  1. Ok, I know Thanksgiving hasn't even arrived yet, but I'm ready for Christmas! Does anyone know if Duralogs or PineMountain logs are ok to burn? We have pinemountain logs at home which are supposed to be better for the environment than regular wood but one of the ingredients is binders. I tried contacting the company but haven't received an answer.

So, if anyone has any experience with these logs could you let me know? Thanks.

  2. I was put on Azithromycin the cheap version of Zithromax for a infected mouth and it been 2 hours since I took it and I am having terrible pain!! Does this med have gluten even though Zithromax is gluten-free? Does Azithromycin have gluten? Are there different brands of this drug? Please Help!!!

Not sure if it is gluten free or not, but I do know that I can't tolerate any antibiotic ending in mycin. They make me throw up immediately, sharp stomach pains and feel rotten for hours. My doctor told me it's an unfortunate common side effect. I will only take penicillin now.

I got this off of medicinenet.com "The most common side effects are diarrhea or loose stools, nausea, abdominal pain, and vomiting, each of which may occur in fewer than one in twenty persons who receive azithromycin. Rarer side effects include abnormal liver tests, allergic reactions, and nervousness."

    Hope you feel better.

  3. I have white spots on my teeth too and ridges. My former dentist actually told me that the ridges were caused by me brushing too hard! My gastro. had a good laugh about it when we were discussing tooth enamel defects and celiacs. I was really young when I went to this dentist so I believed her. Went out and bought the softest toothbrush I could find and was paranoid about "scrubbing" my teeth.

The edges of my front teeth are uneven too. Has that happened to anyone else?

  4. This is such a useful post. Thanks for starting it!

I only use NARS makeup and skin care products. All are gluten free. They are pricey but so worth it. The tiniest bit goes a long way. Please watch out for Smashbox. Not all of their stuff is gluten free. I stopped using it because of that. I also like Wet and Wild lipgloss. I think I read somewhere on this site that all of their products except one mascara were gluten free.

As for lotion, I love and can't live without Gold Bond Ultimate Healing Lotion in Aloe. My hands crack and get really itchy in the cold weather or if I wash them a lot. This is the only thing that heals them and makes the itchies go away.

Love Wella for shampoo and conditioner. I use the Color Preserve line. Don't have any problems with it and don't see anything in the ingredients that could be gluten.

    For toothpaste we use Sensodyne.

I buy a lot of this stuff online at drugstore.com or it's sister site beauty.com.

  5. I haven't found any gluten-free stuffing mixes, but then, my own homemade gluten-free stuffing is so good that I haven't looked for any recently. Does anyone have specific brand names?

Gluten Free Pantry has one - Open Original Shared Link. I did a mock Thanksgiving dinner last week to try out some recipes as this will be my first gluten free Thanksgiving. The stuffing came out really well. My non gluten free husband even enjoyed it.

  6. I go to Dr. Gary Schwartz of Gastroenterology Associates. While not at Winthrop they are associated with Winthrop. The office is located at 1103 Stewart Avenue in Garden City. 516-248-3737. I love Dr. Schwartz. He really listens to you and he is out there actively educating himself in this disease. I know he also attends all of Dr. Green's seminars. The website if you are interested is - Open Original Shared Link.

    Good luck.

  7. I used to get really terrible migraine-like headaches daily prior to going gluten free. Now maybe once a month I'll get one. All the pain meds I popped to get rid of them gave me a bunch of ulcers so now I can't take anything but tylenol. So, my gastro. doc told me to drink gatorade to get rid of them and it works! He said a good portion of headaches are due to dehydration and gatorade is the best way to fix that. Thought I'd pass it along. :)

  8. I freely admit that going to a doctor's office fills me with anxiety. The waiting room full of sick people, the needles, the testing, the smell (they all seem to have the same weird smell) - it's panic attack city for me. I will also admit that my husband accompanies me to a majority of my doctor appointments to make sure I actually go. I getting panicky just typing this.

So, with that background in mind, could someone tell me what happens at a visit to the neurologist? I'd rather have the whole truth. It makes me feel better to know what's going to happen. Will I have to get an MRI? That thought scares the hell out of me. The numbness in my fingers and feet is starting to get more and more noticeable and I guess it's time to have it checked out. It's starting to bother me while driving. Does anyone else have that problem? I'm ok with a quick drive, but on a longer one even my leg will start to feel a little numb.

  9. I am self diagnosed too. I've been so sick for years and the doctors could never figure out what was wrong with me. I was told I had RA, cancer, anemia, Raynaud's and a million different other things. Finally I got the "diagnosis" of IBS. Well, when my symptoms never got any better taking the medication or eating more fiber, etc. I knew I was going to have to figure this out myself. For some reason I kept thinking about this girl in high school who couldn't eat wheat. I wondered if this was my problem too. After researching my symptoms I knew this is what I had. Especially after finding this site. I felt like I wasn't crazy any more. Other people had my symptoms too. I went gluten free right after the New Year and felt so much better. Most of my symptoms have gone away for good. Some I still have. Perhaps they are permanent - such as the numbness in my fingers and toes. But my incredible headaches, sinus problems, ataxia, joint pain, ibs symptoms and extreme fatigue are all gone along with my acne, hives and itchy skin.

When I finally went to get tested I had already been gluten free for months so the blood work came back negative. This was fully expected. My gastro. decided to do the endoscopy anyway. This came up inconclusive. No damage found. But the doctor has listed me gluten intolerant because of the positive dietary response. He also said that he knows I wouldn't do a gluten challenge and that it wouldn't make any sense to do. If you feel better not eating gluten then don't eat gluten. (I love my doctor.)

I will never eat gluten again. I can't imagine going back to being as sick as I was.

  10. Patti,

The scratches are from cutting but they are pretty bad. You can see them without having to hold the dish up to the light, but that might be because the dishes don't have a shiny glaze on them.

I really don't want to have to replace dishes right now. It's not in my budget at the moment. I guess I am just having an obsessive gluten moment. Sometimes I get really paranoid about where it might be lurking that I haven't figured out yet.

    Thanks for your advice.

    Beth
