ARCHIVED Job Question
gfgypsyqueen replied to CaraLouise's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Can you post a little more information about the type of work you were doing in your last job, what was glutening you, and some other careers you think you would like? People on this site have a wide variety of jobs and skills. I am sure someone should be able to make suggestions Sometimes it seems hard to stay at a job when you started out healthy... -
ARCHIVED What Made You Have Your Child Tested?
gfgypsyqueen replied to Hopefulmama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was the first one diagnosed in my family. My oldest was tested because she is my child and has other food allergies. My second was tested, begrudgingly by the drs, because of all of her health issues. Turned out the oldest is severly lactose intolerant, but not Celiac for now (No gene test done). The youngest had the gene, was blood tested and biopsied... -
ARCHIVED Help With Testing My 6 Year Old
gfgypsyqueen replied to glasgirl8's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Have you done a gluten challenge or an elimination diet? In kids with issues, I think trying the diet for a few months is the only real option - and the cheapest My youngest had the DQ2 gene and an inconclusive biopsy. And this was after a battle just to get her tested for Celiacs (I have it and she had problems). End result is the Dr yelling at me... -
ARCHIVED Dq2 Gene For Sure
gfgypsyqueen replied to BemLmom3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My house is not strictly gluten-free either. We make it work. Washing the dishes kills me because I have a contact reaction to gluten. oldest child has severe nut allergy. Therefore no nuts allowed in the house. She does not eat anything made on shared equipment. 2 yr old has celiacs. She is gluten-free/CF, shellfish free, and nut free (not allergy... -
ARCHIVED Dq2 Gene For Sure
gfgypsyqueen replied to BemLmom3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My two year old had many symptoms of Celiacs but it took forever to force the drs to do a biopsy. It came back inconclusive. They also tested her for the gene's then. She has DQ2. After much denial and continuing issues, she was made gluten-free/CF in August. She is much better. We also do not have a confirmed biopsy. But she has the gene and reacts to gluten... -
ARCHIVED Having Trouble Accepting The Diagnosis Of Celiac And Allergies To Food
gfgypsyqueen replied to applecore's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Linda, You sound like you are overwhelmed, but at least you now know what the problems are. I understand the overwhelmed feeling of figuring out this whole mess. My family also has a variety of food allergies (peanuts, tree nuts, dairy, wheat, shellfish, and possibly eggs) in addition to Celiacs. It is hard to add a new food allergy and watch you... -
ARCHIVED I Need Advice And Help For A 3 Year Old!
gfgypsyqueen replied to PattiB's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
One of my kids went through that for years. It was horrible. The Drs put her on adult doages of stool softeners. Warning labels of over dosage from the pharmasist and all. I got lectures on how to feed a growing child from the DR. Just terrible experience for everyone. In the end the problem was dairy. Once all dairy was eliminated, stools have never been... -
ARCHIVED Restaurant Frustration
gfgypsyqueen replied to horsegirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have to agree with kbtoyssni. I tend to be that difficult person at the table. I learned that servers are terified of customers vomitting becuase they have to clean it up. So I tell the servers about our immediate reaction if there is a trace of the allergens - vomiting. I call restaurants to see if they can accomodate my gluten-free diet, but most have... -
ARCHIVED Gastroparesis, Anything That Might Help?
gfgypsyqueen replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hey PattiJean, Interesting note for you. Before my Celiac diagnosis the Reglan I was taking for Gastroparesis wasn't working as well so the DR put me on the Erithmiacin (sp?) too. I hated it. Made me loopy. Several months later I finally got the Celiac diagnosis. After being gluten-free for 6 mths or so I stopped taking the Reglan and the Nexium and I... -
ARCHIVED Delayed Growth, Vomiting For 2 Months
gfgypsyqueen replied to sez's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would recommend getting the formal biopsy test for Celiacs and gene tests. If those come back positive, the child will not be able to argue with you when he is older about whether or not he really has this disease. If the tests are inconclusive or negative, I would still recommend trying the gluten-free diet for 6mths or so. Keep a log to see the changes... -
ARCHIVED Can I Develop New Food Allergies?
gfgypsyqueen replied to CandaceJ's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Allergies can come at any time, even if you have eaten the food without problems. If you currently have food allergies, ask your allergist for advice. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it for now. Rather than trying to avoid a new allergy, think about your gluten-free diet in terms of ways to avoid boring meals. Eat a variety of foods. Eat a balanced... -
ARCHIVED Skin Rash Or Food Allergies?
gfgypsyqueen replied to Guhlia's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Allergy testing isn't that traumatic. You may find she has an allergy you never knew about. You may find out she is food allergy free. But my view is from the side of food allergic children. My daughter went into anaphylactic shock after one bite of nuts when she was 1.5 or 2. She had eaten nuts before without a problem. I had no idea what was going on or... -
ARCHIVED Gastroparesis, Anything That Might Help?
gfgypsyqueen replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've got Gastroparesis too! They took out my gallbladder (it wasn't working either) hoping it would trigger my stomach to function normally. Not the case. I would NOT recommend that option. Personally, having an appitite is not the problem. Think of Thanksgiving dinner and how full you are afterward, I feel full like that for days after a normal dinner... -
ARCHIVED Ideas For Removing The Dairy From Recipes?
gfgypsyqueen posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My favorite bread recipe uses powdered milk. Now I need to remove all the dairy from the recipe and I'm a bit lost. Anyone have any suggestions? Or, does anyone have a tried and true recipe for an Italian bread recipe? Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Quick Question
gfgypsyqueen replied to Kathy'sUnicorns's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Swelling tongue is a new one to me for a gluten reaction. Sounds dangerous. If you are going to the allergist, tell them that story and see what they say. I would get tested for a wheat allergy in addition to the Celiacs that you already have. They are different. As far as I can remember, you do not need to be eating a food i order to be allergy tested... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Sometimes Makes Me Feel Even Worse
gfgypsyqueen replied to Walter S's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would look into food allergy testing. Or keep a food log and see if you can match a food to problems. Can you tolerate nuts ok? Sesame seeds are sometimes a problem for people with nut allergies. I used to be intolerant/allergic to quite a few foods. (Couldn't afford a real test at the time.) One bite and I would vomit or pass out and then have a great... -
I believe one of the Benedryls contains a dairy product. I think it was the strips or chewables. Really I just can't remember. Call and check if dairy is an issue for you. Over the years I have noticed that if I take a Benedryl or now Zyrtec, when I have eaten out or had a gluten reaction start, the reaction is not as bad. I still have a reaction, it...

ARCHIVED Help
gfgypsyqueen replied to SIERRANSYDSMOM's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't know of any other KIX style cereal that is gluten-free and nut free. Perky'O's are gluten-free and nut free. They look like Cherrios. I think Glutino has another Cherrio style cereal that is gluten-free and nut free. You'll have to verify that one. Would puffed rice cereals work? I have a nut free child - anaphylactic to all nuts (PF). And... -
ARCHIVED Very Slow Digestion Of Foods
gfgypsyqueen replied to DrMom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don' tknow if you have had this problem tested, but I have Gastroparesis. I just do not get hungry. The food sits in my stomach for hours on end. I have vommited, when sick, undigested food that I ate 8+ hours ago. Gastroparesis is delayed gastric emptying. That was one of the items that was diagnosed prior to Celiacs being found. They took my gallbladder... -

I'll meet up in Sarasota. Love Whole Foods! I am south of there, but I go to Sarasota enough anyway. -
ARCHIVED Still Not Sold On The Negative Test Results....
gfgypsyqueen replied to goldyjlox's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I also had a super picky consitpated kid. Terrible poop battles that lasted for years. Clingy, tummy aches, refusing to poop for days on end, etc. Medication helped, but she was on really high dosages. Eventually I ended up removing all dairy from her diet and the constipation is gone. My guess is she has severe lactose intolerance. After a few months of... -
ARCHIVED What Should My Next Step Be ?
gfgypsyqueen replied to ChrisH's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi and welcome, Since you mentioned problems with eggs, you may want to have some food tests and allergy tests just to rule food allergies out. Next I would request Celiac blood work and biopsy from the Dr. Do not go Gluten free if you plan on being tested for Celiacs. The results will be skewed if you are gluten-free at the time of the tests. As... -
ARCHIVED Please Help, My Sister Is Pregnant And Won't Get Tested For celiac disease
gfgypsyqueen replied to tiffjake's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Isn't the Dr concerned that she lost weight and that much weight while pregnant? If nothing better, stop pushing the celiac angle and pursue the weight loss. Ask her to find a reason for why she lost the weight while pregnant. She has lost probably the amount she should have gained by now. Ask her to have the sonograms done now to check that the baby is growing... -
ARCHIVED Freezing Gluten Free Pasta
gfgypsyqueen replied to sammers1's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I would think the easiest would be to make all of the fillings and sauces and have everything prepared. Then the morning of the party cook the pasta and throw everything together. Hope your party goes easily
