  1. fedora, about your grandmother with melanoma--- have you seen all the good reports from patients on ldn? I heard the first time about ldn here in the OMG thread where they sum up almost all alternative things....just google ldn or low dose naltrexone . nora
  2. ve you checked out the glutensensitivity forums at braintalk and neurotalk? There is more about the DQ1 there. There is not so much activity right now, but archives are interesting enough. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
  3. sorry I had a typo. The site is Open Original Shared Link There is also an active forum Open Original Shared Link nora
  4. Hi, a lot of us here have some thyroid issues. Gluten is known to trigger thyroid antibodies. Mary shomon has some articles about that at tyroid.about.com. High TSH would be hypo. Some hypos are under-weight. nora
  5. I think teens would ned a positive blood test, or a trial off gluten, something they can see or have experienced. I remeber my daughter slept for three days after introducing cheese while on an elimination diet when she was a teen. She used to be so tired she dropped out of school, bythe way. She did not want to be allergic to milk and was in denial for...
  6. i suspect I am DQ1 subtype 5 (because of the neuro symptoms) There are several DQ1 on the forums and they are often very gluten sensitive. By the way, I read 2,5 as being DQ2 in one gene and 5 in the other....and I do not think they report which kind of DQ2 one has, as one would have to t the genes, and not just the expression....two different cookie...
  7. Norwegian. Sollid and Lundin have done some important research re. the genes in celiac. If you google the sollid group you might get some hits about the curresnt gene research, I think it is about other but realted issues right now. Should be some ares in pubmed too. www.pubmed.com The medline links (medline=pubmed) are good for surfing, one just clicks...
  8. Aha. I read those abstacts and understood the 2.2 gene as you describe it as half a gene like they describe it.... like in here: Open Original Shared Link and some other links (and the 2.5 gene is made up with half the dq1 gene, as described in some articles Here they call it cis or trans position and have a diagram Open Original Shared Link and...
  9. Hi, I did not get awfully sick back on gluten either. But I did notice neuro symptoms after six weeks. There are man postinga about neurological or psych . symptoms here, by the way, and gluten trigger antigliadin antibodies that attacck the brain, just google hadjivassiliou . nora
  10. What do you mean with DQ2 type 2? I never heard of that one. nora
  11. I read in the DH folder that a biopsy for Dh should be taken during an outbreak. Does your rash look like DH?
  12. Only gluten-free oats are gluten-free, the other (regular) kinds are usually contaminated with gluten, either from the field, the threshing machine, or the facilities where it is processed.
  13. the article says a slice of bread is enough, but that is not enough according to another article. There it says at least 0,3 grams of gluten per kg weight. If one weighs 70 kg, then one needs 21 grams of gluten. That is several slices of bread a day. They think that 90% of the protein in wheat is gluten. I weighed some bread at home and read the labels...
  14. Hi, about that throbbing feeling below the chin, I have this too when my thyroxine dose changes, or if I eat goitrogenic foods. Hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism is quite common in celiacs. Here is a link about the gene thing Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link some were DQ7 and DQ9 has been reported too in celiacs and Dr. Hadjivassiliou...
  15. Propofol is only done i.v. as far as I know. It is the kind you wake up from quite quickly I think. I have seen it used on patients. In normal dentistrywith local anesthesia they use other stuff. I do not know what they use, it is some kind of lidocaine I think. nora
  16. There are even two forums about the neurological issues from gluten! Check them out and read through the pages, there are lots of links in the postings although the forum itself is not so busy right now.... (the one thing is antigliadin antibodies attacking the brain, search the web for Hadjivassiliou, and gluten ataxia, check out www.ataxiaalternatives...
  17. Mine were small like those in the picture but more clear liquid containing. I am still waiting for the biopsy results. Mine burn. I had another outbreak two weeks ago, behind the ears. There is a DH folder here, but there may be more people here. nora
  18. I tried enrolling for a trial of the activated T cell test, but I did not get enrolled. They only took in 28 persons. ... I had a skin biopsy for DH, Dermatits herpetiformis, which is a for of celiac but in the skin. The antibodies are called ttg3; the celiac antibodies are ttg2 so it is a tiny bit different from celiac but not much. It was taken before...
  19. Actually, there is a test they can do after three days back on gluten, but it is experimental: Open Original Shared Link they look for freshly activated T cells. There should be more articles about it by now. Another questin is, do the pathologists there know what to look for? I have read on these forums before, and some pathologists will only diagnose...
  20. GI doc told my doctor he excluded celiac, but there is no such thing. I was off gluten , then back on gluten for five weeks and had a negative biopsy. Blood tests were negative (taken beforethe gluten challenge but afte some months gluten-free) I had thought that antibodies would stay around for a while, but these celiac antibody tests re deisgned to only...
  21. I am negative for DQ2 or DQ8 but still very gluten sensitive. There are several like that here on the forums. Just do a search on Dr. Hasjivassiliou and he sais that about 20% of the gluten ataxia patients are DQ1. The thing is, the other genes like DQ1, DQ7 and DQ9 can be celiac too, but the incidence is about one tenth of the incidence in DQ2 or 8...
  22. I was looking for somthing in Medline and searched pubmed.com and then I tried autism methylation and there are some hits. One of them is in the ajcn (interesting site, I found a lot on vitamin D there before) Open Original Shared Link I have not gotten as far as PST yet.....but ajcn is indexed in medline (lots of publications are not, like anything orthomolecular...
  23. I think the doctor meant the duodenum looked flattened, by looking at it. This is a typical look of a celiac duodenum. There should be all those bulges in teh intestines. Nothing was said about the villi at this point, obviously. My DD2 had this, and negative biopsies, and lots of symptoms that went away on gluten-free, so she had an official diagnosis...
  24. About milk being addictive, it is proven that casein breaks down to opioids...see karl Ludwig Reichelt's articles and all the autism Gluten-free Casein-free pages etc. There is even an urine test for those opioids. nora
  25. A long time a go there was someone with lots of bloating problems and after a while we thought it had to do with yeast sensitivity. This would mean anything fermented and yest and mushrooms and vinegar and mold in houses. There is even an abstract on pubmed.com about yeast causing the same reactions in the gut as gluten, and it is in The Lancet.... (I have...
