  1. Please correct me if I'm mistaken, but I don't think it requires eggs. When using a recipe whereby one bakes from scratch, and uses separate ingredients, one would possibly need eggs, flour, salt, sugar, baking powder, butter or shortening, etc. With the modern miracle that is Bisquick however, one needs only milk or water. Thus the "quick" in Bisquick...
  2. I find that for some reason the Honey Nut Chex don't agree with my stomach so well. I really don't think it's gluten though. For one, aren't the gluten-free chex products made in a gluten-free facility? And two, it's been a consistant minor thing the few times I've eaten it. My wife eats it all the time, so we always have boxes of it, ie. I've tried it...
  3. "Ingredients: rice flour, sugar, leavening (baking soda, sodium aluminum phosphate, monocalcium phosphate), modified potato starch, salt, xanthan gum" (from a post above) Isn't it interesting that this product has very little starch. It's mostly flour. best regards, lm
  4. I can only speak for myself, but I'm absolutely certain that if I had not been positively diagnosed via endoscopy and biopsies, that I would cheat on the diet. And why wouldn't I? First off, it wouldn't be cheating, because I would not be on a strict gluten-free diet if all I had was a gluten intolerance. There would be no long term damage to my small...
  5. I've only been accidentally glutened a couple times. But now, if I have any indication that it is about to happen, I immediately take two Immodiums and either a Vistaril (hydroxyzine pamoate) or a hydrocodone, or a little of both. I'm not fooling around with the glutening sickness. best regards, lm
  6. I never worry about it and haven't had any problems. I only worry about gluten ingredients. best regards, lm
  7. I can only speak about my Mcdonalds (inside our Walmart). These versions are smaller and have a more limited menu. You can clearly see the entire kitchen and what everyone is doing. Peter is correct. The fries station is right at the front. It is operated by the counter personel, not the "cooks". The counter people take your order, cook the fries, make...
  8. ssg, Interesting question. One I've never thought about. Funny coincidence also, I've got a real doozy of a sinus infection. Third one I've had this winter. The first one responded well to a Z-Pac (Zithromax), and a full resumption of my allergy meds, Claritan/Zirtek, and Flonase & Astelan nose sprays. Same thing the second time, except I was told...
  9. BT, You don't say if you have Celiac Disease or not. If you don't, you can probably get by eating this product. The ingredients label clearly lists "natural Flavors (including barley malt)". However, the amount is probably very small. You may not notice any reaction from such a small amount if you are not real sensitive to gluten. For those with Celiac...
  10. I never stopped eating Frito Lay products that do not contain wheat in the ingredients. I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease by positive endoscopy with biopsies 3 years & 3 months age. I immediately went on a totally gluten-free diet, and immediately began to feel better. All my symptoms went away, I gained all my weight back, and as far as I know,...
  11. Thus the salt shaker was invented! best regards,lm
  12. Just now I was at Walmart and lo & behold what did I see? Iodized sea salt! What a coincidence. I wasn't even looking for salt. It just happenned to be on the shelf next to the sugar (which I needed) and I noticed it. There was regular sea salt, and the iodized sea salt. Both were in the old fashoined cylindrical salt containers, about 4-5 inches...
  13. Don't know much about Croatia, but over here table salt is absolutely the most inexpensive food item there is. Maybe bulk water is cheaper. I'd just throw it out and get some more. Secondly, and again they may do things differently there, but here there is regular table salt, which contains iodine, and then there is sea salt, which is only pure sea salt...
  14. dated 8-7-2008, PLYMOUTH, Mich. -- For those who loved filet mignon, New York strip, ribs or spicy grilled chicken pasta, Steak and Ale is no more. "The Best Steakhouse in Town" is a thing of the past. The parent company, S&A Restaurant Corp., filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on July 29. All corporate Bennigan's restaurants have also closed. However...
  15. ....."But it happens every single time with plain old Fritos."...... When someone reacts every single time to a food product that contains no gluten ingredients, that tells me it is not a result of cross contamination. Cross contamination is not a constant. If it exists in a production run, it is to a varying degree during that run. There will be more...
  16. Hey Tiff, Back in the 70's there was a restaurant chain called Steak & Ale. My fav was a teriyaki steak. Can't remember what it was actually called. Anyway, at some point I started doing service work for the chain and I was in & out of the kitchen enough to find out what the marinade was. It was
  17. I'll second the moist paper towel method for corn tortillas. Except, my microwave only takes about 10-12 seconds for one tortilla. I just want to heat it up, not murder it! I tried making homemade ones with gluten-free flour blend. Horrible disaster. best regards, lm
  18. Re: 125 Best Gluten-Free Bread Machine Recipes by Donna Washburn, Heather Butt I've been going through about 2 loaves of Udi's bread a week. That's about 45-$55 a month. Plus, sometimes it's not as good as it could be. My 1st loaf was spectacular, but it's never come close to that again. I've been thinking about getting a bread machine that either...
  19. Mary's Gone Crackers. I renamed them Larry's Gone Crackers, 'cause one bite, or rather one almost broken tooth, and I'm gone. They make Nut Thins seem positively delicate. best regards, lm
  20. I love Glutino's pizzas. Their spinach feta version inspired me to make my own using Udi's crust. They both are a challenge though. I've tried several ways to improve Glutino's (and Udi's) crispiness. Although more effort is involved, they all work to one degree or another, IMO. One, just cook it. Eat the outer part. Put the rest back in the oven. Cook...
  21. Happy birthday from the Texas Celiacs!
  22. As of this past Sunday, there was plenty of Udi's at the Central Market at 190 & Coit in Plano. And at the Sprouts in Murphy. best regards, lm
  23. I'm not disputing the statement above, I'm not an expert about it. But, on the rare occassions that I drink iced tea, it seems to make me P a lot. best regards, lm
  24. May I suggest something? Try making Betty Crocker gluten-free Cookie Mix. It has no Zanthan Gum, is super easy, and really good. When I do bake from scratch, I use half Zanthan and half Guar. Works good, and is cheaper than all Zanthan. I personally don't have a problem with Zanthan or Guar gums. Did your other family members have a problem with the...
  25. I haven't found any gluten-free cracker that is anything like a saltine. Glutino's are the only gluten-free cracker that are somewhat comparable to a club cracker. Udi's is the very best gluten-free bread I've found. It is somewhat inconsistent though. The very first loaf I had was absolutely amazing. Ever since then, it hasn't been quite as good. Still...
