  1. This sounds familiar. My daugther doesn't have celiac, but food allergies. She would often say she thought she was going to throw up so I wouldn't send her to school. She is very good at faking it and I can never tell if she is really sick or not. And she would usually pull this on a day when I was not feeling well so I'd keep her home rather than risk...
  2. Hormel doesn't have oatmeal in it. I have some right here. It's the plain chili with beans. Now I can't speak for the other varieties. But I think they are all gluten free as well. The ingredients of this are: Water, beef, beans, tomatoes (water tomato paste), corn flour, salt, flavoring, chili powder (chili peppers, flavoring), sugar, modified food...
  3. Our diet is more limited, given our food allergies. But we like the Orgran pasta that comes in a can. Not for every day. It's rather expensive. But it makes a good quick meal. Daughter also likes most of the Enjoy Life products.
  4. When I was diagnosed, I was vegetarian. I ate some, but not much cheese and eggs. But my main foods were beans and rice, pasta and rice, and assorted salads. Now that I know of my allergy to eggs and cheese, my diet is often vegan, at least at home. I tried going raw vegan, but due to other health problems, I don't digest raw fruits and veggies very well...
  5. I have also seen some that contain broth and that can contain wheat.
  6. I hate packages mixes. Why pay all that money when you can easily do it yourself? I usually just use chili powder for seasoning but sometimes will add salsa, peppers, onions, or whatever else I have around. Ketchup is also vital. I couldn't figure out why mine didn't taste the same as it does in restaurants and then I found a recipe for meat for taco...
  7. We had the ginger and the double chocolate brownie cookies at my daughter's birthday party instead of cake. Everyone loved them. Daughter doesn't care much for the granola, trail mix or no oats oatmeal cookies, but she likes all the other things.
  8. I do make my own salsa much of the time. Daughter is just overly fond of that brand name for some reason and has been begging for their stuff. We bought some of the salsa when it was on sale and I used the last of it tonight. She seems okay after eating it.
  9. I don't have an actual recipe but when my daughter was first diagnosed, I bought a box of Rice Polish. I believe it was Ener-G brand. After buying a bunch of cookbooks, I realized I had no clue what to do with the stuff. So I looked on the box and followed the recipe for cookies on there. I rolled them in cinnamon and sugar and they tasted just like the...
  10. Could it be something external? Play Doh? Shampoo? Soap? Or could he be eating something at a friend or neighbor's house?
  11. Daughter is allergic to wheat, gluten, soy, dairy, eggs, bananas and peanuts. Her breakfasts are cereal with rice milk, muffins or pancakes made with ground flax instead of eggs and rice milk or juice if the recipe calls for milk. If she's in a hurry she will have an Enjoy Life bar or similar. Sometimes she will have potatoes in some form and occasionally...
  12. I wonder if the salsa is safe? It's the only Tostitos thing we buy since we have dairy and soy allergies and their other products contain those things.
  13. Well, I'm diabetic so I have to watch my carbs.
  14. Daughter and I are allergic to eggs too. We find coconut oil is good on bread and toast. Not exactly the same as mayo but works for most things. We've been buying falafel patties at our local Central Market. Nothing in them that we're allergic to. We also buy tomato slices and make sandwiches using the tomatoes on the outside and the falafel on the...
  15. Mexican is another option, but not Taco Bell or Qboba. Here we have Taco Time. They make their food from scratch and there are some safe options for us there. I can't comment specifically for you because we have additional food allergies. Taco Del Mar also has a gluten free menu.
  16. Sounds like she needs an allergy test to see what all she is allergic to. I have food allergies but mine are not the life threatening kind. I still have issues with food. If in doubt, I don't eat it. I am not wasting away though. Still overweight. I buy a lot of my food at the local health food store where the owner is a celiac. For a while...
  17. Also, there is a cross contamination issue with anything that is fried.
  18. Tonight, my husgand blew up at my daughter and I. We went out to eat. Our meals came with biscuits and hers came with coleslaw. I asked for those to be left off. We are both allergic to milk and eggs and there is one or the other in most coleslaw. I know there is in theirs. In the past, he has insisted that we take the bread/roll/biscuit/muffin...
  19. Sounds good but I can't imagine serving it with spuds and peas. It's pretty much all carbs already.
  20. My daughter isn't celiac but has allergies to wheat, gluten and other foods. I don't know if a 504 would apply to her or not. What I do at the beginning of the year is type something up stating her allergies and spell out that not only can she not eat these things, but can not come in contact with them. She doesn't have life threatening allergies, but...
  21. I tried to read through that junk and had to skim it. Airheads indeed! And odd they should mention cilantro. A waitress at a restaurant where I used to dine has a life threatening allergy to it. Alas, we can't eat there any more now that they changed the menu.
  22. The beef flavoring is nothing new. Actually that was found out about before the milk and wheat stuff. Vegetarians were outraged when they found out about the beef. I won't eat there ever again. Daughter and I have too many food allergies to trust them.
  23. I never assume anything is safe. But my daughter has additional food issues to worry about. I would never order a hot dog without the bun because some of them are not gluten free to start with and some contain milk or soy and my daughter is allergic. A hamburger patty is usually safe, but again, not always. Fruit that is cut up and in a package, or a...
  24. My guess is they think they might increase sales by offering something free for you to try. And most likely most people do not have as many food allergies as we do. But for us it is a waste.
  25. What I've done with pancake mix that my daughter didn't care for too much was doctor it up with whatever I had around the house. Chopped apples and cinnamon works really well. Or canned corn for corn cakes. The texture will still probably be off, but she will just drown them in syrup and eat them.
