  1. www.landolakes.com has a lot of gluten free recipes. They even have a flour mix. I use the Bob's Red Mill All Purpose Flour blend. I also like Brown Rice Flour/Sorghum Flour/Tapioca Starch mixed together. (I use 1 cup of each, then add 3 tsp X Gum and mix it up). Brown rice is a little healthier than white rice. I like adding flax seed...
  2. Guar Gum is actually a fiber too - (check benefiber, guar gum is it's "active ingredient"). Not to say you can use benefiber to bake with LOL I have not found a local source for guar gum, as soon as I do I'm switching. I think from the fiber fact alone (and how little we can get - unless we eat tons of veggies & fruits - whcih we shoul dany how...
  3. Different ways I've heard about: Use mexican taco seasoning instead of seasoned salt - and don't use the worchestershire. Another way was to use an asian seasoning mix (like 5 spice powder), and use soy sauce (San-J Wheat Free Tamari is gluten free) instead of the worchestershire. For sweet ones I've heard to use peanut butter instead of butter...
  4. My kids and I were just talking about this. I used to put those baby saltine crackers in there (my store called them oyster crackers)...anyway....we have been trying to think of a substitute. My daughter likes the Nature's Path puffed corn cereal - it's like pop corn without the kernal in it. It's really neat - i bet it would work great in a chex type...
  5. Yep. In agremeent on that one!
  6. The salad I usually make is: 2 Romaine Hearts - cut in thin shreds 2 scallions, sliced thin 1 carrot, sliced thin 1/2 pint grape tomatoes, cut in half I serve everything on top of this! Chicken, beef, fish...anything!
  7. For me...the painful skin sensations - it used to hurt to have even my kids touch me or wear clothes. I only get these symptoms as part of a reaction to being glutened now. I STILL have the tingling sharp shooting pain in my feet in the morning, but when I walk around a bit, they get better. I used to have to wait about 30 minutes before being able to...
  8. Ya know what's funny? i'm the only one gluten free in my house, but my kids like the gluten free stuff better than I do! LOL When I make Lorka Bread - they won't eat any bread but that until it's gone! LOL I think if we HAD to go gluten free for them, we could. Looks like you got a lot of great advice here. I hope transition goes well...
  9. Apple Cobbler 4 to 5 medium apples, peeled cored & sliced (I use a wedger cuts in 10 even pieces) 1/2 Cup butter 1 Cup Sugar + 1/4 Cup divided 2 Tsp + cinnamon 1 Cup White Rice Flour 1 tsp Xgum (first time I did it without it, so not crucial) 1 Tsp Baking powder Pinch salt 1 Cup Milk Take the apples, coat with 1/4 Cup sugar...
  10. gfgypsyqueen - that's so interesting. When pregnant with ALL THREE of my kids I ate peanut butter to extreme excess, milk, tomatoes, every thing. (I actually used to have a PB & Tomatoe Sandwich like 3 times a day - each time with a glass of milk!). NONE of my kids have any allergies at all. I guess that doesn't meant they won't develop them later...
  11. Wow....I HAVE to take Iron or I can't get my head off the couch in the afternoon! I've been gluten free for just about 6 mos now. If I take my full swing - I get really sick. I can tolerate my iron (liquid Floridix Iron + Herbs - the box that says gluten free, there are two of them, the one that doesn't say gluten free on the front is NOT gluten free)...
  12. Yes....you should share the recipe! ALWAYS can add another brownie recipe to my box! And my tummy! LOL
  13. I've gotten to the point where I make my own now. It's too frustrating. The only place I can confirm is gluten free is my own house. I have a Cuisinart Ice Cream maker (it's the ICE-20) model, they are like $49.99. I got mine free from free cycle and washed it really really really good before using. The recipe I like best is to take jello pudding...
  14. I learned how to make donuts! They were so so good! I coat them in cinnamon sugar, powdered sugar and cocoa sugar....thinking about chocolate frosting now! I'm assuming it's like a firm gnache (like an entemen's mini donut hole covered in chocolate) MMMMMM....donuts......
  15. ME TOO! LOL Of course, I'm loving the challenge of it too! I love when a recipe turns out great, or an experiment works. I can pat myself on the back and say "I DID THAT". !!! Plus, I'm making things that I would never have thought of making from scratch before - cakes, donuts! I loved baking before, now I REALLY love it.
  16. We were given a gift certificate to this restaurant as a gift from friends, and just used it last night. My first thought was, "Oh yeah, right, I can eat gluten free at an Italian Restaurant." (note sarcasm and rolling eyes!). My husband made the reservation thru www.opentable.com and left a note that said I had Celiac and could have no wheat or gluten...
  17. Yeah, i was oging to say, use soy or rice milk - even vanilla flavored would be great. Maybe try a test cake and let your sister try it before the big day...
  18. Ours is an upper end Weber...my husband removes the pan and empties it...fills with new charcoal, and we're ready. It has a gas igniter so we don't even need matches. VERY easy, I bet even I could use it (shhhhh...I did not just say that!)
  19. MMMMMM.... 1 Large Avocado, ripe, small dice 1 large tomatoe, seeded, small dice juice of one lemon 2 scallions 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped fine (you can use less if you're not a big cilantro fan) pinch salt Combine all ingredients together, mix well, cover, let marinate in fridge for about hour before serving. JUST before...
  20. Anyone know if htis is okay? I usually use Joy without issue. Well it was REALLY expensive when I went to buy it the other day - cannot figure out why! So i bought Sunlight instead. This was about 8 to 10 days ago. I have NO OTHER CHANGES. My hands are covered in little itchy blisters. I've had D so bad that I just started taking Immodium...
  21. I use the 365 Rice Crakers - i get the ones that are Rice Sesame b/c I think the sesame gets rid of that rice after taste a bit. I haven't made it yet, but there's a recipe for mock-matzoh crackers. I've heard from many that it's nice and cripy like a real cracker. Reminding me that I need to try it!
  22. I made the Land O Lakes Sugar cookies (gluten free recipe right on their site) not too long ago. They were REALLY good, and very chewy. I'd use their Gluten Free Star Cut Out Cookie recipe and roll it instead and roll in cinnamon sugar before baking. I would suggest smashing them down a little before baking so that they don't stay in a ball shape. When...
  23. I'm just glad I checked it out. Hubby was going to clean up ole smokey this weekend and sell it so he could get a gas grill! WHEW!!! Truth is we love charcoal in this house, just doesn't taste the same over gas to me. Well, hoping others are breathing sighs of relief.
  24. JUST RECIEVED!!!! YEAH!!!! hubby does NOT have to get rid of his grill! Don't know what was making me sick, but it was NOT the charcoal! June 6, 2007 Reference Number: 4939259 Thank you for contacting us about Match Light Instant Light Charcoal Sure Fire Grooves. We always appreciate hearing from our consumers. No, the briquets...
  25. I've gotten to the point where I take immodium BEFORE any meal I did not prepare myself. I know that doesn't help my small intestine, and is a temporary fix from uncomfortable consequences....but it's nice to know I won't be running to the toilet right after I eat. I try VERY HARD not to eat out at all, and rarely do anymore, but when I do, I take...
