluten free. It is my understanding that they were, then they weren't now they are again. So depending on the age of the box you have, they might or might not be. I am in the habit of checking each box each time.
  8. I've seen dates coated with oat flour but they will say so. Does your health food store bag their own? If so they might have been contaminated from something else.
  9. I had it. Don't any more. Mine was related to food allergies. I've read it can be caused by dairy and indeed I had a dairy allergy. Daughter still has it. She too has a dairy allergy and a gluten allergy among other. I've been told by my naturopath that sea salt will make it go away. She sells bars of Himilayan sea salt. She said she used one on the...
  10. You do have to be careful with salads because they might put croutons on there then pick them off when they realize their mistake. Or croutons might fall into the bowl as has happened at one restaurant we dine at. My standard meal these days when dining out is a hamburger patty and plain baked potato. I am not celiac but I do have food allergies. Daughter...
  11. I tried this recipe tonight and it was yummy! The bread portion reminds me of cornbread and because of our food allergies to milk and eggs (among other things) we haven't been able to eat any that was good. The little breads would also be good with a soup. Open Original Shared Link
  12. Chreese will melt like cheese on pizza or in a sandwich, however I don't find it to taste like cheese. When I make the Mac and Chreese, I add cubes of ham to it. And I've put ham on grilled Chreese sandwiches. If you like mustard like my daughter does, it might work for you. Oddly, I love the Nacho Chreese. It does taste like cheese. Hmmm... Wonder...
  13. Be sure to read the ingredients on those cheeses if you have food allergies. Especially to dairy. Some of them do contain whey or casein. I tried an almond cheese that I liked but it turns out I am allergic to almonds. My daughter loves Chreese from Road's End Organics. I can not find the Chreese powder anywhere except directly from them though, so...
  14. Corn is a super tough one to avoid. It's everywhere in all kinds of foods. So you'll probably have to make a lot from scratch. As for the formula, I'd stop it. Daughter has allergies to both dairy and soy. There wasn't a single formula she could tolerate. At 13 months you could give her rice milk. Just don't buy the Rice Dream. It contains gluten...
  15. For sure call ahead of time and find out what they will be serving and if they can accommodate him. If it were me, I'd find a way to go and not let my husband handle things. But then I don't know how your husband is. Mine doesn't understand things like cross contamination or that there might be things that are not visible. He will see chicken and think...
  16. We went there for my nephew's birthday. I e-mailed them ahead of time and the chef from the location where we were going was supposed to get back to me. He never did. Daughter and I both have food allergies and she more than I. So I really needed to know. Turns out the only things they could guarantee safe for us were the salad, a burger patty with lettuce...
  17. Daughter is allergic to both peanuts and soy. Not sure which one causes a stronger reaction in her. She ate part of a cracker with soy in it and was doubled over in pain before she had even finished the cracker. So that was a pretty strong reaction. Normally soybean oil and peanut oil cause her to have nosebleeds. She seems to be able to handle soy lecithin...
  18. My daughter doesn't always seem to react to soybean oil or soy lecithin. But soy flour leaves her doubled over in pain and soon running for the toilet. If the soybean oil is not used for frying but merely added to the food, she'll get nosebleeds.
  19. I use sweet rice flour and it seems to work.
  20. They just had a gluten free fair last week. Alas, I had to miss it because daughter had a birthday party to go to.
  21. It would be worth making a trip to TruHealth in Bothell. Open Original Shared Link The owner has celiac and they now advertise, "Your Gluten Free Headquarters". They're a small store and don't have quite as much selection as Manna Mills does, but their prices are a lot better. They have a good assortment of Tinkyada pastas and the best prices I've...
  22. Hmmm... I just checked their website and it says nothing about allergens. I could have sworn that it used to and that I saw nothing there that was gluten-free. Our locatation doesn't have a salad bar so that's not an option here. But just in looking at the menu, I don't see much that looks safe.
  23. My daughter isn't celiac but has allergies to both wheat and gluten. She reacts very badly to anything with wheat of gluten used externally. I would also think if you had celiac it would be all too easy to use a moisturizer or shampoo then not get it fully rinsed from your hands. You cuold then transfer this to your mouth. I would avoid such things. ...
  24. Seventh Generation Maxi pads. Who woulda thunk it? I never would have known had I not been bored while in the bathroom and picked up the package to read it. The absorbant material is made of wheat! Must remember this as daughter has a wheat allergy.
  25. The ones I have that say gluten free are done by a dedicated grower who oversees all steps of production to make sure they are not cross contaminated. They are also tested and proven gluten free.
