  1. Also, if you're wondering about multi-vitamins and other medicines, here is an excellent link: Open Original Shared Link
  2. Congrats Jerry, I know you've had your struggles along the way, but I think you can honestly see now that it was well worth it. I also have noticed dramatic decreases in stress and anxiety in my 7 gluten free weeks.Just today at work when the wheels were coming off, I kept my head and it didn't even bother me. I hadn't even realized I had been in a stressful...
  3. For as much as I tell my family that gluten is lurking about, just waiting to jump onto my poor unsuspecting gluten-free stuff, the reality is it doesn't. Your veggies would have to contact the same surface as the pastries did for any CC to occur. Of course, you do need to be careful when actually making the pastries or anything with flour, that's when...
  4. Glad to hear things are looking better for your birthday! You are correct on most ice creams being gluten free unless it's something like cookie-dough or oreo cookie, etc. Edy's ice cream even labels their gluten free brands as such, it is located under the nutritional information block on each package.
  5. Now that's funny right there. I admire Jerry for his honesty and openess, unlike me when I ate 4 or 5 slim jim's BEFORE reading the big "Contains soy and wheat" right on the frickin' label...Doh!! Is acidophilus a probiotic? I think it is, I've had extremely good results taking those the last month.
  6. Ok, here goes: Pre-workout: Boiled egg 1 cup strawberries 2 T. peanut butter V-8 juice Post-workout: Boiled egg Cream of Rice w/ honey and blueberries banana Protein shake w/ yogurt, kiwi's, and cran-apple juice Meal 2: 6 oz chicken breast 2 corn tortillas 3 oz colby cheese 1 cup grapes 1/4 cup almonds Meal ...
  7. Hello and welcome to the forum Hey Carla, I see you're heading to Florida this Sat. I'm leaving Sunday for Disney, can't wait to try all the gluten free dinners everybody turned me onto here. I'll post what I ate today when I have a few extra minutes, it's quite a list when you're consuming 5000 healthy calories a day
  8. "Living Gluten Free for Dummies" and "Wheat Free, Worry Free" by Danna Korn are excellent books for getting started. Welcome to the board, you've found the best source for info right here. Lots of knowledge and helpful people here. Made my first month gluten free a heckuva lot easier. Ask lots of questions, that's what we're here for.
  9. Sorry you're feeling down. I do like the idea about ice cream instead. But, I don't understand why your "friends" at work won't make a gluten-free cake for you? They're not THAT much more expensive. Just goes to reinforce my theory that for the first few weeks after our Dx we are a novelty item, then we gradually become a nuisance and eventually bothersome...
  10. Amen to that! Yesterday I was getting roast beef at the deli and I asked the counter-person if I could see the ingredients because I was on a gluten free diet and needed to avoid WRBO. She said she could read them to me, which she did, and all seemed fine. She packaged up the roast beef and when I looked at the price sticker, it had the ingredients listed...
  11. My doc had me taking 1 weekly for a month and a half because all my nutrient levels were in the basement due to malabsorption. I'm supposed to start only doing one a month now, but they have definately helped a lot.
  12. If I can do it, you can do it I've had to give myself weekly B12 shots for the last 4 weeks, I guess the doctor got tired of seeing me when I was actually healthy! For blood draws in the past, I would get so worked up I would literally hyperventilate. Now, I pop in my injection with only a minor deep breathe. The first one is the hardest(obviously...
  13. Hopefully you won't experience any adverse reactions if there was any gluten ingested. However, don't use that as an excuse to try it again. Just because you might feel alright after having a tiny bit of gluten, your insides are still being shredded and the consequences can be far worse than a night on the toilet. Not trying to be heavy-handed or anything...
  14. Yes, but weren't those runs more challenging when you had to plot out a course that included an easily accessible restroom every quarter mile Congrats dude, keep up the good work!!
  15. No, not harsh at all. Calling him an idiot was a compliment. How about irresponsible, conjecturing, witch doctor who probably graduated in the bottom 5% of his class? There, now I feel better
  16. Here's a link to a recent discussion on Fruity Peebles Open Original Shared Link The general consensus is that they are ok, but might be subject to cc issues if not made in a dedicated facility, which I don't believe they are. They haven't bothered me and the Cocoa Peebles make awesome rice krispie treats!!
  17. I know flax seed oil helps the body produce and raise testostorne levels, and when testosterone rises, estrogen levels usually go down. Thus it would make sense that women who are pregnant should not take flax seed oil, but I seriously doubt that 5 capsules over 4 months produced any negative effects on you or your baby.
  18. If you define anti-social as being crankier than an 80 year-old who just missed the 4:00 early bird special, then I fall into that category. Got glutened last night for the 2nd time since being gluten free and I've not been the most pleasant person to be around today. I'm having my wife read this thread so she can see I'm not using it as an excuse to...
  19. I just wanted to give a big heartful thank you to all you wonderful people. You've made this last month so much easier than I could have imagined. I can't imagine trying to navigate this drastic life-style change on my own. You are informed and always willing to share your insights and experiences. Thank you for your time, committment, and generosity. And...
  20. Kraft salad dressings are generally safe, they will clearly label if wheat is in it. Kraft has this policy on all their products, they and ConAgra are considered two of the best in the mainstream labeling department. I'd call ahead to restaurants and ask them what brand they use, then check with the manufacturer myself to make sure. If you have just...

    ARCHIVED Omg.....

Yep, me too. I may end up overweight, diabetic, with high cholesterol and clogged arteries, but I'll be Gluten Free! And probably broke, this stuff is really expensive
  22. The kind of carbs you ingested could have some effect. Not all carbs are the same. Google "glycemic index" or "glycemic load" and read how a baked potato can be worse than a candy bar

    ARCHIVED Omg.....

Now that's funny right there Kinickinnick gets my vote, best I've had so far. Although I find you still have to toast the hell out of it. I need a toaster like the amplifier they had in the Spinal Tap movie. You know, the one that goes to 11 instead of 10
  24. Nope, wasn't me. Haven't been back to Bloomington since they gave me a diploma and asked that I not return. Some crap about "pulling down their academic standards"
  25. Hey, I'm not a vegetarian because I love animals, I'm a vegetarian because I hate plants Actually, not a vegetarian, but I love that line! Think I'll add it to my sig.
