ARCHIVED Confused By Test Results
nora-n replied to pepperzoe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think it means that you have Ttg antibodies that come from eating gluten (this is what secondary to dietary somethingoreanother means) Can you still get the blood tests done somehow? Did you do the gene test? If DQ2 or 8, your ordinary blood tests might show positive for celiac. enterolab is way more sensitive and can only say you are gluten sensitive... -
ARCHIVED My Daughters Tests
nora-n replied to JustMe75's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My daughter is very reactive to gluten and dairy and only had positive tests for dairy. I have only negative tests but react very much. we are gluten-free and dairy-free. the test for DH is a skin bipospy of healthy skin next to the rash. The IgA in the rash is used up so one cannot biopsy the rash. It is well known that those with DH sometimes do not... -
ARCHIVED New Here, And Have A Weird Question. (long Post, Sorry!)
nora-n replied to GlutenFreeMN's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, about baking, I gave up baking things with ordinary flour for hubby, because I noticed it kept giving me this DH rash behind my ears ans other places. Hurts and burns. I never reaslized the connection until after I went gluten-free and it got better until I noticed it got worse when baking. Now I had some gluten crumbs in the vacuum cleaner, and ... -
ARCHIVED Frustrated With Outcome Of Tests
nora-n replied to FreeportMom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was thinking, they do not want ANY false positives here in Europe, as the government gives the patients money each month for gluten-free food in some countries. Here they get about 300 dollars (more than 1600 kr) a month. This affects all testing everywhere as doctors have to have the same standards. So they can only do tests that correspond to villi damage... -
ARCHIVED Frustrated With Outcome Of Tests
nora-n replied to FreeportMom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes. And they tell me that sinde I amn not DQ2 or 8 they will not pursue this celiac question no matter what (unless I come up sith something else, I guess the only thing I can come up with now is a positive DH biopsy, but I have not managed to get a referral) -

ARCHIVED Overweight Child And Celiac?
nora-n replied to landkwold's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There is an article in the bmj (british medical journal) online that says that 30% of celiacs are obese (and probably will lose the extra weight off gluten). nora -
ARCHIVED Negative Dna Test... Now What Do I Do?
nora-n replied to splash's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Good you found the Hadjivassiliou references useful. I doubt your gastro doctor has bothered to read the articles but I have read a nrwegian article in the doctor's bi-monthly paper about neurological symptoms from gluten, and they briefly mentioned hasjivassilout but they try to explain the neuro symptoms with vitamin deficiencies....when in fact ther... -
ARCHIVED Blood In Stool
nora-n replied to AFH's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Blood in stools is not really a typical celiac symptom, but I did have some slight blood on the toilet pape which resolved after going gluten-free. I have spoken with others with blood in stools that went away off gluten, though. -
ARCHIVED Frustrated With Outcome Of Tests
nora-n replied to FreeportMom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, I just want to mention that they say that one needs to be back on gluten for at least 6 weeks, better at least 3 minths and one has to eat at least 0,3 grams of gluten per kg for positive biopsies... I was back on gluten 5 weeks and had negative biopsies but I am not DQ2 or 8 either. I have more neuro symptoms plus the fatigue and possibly DH... -
kassandra, in the old days they only had iron shots in the bum, and they worked fine, too. But they hurt. Have you tried them? nora

Hi, I have read about it before on the thyroid websites. I think the hemachomatosis websites say the gene test is best. What is the prevalence og hemachromatosis? My ferritin is like 37 or so but I am from northern Europe, half at least. nora

ARCHIVED Test Results - Help - I Need The Gluten Smartie Police
nora-n replied to jmd3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sounds like he has DQ2 and 7 and no other tests were done. They do not mean much as 30-40% have these genes. nora -
ARCHIVED Gi Doc Said Dont Need To Eat Gluten For Blood Test?
nora-n replied to tbradley93's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Some researchers take biopsies and then expose the biopsies to gluten or lgiadin and then measure the antibodies with immunfluorescence. Only then would the test be accurate, if you happen to be a subject in one of these studies...... They do not do that in us ordinary patients (yet) The researchers are also in the middel of studies for a new test, where... -
ARCHIVED Got Enterolab Gene Test Results Back Today
nora-n replied to woolwhippet's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The DQ2 may be from both alpha and beta, but the more commone DQ2 is just one...this is described in detail some other places. So, DQ2 can involve just one allele or two for one expression..... There are illustrations online from the researchers here in Norway, must find the links, but one illustration is at Open Original Shared Link and Open Original... -
ARCHIVED Gi Doc Said Dont Need To Eat Gluten For Blood Test?
nora-n replied to tbradley93's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think they actually call it refractory celiac disease if there is still damage after three years off gluten... Sometimes people post on the forums with something like that, but it is rare. nora -
ARCHIVED Got Enterolab Gene Test Results Back Today
nora-n replied to woolwhippet's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I read taht DQ7 is very similar to DQ8 which is the other celiac gene besides DQ2. Open Original Shared Link "Eight of the 122 celiac disease patients lacked both the heterodimer and the DRB104 alleles; therefore, we further screened the DQB1 locus to investigate if other alleles were present in association to celiac disease (2)(14). Two of these... -

ARCHIVED Doctor Won
nora-n replied to analop's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Spain, I live in Norway and all Norwegian IP addresses have free access the the bmj, the british medical journal. Same may apply for spain. In it there are some good articles about celiac, and i remember there is one that says that it may take years for antibodies to become positive and some times they never get positive. You find the articles in... -
ARCHIVED Can Trace Amounts Of Blood In Urine Be A Symptom Too?
nora-n replied to RedHeadMel's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I remember too reading about a conection between blood in urine and celiac, even in animals, I think I read it on the neurotakl or braintalk forum where dogtorj posts. -
ARCHIVED Interpreting Blood Work
nora-n replied to borst's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had tiny specks of blood every day for three years before going gluten-free. Now it is totally gone. An aquaintance without a diagnosis but avoiding gluten has the same thing. nora -
ARCHIVED Negative Dna Test... Now What Do I Do?
nora-n replied to splash's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, you are double DQ1 (DQ5 and 6 are subgroups of 1) and just type in hadjivassiliou in pubmed.com or google and you find lots of articles about DQ1 and measurable neurological damage by gluten. I think I must be DQ1 as well, as I react very neurologically to gluten. There are even forums for neurological symptoms of gluten, and guess what , there are... -
ARCHIVED Another "could I Be..." Thread
nora-n replied to Tranquillity's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
i, I live in Europe, and with wheat starch in this context, they mean the codex alimentarius wheat starch. In the UK, they call it codex wheat starch or just codex..... The naturally gluten free starch, is what they call anything that you would call gluten-free in the US. Here in this country, the govt. institutes have analyzed a variety of gluten... -
ARCHIVED Oxalates And Nightshades
nora-n replied to jerseyangel's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
How intersting. About the liquid to neutralize the oxalate in spinach, I remember distinctly it was calcium. Would be nice and handy to have it for other things too....maybe a chemist can answer what it is, and how to find it/make it.
