  1. Hey lisa. Happy birthday from Texas! best regards, lm
  2. Thanks for the heads up. If I open a container of Double Chocolate and instead find Cookies & Cream, I'll know what happened. best regards, lm
  3. My opinion. If the label does not contain any wheat, barley (or malt), rye, or oat ingredients, then I consider it to be gluten-free, and OK for me to eat. For me, it's just a matter of reading the ingredients list closely. BTW, I eat the snack size Snickers frequently. The one's that come 10 to a package for $1. best regards, lm
  4. Isn't it interesting how Celiacs suffer such diverse symptoms. I don't know if this forum has poll topic thread options, some do. In such a thread, there would a list of symptoms in the first post. Forum members would then check the ones that apply to them. The thread would then automatically tally the results, say by percentage. It's common on many forums...
  5. That's the same problem I keep running into with many "ready to go" food items at Central Market (big Whole Foods). The ingredient listed as: hydrolyzed (corn, soy, wheat) gluten, or hydrolyzed (corn, soy, wheat) protein I wonder if they really contain all three, or if it's a CYA statement because they don't really know? Really sucks. best regards...
  6. I saw some at the health food store last week and they looked pretty good. I think they were Kinnikkik brand. Frozen and expensive of course. best regards, lm
  7. Anyone notice the new boxes of gluten-free Chex's have a much smaller "Gluten-Free" proclamation? At first it was really large, and now it's about half that (and it's in a less prominent placement). I wonder if there was any kind of (non-celiac) consumer backlash. Or, they were afraid it might turn some people off, like some might think "I want my gluten...
  8. I have been taking these for a while now. On paper, they seem like a good idea to me vis a vis Centrum type ordinary vitamin/mineral supplements. There's a veritable plethora of vitamins, minerals, plant & fruit extracts, enzymes, and a kitchen sink, I think. Of course products such as these are more expensive than regular vitamins. I just got some at...
  9. Although I grew up on canned chili, for at least 15 years now I've only made homemade chili. I use tomato sauce (I always thought it was basically thinner tomato puree). Sometimes to give it a little more "texture", I'll use canned diced tomatos, and use my immersion blender to blend them just this side of tomato sauce. best regards, lm BTW, this...
  10. I'm wondering if it's something else that you are mistaking for mold. Mold grows on high moisture substances, or in humid environments, not dry cereal. Does not compute. Large companies such as General Mills have spent millions of dollars on research and development. Issues such as controlled environment storage tests, which show them what kinds of...
  11. It's nice to know that our old posts never die. They just hibernate for a few years before being re-awakened, so to speak. I bought a box of Honey Kix last week. No gluten ingredients. To me, it tasted like slightly sweet cardboard. I find Trix to be much more tasty. Not as good as Fruit Loops of course, but then what is. best regards, lm
  12. Hey D, I'm no cider expert, but I believe "hard" cider contains alcohol, plain cider does not. Perhaps it's an old local term. best regards, lm
  13. Even if they had gluten-free buns, they would have to cook the quarter pound patties on separate equipment than the new third pound Angus patties as they contain wheat in the seasonings. As far as the fries containing wheat StacyA, that's probably the most contentiously debated topic on the forum. best regards, lm
  14. I got this recipe from a lady in front of me at the check-out line at Walmart. I noticed she had all these ingredients, was curious, and just asked her what she was making (I know I do weird stuff like that). TACO SOUP: ~ 1
  15. I bought a box of Honey Kix last week. It tasted like cardboard . I like Trix, and the Chex, especially the corn & honey nut kinds. best regards, lm
  16. Walmarts chili beans do not list wheat in the ingredients, that's what I use for taco soup. They're not as tasty as Bush's IMO (and to the best of my recollection), but they're OK. I don't buy any Bush products now just on principal. I've found I really like Ranch Style brand Pinto Beans (not ranch style beans per se). They are simply great pinto beans. Bush...
  17. If it doesn't have the words wheat, barley, malt, rye, or oats, I'd eat it. I've noticed in the almost three years I've been following the gluten-free diet, there are more and more taco seasonings available without wheat. Including Walmart and Target brands. It's not that hard to find one now. best regards, lm
  18. I eat Ranch Style Brand Pinto Beans all the time. There is no wheat in the ingredients. I assume You're talking about the "Ranch flavor" Ranch Style Beans. If I remember correctly, I don't think there is any wheat listed on those either. I don't eat them though, not a fan. best regards, lm p.s., Watch out for Bushes Best beans. Some (including the Pintos...
  19. With all due respect Liza, this is the Celiac Disease and Gluten-Free Forum. We are commited (not by choice) to totally abstaining from ingesting gluten for the rest of our lives, regardless of the country we happen to be in. Bread is bread. Pasta is pasta. There is no difference between Mexican and US wheat. They both contain gluten. Although I haven...
  20. Not being an allergist, I won't try to answer the question, but I doubt it. However, I do have a recent bee sting story. One afternoon a few weeks ago I walked out to the car to get something. I was barefoot (barefooted?). As I passed a spearmint plant I had planted next to my walkway, I felt a sharp sting at the base of my middle toe. At first I thought...
  21. Happy Birthday from Texas! Hope you have a good one. Your Celiac friend, larry mac p.s., Phoebe Buffay & Penny Lane say "woof woof" (that's how they say Happy Birthday)!
  22. Happy birthday and may God bless you today!

  23. With all due respect TL, I'm not on this diet to get healthy, as a normal person would by eating "health food". I just can't have gluten. I'm more than happy to get some "regular" food, sans gluten. I'll gladly take all the MSG, colors, preservatives, and sugar, etc. I can get, just to be able to eat a good tasting product once in a while. BTW, all...
  24. There are many store brand items I don't think suffer a loss of quality over name brands. Canned peas for instance. Chips and cereals are not on that list. IMO, they super suck. I'm looking at a bag of Fritos. The ingredients are: "Whole Corn, Corn Oil, and Salt. No Preservatives." Sounds good, looks good, and tastes good. best regards...
  25. I don't go to Walmart to purchase labeled gluten-free items. I go there to get 99% of my food at low cost. The occasional labeled gluten-free item I want I get at the health food store, and pay the high price they charge for it. I don't require a gluten-free label on everything. I can read an ingredients list. best regards, lm
