  1. Hi Amy, and welcome! Unfortunately, we all heal at different speeds, depends on your body and how much damage has been done. Fortunately, you WILL start to feel better eventually. Assuming you were on the diet before this weekend, you might have been glutened by cross contamination or from a hidden source that you thought was gluten free but wasn...
  2. OK, I'm 2 weeks into being gluten free and now all the people at work who are always on one diet or another are telling me to be careful of "dieter's depression". What is that? I've never been on any type of diet in my entire life. I'm a 42 year old male, thin built, and I'm trying to maintain between 3000 and 3500 calories a day to gain back some of...
  3. Well, that's good. I'd just make sure you keep on eye on those levels, mine were all ok too and then just went into the basement. Hope you get something figured out soon, I know how horrible it is to drag thru the afternoon.
  4. Just did survey and thought it might be a good idea to bump this thread back up to the top since the topic came up again. Highly encourage everyone who hasn't taken it yet to do, it's a great chance for us, the people most affected, to make our voices clear.
  5. On the bright side, you may be able to try to re-introduce dairy later, after you've had some time to heal up. Depending on how much damage was done before you went gluten free, dairy is often the hardest to digest when you start the diet, especially if it's from whole milk or another high fat source. Hope the backaches clear up soon.
  6. Could you please post the Thin Mint recipe when you get it, those were my fav's. In fact I just got my order in three days before I was diagnosed Had to put 'em in the breakroom for the vultures at work. Argh!
  7. Welcome! You've found a great place, that's for sure. Lots of helpful information and support.
  8. Now that's funny, I like how your mind works
  9. I never came up as anemic, but my B12 was low. I was taking supplements for that for a month and still feeling like you described. Then wham!, did a blood test and doc called me 2 days later at 7 a.m. and told me to get to the emergency room immediately, all my major levels had dropped to critical levels, basically I was absorbing nothing. My electrolyte...
  10. I think that's just a CYA statement, at least they're honest about it. Chances are 99% of companies should slap that statement on their products but don't because they don't want to appear duplicitous. While it might seem that Blue Diamond is trying to have their gluten free cake and eat it too with the sponsoring and CYA statements, the bottom line...
  11. Glad to hear that you are feeling a little better, and you sound much more positive also. Keep focusing on the positives and your successes, and it will continue to get a little easier everyday. I think you hit right on the head when you said "this is making me more aware of my choices and forcing me to be healthier". As sick as I was, focusing on being healthier...
  12. And guess who was breast fed. Just great. First I find out I'm 1 in 130 that has Celiacs, then I find out I'm in the 16% who were breast fed. Story of my life No wonder my doctor kept telling me "you're a weird case" LOL
  13. Tomorrow nothing! A friend of mine gave me a box of Glutino brown rice elbow macaroni at church tonight, said they were the best she's found. Saw kbtoyssni post about the kfraft idea and raced off to the kitchen. Just finishing off my second helping. KB, you're an angel and a genius!!! Thank you bunches
  14. Don't sell the diet short just yet, it does not necessarily have to be bland. Several mainstream barbecue sauces(Sweet Baby Ray's and Open Pit) are gluten free, as well as French's mustard, Hellman's mayo, and Heinz ketchup. LaChoy soy sauce is gluten free( they also make one with wheat in it, so be sure to double check). Kraft horseradish is also gluten...
  15. Yep I throw up occasionaly, did just yesterday when I got CC'ed. I think it all depends on how each persons body decides to attack the "foreign invaders". Hope you feel better soon
  16. Fruity Peebles are gluten free!!!??? Darling, you just made MY day. My cereal was thing hardest thing for me to give up. As for this all being for my daughters best in the long run, oh absolutely! As I said earlier, this will help so much with the ailments(symptoms?) that have plagued her the last year.
  17. Symptoms of gluten sensitivity and Celiac disease are the same, and they should go away on a gluten-free diet. If you're still having minor issues on the diet, double check everything to make sure you're not accidently ingesting some small sources. You might also be getting some cross-contamination issues, where the level might not be bad enough to send you...
  18. 10 days into being gluten free and things were going well. Felt much better and actually enjoyed being in the kitchen again. Then yesterday afternnon, wham! Worst cramping and bloating since December, and eventually D all night. Didn't eat anything yesterday that I hadn't already had earler in the diet, think I got CC'd from an old plastic bowl at work I...
  19. If you share a kitchen, CC will definately be an issue. The level of risk depends on how many and how careful everyone is. I know my 2 daughters(14 and 9) love me to pieces, but breadcrumbs, spilled cereal, etc. are always on the counter. Additionally, since they are suppossed to do the dishes, I constantly have to remind them how thorough they must be. Your...
  20. OK, finished cleaning out the pantry and fridge. Now on to the cooking and eating utensils. How far should I go? Wife and two middle school aged daughters(all celiac free) to share kitchen with. My own strainer and large boiling pot are a must, probably my own fry pan also. What about spatulas, knives, forks and such. I know it's my own decision, but...
  21. Hello and welcome! I'm new here also, but have been around long enough to know you've found a fantastic place for information, support, or just venting. As for dining out, I know Outback Steakhouse has a gluten free menu, and the one in my area(Indiana) is very accommodating. I think there are a few others, keep searching this forum and you'll find...

    ARCHIVED House

I like House just to see how far he will push the envelope each episode. Maybe it's the part of me that wishes more doctors could "think outside the box" a little bit. BTW, I think the impersonation Mike MacDonald does of House on MAD TV is absolutely hilarious, now that I feel like laughing again
  23. Does anyone have any info on which flavors of Yoplait or Dannon yogurts are gluten free? I contacted Yoplait and am waiting to hear back from them. Dannon's web site said they are "formulated" to not contain gluten, but due to the stabilizing process, they cannot guarantee that they are gluten free. Any thoughts? I'm only a week into this and playing russian...
  24. I'll give Mickey a big hug for you. I've been to Disney ten times and have seen Mickey every time( sorry, don't mean to rub it in) We're going the first of April and will be my first venture out and about since being dx'd with celiac disease five days ago, and I was kind of stressing about how things would work out. From the replies here, looks like...
  25. Awesome! Thanks. Didn't mean to sound to frustrated, but I'm new here and my previous message board experiences were all sports related, where if you don't have 15000 posts to your credit you are treated like an idiot.
