Ali, that's great. All of us wishing for good things for you must have worked! Perhaps you could be roommates? Wow, that's an idea - a gluten-free house! Also, I hope if you can't go home for Thanksgiving or Christmas that you can take the offer you got from people here to go to their house(s) for the holidays. Best of luck and wishing only good...

ARCHIVED Buy Biaglut Pasta In Seattle?
cyberprof posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I want to buy some Biaglut pasta but would rather do it locally than order online (so I can cook it this weekend). Anyone know who carries it locally? I want instant gratification! Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Bruising While Giving Blood
cyberprof replied to little d's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Funny, I was just thinking about this today. I've never been able to give blood. The techs always say "Don't even try" because I have low blood volume. I have no idea if/why it is related to celiac. One thing I wondered though, if a celiac were to need blood and got it from a gluten-eater, would that make the celiac patient sick? Just curious... -
Ali, I read your other posts when I was at work today, but I can't post at work, so I didn't respond. I also teach part-time at a community college- just got done now (and, no, it wasn't me that called). I am so sorry you are feeling bad and and I really do know what you are feeling, at least a little bit. I had really bad depression in college and my...

ARCHIVED Breakfast Ideas
cyberprof replied to carriecraig's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I love the Trader Joe's gluten free/dairy free pancakes but the rice flour doesn't agree with me, so I don't eat them often. I don't eat any bread replacements either because of the rice flour. I am going to make Mistilyn's bread recipe after I find sorghum flour. I used to love an open-faced breakfast sandwich with (pre-gluten free days) whole wheat... -
Alex, you might try flaked quinoa. They sell it to use in baking or as a hot cereal. Cooked, it should look more like couscous, smaller and less crunchy than quinoa. Good luck!

Ali that is terrific news, both for you and for celiacs and others who need this type of help. I'm so happy for you- you sound happier than last week. I was worried about you. You will succeed in getting yourself healthy and getting that degree so that you can help others! Best of luck in everything.

ARCHIVED Negative Blood Work?
cyberprof replied to holichka's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Holichka, welcome. Yes, I had negative blood work but I had a positive diagnosis based on a biopsy, conducted via an endoscopy of my small intestine/duodenum. I, however, did not have "blunted villi", which is a sign of much damage to the small intestine, I only had cellular evidence of damage, which was enough to give me the sympots that you list below... -
ARCHIVED Recipe For Crumbs On Apple Crumb Pie?

I haven't tried it yet, but try Shauna's recipe....looks good! Open Original Shared Link -
Doctor #1- An internist. I'm 45 and the doc is a woman a bit older. I go in complaining of bloating and "bathroom" problems, with several symptoms of ovarian cancer and wondering why I feel so bad. She poo-poos me but pokes me and does a blood test for ovarian cancer, which is negative. Tells me I'm just overweight (I am, by about 25 pounds) and to go...

ARCHIVED How Long Did It Take You To Stop Hating Celiac?
cyberprof replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I understand the anger and I hope none of these responses make you sad or angry. I was totally happy for a week or two after diagnosis because I felt so much better immediately and it was a relief that it wasn't cancer or the other things I thought. Then, the CC hit and I realized that the possibility of being a "normal" person was gone. I had to... -

ARCHIVED Cankersores?
cyberprof replied to Joni63's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My DS has not yet been diagnosed (age 14, going to GI next week) had a bakery sample and got a canker sore before he left the store! Really quick reaction! I think that is what made him realize that I wasn't just "over-reacting"! -
ARCHIVED I Fell Off The Wagon...
cyberprof replied to TheresaM's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Congratulations on the birth of your baby. Such an exciting time for you and your family! My opinion is that the diet itself will be the reward, once you start feeling better. You might start with fresh whole foods, with the idea of nourishing your body-- plain fresh meat, chicken and fish, tasty veggies and fruits (cooked if that helps your digestion... -
ARCHIVED Is It Really Possible To Be 100% Gluten-free?
cyberprof replied to Jesse E's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think it is possible to be 100% gluten free but it involves having/doing the following: gluten-free house, not eating out or at business lunches/dinners, weddings, parties, while traveling etc., not eating in restaurants or friend's houses, not eating processed foods, and being 100% sure of your cosmetics, spices, condiments etc. I approach eating... -
ARCHIVED Do I Need A New Doctor?
cyberprof replied to someday's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Not only is it unethical, it is illegial under federal law(HIPPA) to disclose your private info UNLESS you specifically give permission. When you ask him, tell him that you did not give him permission and you are specifically asking him under HIPPA to cease violating your privacy. Oh, and good luck. I don't have any advice about the hair but I hope... -
ARCHIVED Think I'm Getting Glutened
cyberprof replied to confusedks's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree w/Yellow Rose. Get a pot, a med-size frying pan and several microwave dishes. (I keep a few of the Corningware White dishes that come with microwave-safe lids...they have little blue vents. I bought my dishes at a grocery store or like at a Wal-Mart or Fred Meyer.) Also, you might try getting a small dorm-sized frig for your room. If you can... -
ARCHIVED Negative Blood Work, But Positive Biopsy?
cyberprof replied to MissCici's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, I had my biopsy first (they were looking for ulcers, not celiac, but did some SI biopsies any way "just because they were there..."). I had the blood tests a week later, but they were all negative. I didn't have flattened or blunted villi, just microscopic damage, immune system response etc. at the cellular level. I think I was lucky to be diagnosed... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Pill
cyberprof replied to hit2win1's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would be interested in it. What a breakthrough it would be if there was a pill to stop not only the bad stomach problems but also the damage. I'd like to help that kind of research. If I was getting glutened on the placebo, though, I'm not sure I could continue if I felt bad, there's only so much I could take. It's offered at the hospital where... -
I've never had DH so I don't have any direct experience, but my derm works in this office and I think this guy might be good: He has a PhD in immunology plus an MD and teaches at the UW. Open Original Shared Link You could call and ask...Good luck!

Given how hard celiac is to diagnose even now, I guess it is reasonable to expect that 50-100 years ago a lot of celiac diagnoses were missed. That doesn't mean that I think you're wrong to be mad. It is totally understandable. I don't know which side of my family had the celiac gene or maybe it was both. Both sides were Irish. My one grandfather...

ARCHIVED How To Ease Accidental Gluten Consumption
cyberprof replied to technikolor's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think your outlook is ok and you obviously know your wife better than any of us. I do believe that it is like a death. You know, the stages of grief: disbelief, anger, etc. etc., acceptance being the last. So it may be a "death" of feeling like a young (I don't know how old you are but it doesn't matter), healthy couple and change your view of life.... -
ARCHIVED Definite Link Between Celiac And Premature Labor?
cyberprof replied to Marjorie's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I think after one episode of premature labor, you are by definition "higher" risk, celiac or not. Ursula has good points. Have your levels checked and then see if your OB can refer you to a dietician who knows about celiac. Many don't, some good ones do. It may take some looking to find one. -
ARCHIVED New Here, Need Advice On Symptoms
cyberprof replied to rose810's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Gfpaperdoll, I think she means that it may take 18 months to feel better or "normal" on the gluten-free diet. OP, I get tooth pain from sinus headaches/sinus infections. All the rest of your symptoms could be celiac. Try eliminating gluten and see if it helps. -
