  1. I'm with you. I had what the doctors called "Eczema" and then dishydrotic (leaky, blistering) Eczema - that after all this time is actually DH. I wear pants in the summer so people won't see it. My husband met me before it got bad. My "eczema" would flare up and go away in those days. Now I am a walking pustule or at least I feel like one and I sure...
  2. Ok see, I'm still learning... what is in the MSG that people react to?
  3. That's awesome, congrats! I can't imagine trying to date and doing this at the same time. ! It makes me remember how lucky I really am (even with this stupid disease). My husband is learning with me. He's better at label reading than I am sometimes and helps me at restaurants where the wait staff that give you that blank stare... you know the one...
  4. Oh dear. I hope you feel better soon.
  5. For $75 should be served on a gold plate....LOL
  6. Since I'm still learning you many of you probably know these ones but they got me.... The ham I ate on Christmas Eve (glazed in more than brown sugar!) My vitamins licorise BBQ sauce (most of them) smoked salmon spread (damn MSG)
  7. I saw another substitution in one of my cooking books I bought this weekend using buckwheat flakes for oatmeal. Should work right?
  8. Thank you for this post - it helped me a lot as I am also new to this!
  9. Ingredients 1 cup flour 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. baking soda 2 1/2 cups oats 1 cup brown sugar 3/4 cup melted margarine Date paste: 1 cup or 1/2 lb. dates 1/2 cup water 1/2 cup brown sugar Directions Mix together first 6 ingredients in bowl (makes oat mixture). 10. That's fantastic! I love it when it works out! Congrats! I'll have to try that recipe. It's making me hungry.
  11. Your family doc is covered but specialists are not... wow, glad I live in Canada. I have had three dermatologist appointments in December, another one in January and the gatro - I have to WAIT until APRIL....like I said free but you wait... ahhhh... I understand - some days in my office I close the door so I can fidgit and feel crappy in peace. It's...
  12. Sorry, I wasn't meaning to take away from the post. I am sorry you're feeling crappy... Canada is lovely and after 3 months... free health care... long waits but it's free.... My belly is bloated out and covered with DH but I haven't been gluten free long enough to know if it will go away or not... plus being a girl I just look a little more...
  13. I know things are really different in the US health care system and I don't know how it works in the US but here in Canada the only benefit that a pre-existing condition comes into play for an employer sponsered group insurance plan is Long Term Disability (LTD). I would call the insurance company directly and get the answer from them. Would they exclude...
  14. I have only been gluten free for a couple of weeks. That fog is one of the first things I noticed to leave me - thank god! It's like having the flu and then you start to feel better. You didn't realize how crappy you felt for how long until you start to feel better again. It's good that you are giving the gluten free diet a go. I know you are...
  15. Ok, here's my addition to the songs stuck in your head. Imagine driving down a quiet road and young children start to sing... THIS IS THE SONG THAT NEVER ENDS IT JUST GOES ON AND ON MY FRIENDS SOMEBODY STARTED IT SINGING IT NOT KNOWING WHAT IT WAS AND THEN THEY KEPT ON SINGING IT JUST BECAUSE THIS IS THE SONG THAT NEVER ENDS IT JUST GOES ON AND...
  16. Maybe this is a stupid question, can the DH come out from just stress or iodine? I have a pretty stress filled job (among other things) and know that stress plays a factor, but could the stress cause the outbreak on it's own or does the gluten have to be there?
  17. I am with you. I just was diagnosed before Christmas.... what a time of year to start eating gluten free. My mom made date squares with regular oats adn gluten-free flour say that she read that oats are ok. Being that they are my favourite and I couldn't eat them was heartbreaking. I went on a mission to find out a good replacement for my beloved date...
  18. I think everyone is different. I get patches on my feet, arms, back, head, stomach, legs. Most of the places I get a rash have the blisters but my feet and elbows don't always show blisters. If you go gluten free and it clears up you'll have your answer.
  19. I know I did because Christmas Day I felt horrible, then came the D and then the blisters..... I'll be glad to go back to "normal" and I can control my eating better.
  20. My mom does the same thing. She means well and I am trying to educate her. Stupid question. What is the travel card and where can I find it?
  21. HAPPY NEW YEAR FOR SURE!!! This is the best thing I found in 2006 and am looking forward to a healthier 2007. Your posts help me so much. Thanks you guys!

    ARCHIVED Blisters

It sounds like DH to me as well. Which begs more questions for me. I'm new to knowing much about this other than what has happened to me personally. Can DH blisters spread when the "pop"? How long does it seem to take everyone from being glutened to breaking out. I had the stomach upset / D happen within 24 hours and then the blisters follow on...
  23. I wish I found this site years ago. I had no idea what a celiac is until recently. For years I have had symptoms and never put it together... Here's the brief summary No symptoms that I can recall until my 20's Twenties: Eczema on hands, arms and feet Many headaches Monthly Migranes that put me in bed for 2 days at at time Some stomach...

    ARCHIVED Blisters

My blisters are a DH rash... just diagnosed December 20th. They are on my head, sides and back of my neck below the hairline, arms, back, hips, stomach and feet. Good thing its winter so I can cover everything up. The are caused by gluten. I get both internal and external reactions if gluten comes anywhere near me...
  25. I think it's cornmeal that is around the outside of the pemeal bacon. Does anyone know if this is gluten-free or not?
