ARCHIVED Woooohooooo! My First Successful Loaf Of Bread!
kbabe1968 replied to luv2cook's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
NO PROBLEM! I just don't want you to get in any trouble (not like Scott is harsh or anything at all). I think due to the real advertising he has on the site he has to be careful of the "free" advertising so he doesn't lose sponsors. It is in the guidelines you agree to when signing up (but who reads ALL of those when you sign up somewhere! LOL ).... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Totilla Chips...help!
kbabe1968 replied to loco-ladi's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Restaurants have this problem too, which is why they usually fry on an as need basis...and toss the leftovers at the end of the night. I would bake and make in smaller batches - no more than you'll eat in one sitting. -

NOT being forum police here - but I want to protect you from my mistakes in the past. You're not allowed to post your blog as a link in a post. You ARE allowed to add it to your profile and I think you're allowed to direct people there. I just don't want you to make the same mistakes I did. -

THANK YOU DEBBIE! Those sound DIVINE!!! -
Hi there. I feel your plight. How are you supposed to be gluten free if you can't afford the foods! UGH! Anyway...I agree with others, stick to fresh fruits, veggies & meats. Rice & Potatos (not the rice a roni type stuff, obviously). I actually just found a puffed rice cereal at our Giant that was only $1.55/bag and it says gluten free right...

I go to an indian/asian grocery to get most of my flours. The one brand of spices we did buy from them (it was a curry powder) straight from India (well, the spice is from india, but packaged for sale in NJ). It listed rice flour as an ingredient. It was Batak, i think. I would definitely call the mfg if they have an american distribution place (a...

ARCHIVED I Just Made Doughnuts!
kbabe1968 replied to kbabe1968's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Debbie, that's wild!!!! Sounds yummy too! The recipe is definitely more like a cake donut than a yeast donut. -
I haven't made the roux traditionally with the flours (melt butter, add flour, brown up, etc). BUT...I have mixed cornstarch in the milk, then heated it until thick, added butter (for flavor) salt & pepper, etc. I've used that to make soups, white sauce, and cheese sauce for noodles. It's always tasted great.

Earlier this year I called French's and they sent me a list. Thier mustards are gluten free - with the exception of the honey mustard (I'm not sure what in the honey mustard is gluten, i haven't picked it up since). I buy thier spicy mustard and have not had any problems with it at all. -
ARCHIVED Chebe Bread Mix?
kbabe1968 replied to WyattsMomma's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My favorite so far is the link you were already given. I don't each much bread lately, but when I do it's this recipe. VERY easy to make and bake. I'm the only one eating gluten free so I usually eat half the loaf and then make bread crumbs with it after about 2 days. GREAT bread crumbs from it...use them ALL the time also. I also like the gluten... -
The things I never would have thought of doing had I not had to go gluten free! I never ever would have made my own doughnuts. I used the recipe for gluten-free Favorite Donuts from this site (if you go to site Index and go in gluten free recipes link)...I had to adapt it a little b/c I didn't have some of the ingredients. I made them into donut holes...

kbabe1968 replied to kdean823's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I've been there too! It's hard starting out, I just did it a few months ago. I dont' think there's a complete compiled list here. But there are a lot of companys which volunteer this information. I would contact or look at the websites for all your favorite products. I was able to do that when I first started and found out a lot of the things I bought... -
ARCHIVED Tired Of The Same Old Things
kbabe1968 replied to AkBravo34's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
When I was single, I'd spend sundays cooking a big meal and pack it up for the week - or a few weeks. One Sunday, I'd make a big pot of spag sauce and a whole lb. of spaghetti. I then would separate it out in meal sized portions in freezer containers and freeze it. I'd also make a chicken and rice dish and do the same. And a stew and do the same... -

ARCHIVED Gluten In Smarties/who Woulda Thought?
kbabe1968 replied to dally099's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have been okay at Wendy's...but I also took the time to ask at the one we go to all the time. Thier fryers ARE dedicated. The products that are used for the fries ONLY touch the fries. So at my wendy's I can order an Bunless Ultimate Grill, hold the sauce. USUALLY I get a side salad or Baked potatoe. But once in a while, if it's not crowded and such...
