ARCHIVED 4 Year Old Tested Negative, Now What?
nora-n replied to kim26's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Bumping up this message. I think I read that high IgA means something is going on . Maybe the antigliadin IgA would show up positive, I think it was not done. nora -
ARCHIVED Why Confirm With Biopsy
nora-n replied to bailey4's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You were asking if your small bowel has healed enough in those two months off gluten to not show any damage now? Some people have had positive biospies after one month gluten-free. I think it is individual. I had a negative biopsy after five weeks badk on gluten after accidentally being off gluten for half a year (I was doing atkins and happened to be... -

nora-n replied to toomuchagony's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The rash could be DH, of course. I think I have read on the forums that one can have ulcers from gluten. nora -
ARCHIVED Eating Gluten Before Blood Test?
nora-n replied to LuvMoosic4life's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, atleast six weeks, better 3 months or more, and 0,3 grams of gluten per kg. That would add jup to about 21 g of gluten per 70 kg. This would maybe be more than three.four slices of bread (the protein amount in wheat cosists of about 90% gluten) so you might have to do some reading and some math to find out how much bread to eat. it might even be... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy: A False Positive?
nora-n replied to mom2lucas's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have read something about coating on vegetables and fruit and frozen vegetables somewhere, maybe here. something about that it could contain gluten. About the milk and yoghurt, I would definitely try without any milk or traces of milk. I am very sensitive to milk but I could tolerate small amounts before getting so sensitive to gluten. It happened very... -
ARCHIVED The Gluten Test
nora-n replied to lizzy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Maybe You have DH as well as celiac? There are biopsies for DH and the treatment is the same, going totally gluten-free. Just go look over at the DH section here. nora -

About the selenium, we know about it on the thyroid forums. It lowers thyroid antibodies, both those for hashimotos and graves disease. The max amount is 200 -

About the getting high on cake, I mentioned it here before, just check out reichelt and gliadin in a search engine....there are opioid sequences in gliadin and casein proteins. This is what autists react to. Are you an Aspie, Rachel?? About what ldn is, it is Low Dose Naltrexone, brought up here as one of the latest things going on. I read on the ldn... -
ARCHIVED Eating Gluten Before Blood Test?
nora-n replied to LuvMoosic4life's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My daughter was six weeks back on gluten and sick all the time, but she did it voluntarily in order to get a proper diagnosis (we are in Europe and get money if we prove we are celiacs...) I do not know how neccessary it is for you to get a diagnosis. Here is a link about how long one must be back on gluten (the minimum time, and I think it applies to... -

About the fragrances, I cannot have even one thing in the house with any fragrance in it. I have carried stuff into the carport several times (things snuck back in and a box of stuff belonging to a daughter consisted of fragrance candles and soaps and scents....end that even after I had told her I got sick from stuff like that....It got stored in the barn... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Test Results - 2 Doctors Are Stumped!
nora-n replied to A**T's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Here in Europe you would definitely try to get an official diagnosis, but not neccessarily in the US. The most specific of the tests, the ttg test, was negative, but a biopsy might still show that the villi in the small intestine are damaged. I read today that the damage can be anywhere in the intestines but they only scope to the first part of the intestine... -
ARCHIVED So Confused! Need Doctor?
nora-n replied to LuvMoosic4life's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
About italian, there are so many Italians that are celiac , that all school children get screened for ceilac over there. It is really easy to get gluten-free food in Italy and they have gluten-free pasta and pizza etc. Enterolab has a gene test too (you have to pay privately for all Enterolab tests I think) and they will tell you what the genes are, as... -
ARCHIVED Just Got Hit Again :(

In that case, You still need to eat a lot of gluten, like abo at least 0,3 grams of gluten per kg of body weight, shluld be about 21 grams if You weigh 70 kg. nora -
ARCHIVED Celiac Test Results - 2 Doctors Are Stumped!
nora-n replied to A**T's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, you can get an explanation about the antiglidin test at Dr. Ford's website (just type in ford gluten into google) If your tests are negative for the ttg and positive for the antigliadin, you are currently gluten-sensitive and most doctors think you are not celiac (unless you happen to have a positive biopsy) The gut heals very quickly and in those... -
ARCHIVED 1 Week Gluten. Enough For Positive Biopsy?
nora-n replied to MELINE's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had those cold sores too, funny. went away after going gluten-free. But they definitely looked and felt like cold sores. Those things in the mouth are not so uncommon caused by gluten. nora -
ARCHIVED Lab Results Frustration
nora-n replied to horsesjapan's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Generally, they test the tissue transglutaminase and antgliadin IgA, and the total IgA. If the total IgA is low, they also run the IgG version of these tests. (at least here) Here the reference ranges of most labs is published on the internet. nora -

ARCHIVED Advice Re: Daughter
nora-n replied to fjnt's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Really sounds like celiac, the joint pains and big D are very typical for celiac, together with the weakness and stomach pain and headache. Dd had stomach pain daily for years. In the old days, they said celiacs must have floating stools so I never got the connection with her. Also, doctors told me acouple of times stomach pains in kids always were nervousness... -

About the thyroid meds, if you go over to the thyroid forums, they say the thyroid meds have to be optimized by the free t4 and free t3, nt just the TSH (unless you are absoolutely fine, then you should not mess with teh doses) The ft4 and ft3 should usually both be in the upper half of the range, and the exact numbers are individual. But they should be... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy In One Week
nora-n replied to KristaleeJane's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have read some articles where they discuss the numbers on this tissue transglutaminase test, and the latest news is that if the numbers are jsut slightly elevated, celiac is not sure (but we here would say they did not biopsy the right place...) , whereas a high number like yours is definitely celiac. Forgot where I read that, but found the link at the... -
ARCHIVED Could Be Celiac
nora-n replied to georgiegirl64's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I really guess the biopsies were taken at the end of the duodenum, which is the first part of the small intestines. The scopes really do not go much further. DD had this pain the same place, to the right, and this is where the start and middle of the duodenum are. she could feel pain at the vey same spotwhen they took the biopsy samples. I could feel my... -
ARCHIVED Advice Re: Daughter
nora-n replied to fjnt's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
fjnt, I read on the alt.support.celac newsgroup ages ago that one always should ask to see the biopsy report, as some pathologists only diagnose celiac when all villi have gone. Also, I have read there that it si possible to get a second opinion on the slides. If the intrepithelial leucocytes are more than , I guess latest I read 20 per 100, this is likely... -

I had costochondritis as a hypothyroid symptom, and it went away on thyroid meds, and came beck when under-dosed and went away again on the right dose. sometimes there are discussions about costochodritis on the thyroid forums and it is not uncommon as a hypo symptom. nora -
ARCHIVED Test Results Too
nora-n replied to kkv's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It is really the other way around, if he means that the antigliadin IgA was positive and the antigliadin IgG was negative. The antigliadin IgG is elevated in more people, so they say it is less specific (but Dr. Ford says those with antigliadin IgG need to go gluten-free too www.doctorgluten.com ) Officially the antigliadin IgA being positive means...
