  1. Hi I am in scandianavia, and here in most places in Europe the only valid test is the biopsy, no matter what the antibodies are. It is absolutely silly to go back on gluten for the blood test as the biopsy is the only proof they need. Here the celiacs get 300 $ from teh health authorieties for the extra expenses, so it is rally strict. The only proof accepted...
  2. hi, it may be better to start a new thread here. And , about 5 to 10 % of biopsy -proven celiacs have negative antibodies. Just reead it in the bmj or somewhere. What was the name of the test? nora
  3. Hi fixxy, are you in Europe by any chance? Here it is best to get a proper diagnosis, by biopsy but then you must eat a lot of gluten feforehand----something like 0,3 grams per kg and for several weeks, or your antibodies might have decreased below the level og detection, and the gut might ahve changed to the better, making diagnosis harder. (I did not...
  4. The British Medical Journal even has articles about old people and obese people getting celiac, both of these groups are quite large, like 20-30%of all diagnosed.
  5. Hi, I am in Norway and I sent a sample (tiny ) of blood to England, to Yorktest. It was sent by mail and I have no idea about the cost as it was part of the package (test kit was sent from Norway, an office of yorktest) How should the specimen to enterolab be handled, and what are you sending (.....) I wa kinda thinking about the gene test, they...
  6. Hi I have yeast antibodies tested through yorktest. I have read Karen Tripp's page on candida and she has some thoughts about it, and I think her website is worth reading. She says leftovers must always be heated too. And mold an fungus in houses are bad too for people.....just that we are not tested. There is some info about aspergillus here in teh...
  7. Ithink I did some searches in www.pubmed.com or google or something. On DQ1, just do a search on hadjivassiliou, in pubmed and then the net, like google. there are several articles about dq1 and hadjivassiliou is often one of the authors.
  8. Just thinking about that there used to be something one poured into spinach many years ago to neutralize the oxalates......I lived in Denmark then, and there was this clear liquid that was sold for spinach. What could that have been?
  9. I am not sure about 4 weeks off gluten, that it won't matter. Well, if the villi are absent, it won't matter but what if it is the type of celiac with only increased leukocyte count? I am in Norway, and here they need a positive biopsy for diagnosis, and here they definitely are advised to stay on gluten until the biopsy. nora
  10. This is the test developed by Matti M
  11. missmelissa, your thyroid numbers say hypothyroid. I know because I have this too. You also need tests forthyroid antibodies, both for hashi's and for graves. There is this other blocking TRAb that lowers TSH falsely, and your low ft4 shows this might be going on. Many docs are not aware of teh antibody aspect. Try a thyrod forum like the one at thyroid...
  12. ravenwoodglass, DQ9 is the japanese celiac gene. I read an article on that some weeks ago. We in the west have DQ2 and DQ8 as celiac genes, and they of course only researched those. DQ2 is very comon here. In Japan, DQ9 is very common but not here. so, they just did not research it. nora
  13. About the gene test first mentioned here, the result is DQ2 and DQ7. Now, DQ2 IS the main celiac gene. And, DQ7 is also slightly celiac. It is very similar to DQ8 which is the other main celiac gene. Open Original Shared Link Here, about DQ9 being quite similar to DQ8 : Open Original Shared Link
  14. She says the thorne supplements for yeast are special, as they are selected to be mold-free. All the other stuff is full of mold supposedly. I have looked over at a LDN forum, at Open Original Shared Link and they might need some input about eating celiac, and gluten-sensitivity testing like enterolab. I am not gonna post there, not enough time. They...
  15. Years ago, Karen Tripp put up a website about candida where she mentions that fibromyalgia i just candida of the mucslces...I think she was onto something. She mentions some supplements and of course the diet and has a lot of recipes. (of course buckwheat is high carb so it is an avoid) Open Original Shared Link Maybe someone should mail her and explain...
  16. Hi I am hypothyroid too. My TSH was 2,5 but my free t4 was scratching the bottom of the normal range when I started thyroid meds...... If the TSH was 66, this was quite high. Are you sure it was not 6,00? But that is high too. I am sure the TSH will be abnormal at your doctor's too, because the numbers move very slow. Gluten is known to trigger hypothyroidism...
  17. Hi As I read it, they ran both the tissue transglutaminase IgA test and the tisue transglutaminase IgG test. The Ttg IgA test was weakly positive at 6 as I read it. But, had you been low-gluten for a while? I had. Then the numbers are often low. The Ttg-tests ave very specific for celiac but some other things may cause a false positive but that...
  18. LoriC, DH IS celiac. No need for further testing DH is celiac. Here the government gives us about 300$ a month if one is diagnosed celiac by biopsy (blood test does not count) or diagnosed DH ...... nora
  19. ohiodad, I hope you will get better from the diverticulitis. They give you IV antibiotics, don't they? nora
  20. I do agree wiht you on looking for another doctor. Wow, does he diagnose by looks? New test for celiac, a mirror? (read that on the irish celiac forum--a paitnent was told she did not look celiac....and that was her comment)
  21. My DD2 had lots of stomach pains and ended up in the hospital with them. This was several years before the diagnosis of celiac. Thye doctors alsways said it was nerves...
  22. About the calcium and magnseium cancelling each other, my mother says the same thing. But I do not have any magnesium tablets, I have only natural dolomite tablets that are made by grinding up dolomite rocks which are naturally calcium and magnesium . I tried them first time about 25 years ago and I could sleep so well if I took them at bedtime and they...
  23. I am in Europe and paid aabout 50 $... Daughter had this sharp pain for a long time to the right, just under the liver, where the duodenum starts. I guess the duodenum goes to the left just after that. nora
  24. Alvin, I am in europe and here we always advice people to try to get a proper diagnosis and NOT try going gluten-free first. (or you must go back on gluten, and a lot of gluten, for many weeks or months). I read an article about the genes, and DQ9 is also a celiac gene they say and it is common in japan. For DH, they need to take a biopsy of healthy...
  25. Instant coffee: I notice this is high oxalate, vs brewed coffee in the low oxalate group. I wonder if this is in teh dry matter of the insstant coffee....
