  1. If it is gluten... Don't bother cleaning out the toaster. Toss it or give it away and buy a new one. There is now way to clean it well enough. What kind of Dr. did you see? Did he/she say IgG or IgE allergy? IgE is the life threatening kind. IgG is also known a intolernance or sensetivity. My daughter had IgG to wheat, gluten and other things....
  2. I have seen chopped fruit that has been dusted with oat flour. But I think it was dates, not figs.
  3. If it did cause it, I'd have it. And I don't. I eat toast for breakfast every morning. Whole wheat. But compared to most Americans I probably eat less gluten than they do. Being diabetic, I do have to watch my carbs.
  4. Drs. don't always believe in food intolerances. And although my daughter's symptoms are not those, her gastroenterologist does believe that she has a food intolerance or allergy that we haven't yet ferreted out. Her case was different though and we think that we found the problem. Wasn't that at all and doesn't relate here but I did post of it elsewhere...
  5. Our school always had a lot of non-food items for rewards. Pencils, stickers, little toys. One dance teacher gave out fancy pieces of paper, like the ones used for scrap books. I think my daughter liked those better than anything! As for food, the standard treat given out was Smarties. Those were safe for most kids although perhaps not the ones with...
  6. I thought I had it bad with all of my problems. I wouldn't wish a corn allergy or intolerance on anyone. One year, my daughter's teacher sort of dumped all of the food allergy/issue kids onto me since I think he was fearful that he might kill one or at least sicken them. I tried to be sooo careful. But this one boy couldn't have yellow dye number 5 (I...
  7. Does cream cheese have corn in it? I don't know as corn isn't an issue for me. I also don't know what gooey cheese is. But I should think you could melt cream cheese or whatever other soft cheese doesn't have corn in it then add finely shredded extra sharp cheddar (perhaps just a bit) to give it a sharper flavor. We used to get Espinaca Con Queso at...
  8. Thanks! We really can't try food eliminations as we have so many intolerances and our reactions are delayed. So that would be too tough to figure out. But next year I'll have us retested. Dr. said to do it every three years.
  9. Either get it all out of the house or... Get yourself a little fridge and dedicate a cabinet or at least some sort of shelving unit for you. Put your food in it. Label it with your name. Tell yourself that the other food doesn't belong to you and to eat it would be akin to stealing. I had to do this with my daughter's food mainly because she was too...
  10. Olives are great! Also try adding olive oil and coconut oil to your diet.
  11. You might possibly have what my daughter has been going through. Have they ever taken an X Ray of your stomach and the surrounding area? She and I do both have multiple food intolerances, but... She also suffers from severe constipation. So much so that the last X Ray showed over 4 feet of impacted crud inside of her. She was very bloated, in pain and...
  12. They tried sugar free ones one year. Anyway... A girl kept pushing me to buy some. I finally told her that we had food allergies. Not quite true as they are really intolerances. So she brightly said that they had sugar free ones! Then I told her that we weren't allergic to sugar. Apparently in PA they sold nuts and trail mix one year as I found...
  13. Ah. Thanks!
  14. Agree with you there. And a list might make them think that something similar is safe. For instance, my dad once picked up a bag of baked potato chips. Not safe even though the regular Lay's were. I don't want to say that the issue with those was gluten. Daughter does have other food intolerances. If I had to send in such a list, it would be short...
  15. Other people here have been sickened by Amy's. Although that company makes gluten-free products, they also make non-gluten-free and from what I have read, they are all made in the same facility.
  16. It's not likely to get better. Even though I spoke to everyone at the school and put things in writing, I only had one teacher who actually "got" it. Actually he was afraid to give any of the "food allergy" kids any food at all. All kids with a food issue were lumped together and he didn't want t be respsonsible for them so he put me in charge. This included...
  17. I have not had to deal with this myself except perhaps for a weird bowel week when my thyroid was out of whack. For the whole of my life I have battled big D, which has gotten a lot better since I changed my diet. Gluten is not my issue but I have multiple food intolerances as does daughter. Daughter has also battled big D but also constipation. Some...
  18. Yes. I take Culturelle. The dairy free kind.
  19. This should probably be its own topic and perhaps in another section. Be aware that many people who must eat gluten free would never eat something you've baked in a kitchen that contains gluten. Unless you have done a total cleaning to ensure no cross contamination, it's not possible to keep the food safe. I would recommend that you purchase new...
  20. Interesting! I was having problems that seemed to be caused by *excess* B vitamins. I take quite a few supplements and just kept adding and adding based on things that I read or that people told me to do. Only after the Dr. wanted to put me on Metanx for numbness, did I take notice. I can not take it as it contains dairy but it also contains very high...
  21. Sorry to hear that. I can relate. I am 54. I have random stomach things and I don't always know what is going on. But I do know now that I am intolerant to things I never would have dreamed of. Lovage, cloves, mint, thyme, tarragon, chamomile, coffee... Plus a whole slew of foods. You might try eating very plain foods for a while. No seasonings...
  22. I am an atheist and I have gone to church. Even Mass. I used to go with my MIL. I did not take communion but at her church I could not! Some churches do not let you take it if you are not a member. I did take my daughter to church once at her request. This particular church passed little glasses of grape juice and bits of bread. Gluten is not an...
