ARCHIVED Betty Crocker Cookie Mix
larry mac replied to anna34's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I've made them enough times to learn the tricks, so to speak, and I love 'em. I add a couple different types of chocolate chips, and lots of pecan and/or walnut pieces. I made gluten-free CC cookies for several years from scratch, and yes, of course they can be better. But it's more time consuming, and labor intensive. You can whip these up fairly quickly... -

ARCHIVED Betty Crocker gluten-free Cookie Mix?
larry mac replied to Lori2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
They contain no gluten ingredients and are made in a gluten-free processing facility, so I'd guess it's not a glutening problem. They are rich though, what with the butter, the eggs, all the gluten-free flours, chocolate chips, sugar, xanthan gum, etc. And when all that stuff is baked it's pretty greasy. I do love them though. I like to add extra chips... -
What Does Everyone Eat For Breakfast?
larry mac replied to plumbago's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Monday - Friday it's a quick bowl of Chex with 2% milk. And coffee of course (with Truvia). Weekends might be either buttered toasted Udi's bread, or toasted Udi's bagel, with jam or agave syrup. And perhaps eggs & bacon. Or breakfast tacos with scrambled eggs, bacon, cheese, and homemade salsa. best regards, lm -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Hand Lotions
larry mac replied to GFM's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
How about posting any hand lotions that definately do contain gluten? I've never even considered it and haven't had any problems. best regards, lm -
ARCHIVED Betty Crocker Brownie Mix
larry mac replied to NateJ's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
They are a tad tricky to bake. I've made them and didn't cook them long enough and they were too wet for my tastes. I think as with anything gluten-free it's often a compromise. When they're perfectly done you get a slightly drier and chewier outer perimeter (which I prefer), ie. the brownies on the outside part of the baking pan. And the brownies on the... -
Never had a problem. And I get my teeth cleaned three times yearly, plus occasional appointments for other things. Also, I've had two different dentists since I was diagnosed. best regards, lm

ARCHIVED Toaster Oven With gluten-free Cooking?
larry mac replied to Noomers's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have a countertop, convection oven, and I love it. I call it my little nuclear oven. It's my second one (I accidentally broke one of the quartz tubes on the first one). I don -
Do I Need The Endoscopy?
larry mac replied to Marie1976's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes you may be right about that. I want to admit that I don't know as much about gluten intolerances and allergies as maybe I should. I don't ever want to imply that they are not as important, health wise, as Celiac Disease. I just think, and it's only one opinion, that being positively diagnosed with Celiac Disease ( my villi were totally destroyed,... -
Do I Need The Endoscopy?
larry mac replied to Marie1976's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Definately get the endoscopy with biopsies now if you have insurance and/or can afford it. Now is the time to get it. It will be too late after you go on the gluten-free diet. It will give you the definative medical diagnosis you will need to prove you have Celiac disease, and prove you need to go on a strict gluten-free diet for the rest of your life. ... -
ARCHIVED Happy Birthday Irish Davey Boy
larry mac replied to Piccolo's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Happy Birthday IDB from Texas. best regards, lm -
My first Chili's experience after gluten-free was so typical of what can happen at any restaurant, especially if it's busy. Saturday night, I tried to carefully explain to the waitress that I have Celiac Disease and can't have any bread, so please no bread with my meal. Get our food, there it is, a piece of garlic toast right on my plate. It wasn't touching...

ARCHIVED Any Suggestions For Anxiety
larry mac replied to Fire Fairy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've only been badly glutened two times, and almost badly two times, and then mildly several times. The bad episodes were like having food poison, heck maybe they were food poisoning. I don't think so though, because I never had food poisoning before Celiac. Anyway, extreme gastrointestinal symptoms. Both ends, so to speak. So for me, if I sense that coming... -
ARCHIVED Oxygen Levels And Dapsone And Dh
larry mac replied to bllamb47's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
What is considered a low oxygen level? I just recently bought a fingertip pulse oxymeter, during a serious bout of Bronchitis. Because of all the bad ice storms a couple weeks ago I didn't get it in the mail in time to use it while I was still sick. Now I'm reading 99. Just curious. best regards, lm -
ARCHIVED Soy Sauce
larry mac replied to xabbar's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My wife often eats take-out/delivery Chinese food. Lately I noticed the little packets of soy sauce that come with now contain no wheat, or gluten ingredients. I tasted a little. Seemed very weak to me, almost flavorless. But then, I think I'm used to bold flavor in my soy sauce. Before Celiac, I would always say "may I say one word about soy sauce"? ... -

ARCHIVED Should I Have An Endoscopy...
larry mac replied to Kate79's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Man that's a tough one. The decision to deliberately make yourself sick for an extended period. It's a situation nobody should be in unless they don't have a choice. That's why I think it's a terrible decision to go gluten-free before being fully tested. If one can afford it, an endoscopy/ biopsies is absolutely essential, in my opinion. Then you know... -
ARCHIVED Betty Crocker Gluten-Free Devil's Food Mix
larry mac replied to Diane-in-FL's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
About yellow cake mixes. I have a Pumpkin Gooey Butter Cake recipe from Thanksgiving (which I haven't made) that uses 1 box yellow cake mix, 1 egg, and 1/2 cup melted butter, mixed well, and patted into the bottom of a prepared 9x13 baking pan, This would be the "crust" I suppose. Not a gluten-free recipe, but I'm thinking it could be adapted to gluten... -
ARCHIVED Whats The Chance Of Finding Something On Biopsy?
larry mac replied to superfob's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My advise is if you can afford it go for it. It's the "Gold Standard" of Celiac diagnosis. If you are diagnosed by endoscopy and biopsy, then you know for sure you have Celiac Disease. Then you will know beyond any future doubt that you must adhere to a strict gluten-free diet for the rest of your life. The only reason I can see for NOT doing the endoscopy... -
ARCHIVED Milk
larry mac replied to GFreeMO's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Love milk. Never had any problems with it. Drink 2%. Just the cheap Walmart brand. Less than $2 a gallon. The colder the better. And chocolate milk. Usually drink Ovaltine Rich Chocolate (obviously can't have the regular malted Ovaltine that I use to drink). But also Hershey's Syrup, or Nesquik Syrup. Sometimes I blend Ovaltine and Nestle Carnation Instant... -
Tap water comes from a surface source such as a lake or stream, or from a subsurface source such as an underground water table. It has been treated to make it potable. Term: Potable Water Definition: Potable water is simply water that is safe to drink. Potable water is free from polution, harmful organisms and impurities. The thing to remember...

I drink the filtered water from my fridge dispenser. The tap water has chlorine added to it by law to make it safe from bacterial growth. That's usually what makes it taste bad. A charcoal water filter removes the chlorine, and any rust. best regards, lm

I think we drifted a little from the Reeses topic. And I certainly didn't intend to offend anyone. But, they might get that impression from people having reactions to labeled gluten free products that are made in a completely gluten-free facility, for instance. The manufacturers may be asking themselves, what do we have to do to satisfy all these people...
