  1. Okay--- I am from a much more relaxed church where the priest realizes that communion wafers were not made until the modern era and will frequently use bread. For more traditional catholics I would use a gluten-free wafer. As far as trace amounts, you never know. You may little to no damage to your health and barely notice, or you might throw it right up...
  2. This is normally not a problem. Talk to your priest outside of mass and you can do one of a few things, have your own host (like a corn chip or a piece of rice bread, it can be anything) blessed that you can receive after mass or you can only take the wine. The key with this is that the wine can't have any of the host in it, so see if that would be possible...
  3. Not in my mind, especially when you have kids. The All Star resorts are some of the coolest looking hotels that I have ever been in. When I was there (I was 11 and my sister was 9) it was great, full of families, the food was easily accessible and affordable, and the bus ride wasn't that much longer. We went again when I was 18 and my sister was 15 and...
  4. I've been to WDW twice, both long before I was symptomatic, but I can tell you that when we stayed at the All Star Sports hotel the cafeteria workers were amazing and extremely accommodating. They made it so easy for my mom to find things for me to eat (I was recovering from pneumonia at the time and I had horrible heat sickness. All I wanted was a baked...
  5. You will be fine. Anything and everything you could ever want is in London. First of all, the labeling on the products is so far advanced than what we have here in the states. I wasn't dxed at the time I was over there, but I remember seeing food with "gluten-free" written on it in all of the grocery stores. Secondly, when you go to a pub order cider ...
  6. Does anyone know if Hershey's Truffle Kisses are gluten free? My mom sent me a bunch, but I'm not sure if they are gluten-free and their nutrition info isn't online. Thanks!
  7. You are allowed to give blood as long as you are not malnourished (ie your iron is high enough). The way I know it is that most of the studies that are done to detect the prevalence of Celiacs in the US have been done through blood banks. Also, the iron test and me not "bouncing back" after giving blood were the first signs that my stomach problems were back...
  8. Mine was triggered by viral bronchitis during the start of a new job.
  9. I know this may sound strange, but are you sure you aren't a) constipated or b ) had gluten? The reason why I asked is that all of my symptoms when I got sick off of gluten mirrored a gall bladder attack. They even had the doctors and my mother fooled. It is a lot easier to fix constipation than surgery.
  10. Some simple things I would suggest to help your wife and baby are: Chicken and rice soup: it is really not that hard to make homemade. Boil a chicken thighs or legs (including the bone), water for an hour, remove the bones and add carrots, celery, onions, potatoes and any other veggies lying around the house. Let simmer for 10 minutes then add rice. Continue...
  11. I completely understand, I am allergic to corn syrup. It is in EVERYTHING!!
  12. They are testing me for the primary reason of constipation. My GI told me that a lot of patients he has seen only have constipation, but most have diarrhea as well. Try giving your daughter a lot of fruit and veggies. If she is still having problems, consider getting her tested.
  13. Yep, which is why I am currently 3 feet away from the bathroom. Tomorrow after my test I am going to go gluten-free until my follow-up appointment with my GI at the end of June. If I respond positively to the absence of gluten, regardless of the test results, I am staying off of it. We just need a diagnosis so that I can have gluten free food at school. ...
  14. While all colleges have to comply under ADA, they only have to if you are formally diagnosed AND have a letter from your doctor to attest to it (my current problem). When you have that, go to that special accommodations officer (ask your RA or Orientation Guide-- who do I go to for ADD accommodations, it will save you a ton of time and is 99% of the time...
  15. I am a college student and we are in the long process of getting diagnosed (long before I knew what celiacs was and that it ran in my family I told my doctors that bread was making me sick). I finally asked my campus health center if they could run a blood test for me and they asked me what celiacs was . When I told her, she said that she had no clue what...
  16. Hi, I am meeting with the doctor this morning to get a blood test. How long ago do I have to have eatten gluten for the antibodies to show up on the test? I am concerned because I had TONS of gluten in the past week, especially on saturday, which confirmed to me that I have a gluten-intolerance/celiacs when I felt horrible on Sunday, but have tried to...
  17. Hi, I am currently in college and we are positive that I have celiacs (bloating, cramping, constipation (especially after eating bread or beer), mood swings, brain fog, anemia, low potassium even though I eat tons of bananas, sore muscles/joints, family history...). The thing is I can't get tested until I go home, which will be a little over a month and...
  18. I haven't been to mexico in a while, but my bf's parents just returned and we are in the process of planning a trip there. Here is my advice: 1. Take acidopholus for 2 weeks before and every day you are there. It will help you "adjust" to the health standards 2. Buy and drink bottled water only-- no ice. This means no margaritas. Sorry 3. As far as...
  19. I wanted to let you know that Woodchuck has gotten tested and is gluten free! I am so happy to hear that because it tastes much better than beer and I don't get sick off of it.
  20. I have had problems with that product as well and I didn't realize that there were any alternatives. What I have found in the past is having the pharmacist call on your behalf will make it far more likely to get the drugs that you want. Just explain the problem to them, ask for their opinion, and ask if they could explain it to the doctor. It works wonders...
  21. Hi, I was wondering if this sounds like Celiacs to you all: I have been having stomach problems for over a year and a half. Shortly before last Christmas I was rushed to the hospital with extreme pain on my right side that we thought was a gall bladder attack or possibly an appendix. Numerous cat scans, ultra-sounds, and blood/urine tests came up with...
