I've heard from sources other than myself that Emeril supposedly has celiacs & diabetics in his family or knows a celiac or something along those lines. his restaurant staff was very informed when i was there and were very accomodating when i asked my questions. I use several of his spice mixtures at home that are gluten-free (the steak rub is the best...

I wasn't sure really where to post this. I found out I have celiac disease when I miscarried in January. When that happened I had to diagnose myself. All the docs. of course said it's "normal" to have a miscarrige. Well, I knew it was not normal when you considered everything else I'd been complaining about for several years. So, I researched, found out...

a. get a Celiac blood panel test ASAP b. find new doctors ASAP c. try to eat as many fresh foods as possible - fruit, veggies, meat d. hang in there and remember you're not alone. every one on these boards has a story very similar to yours and in the end probably 90% of us figured it out on our own. since there isn't a magic pill for celiac disease American...

I just spent a weekend in South Beach and ate at these restaurants. The only one that was questionable was Evolution but I think that was because the sauce had dairy in it not because of gluten. Emeril's at the Lowe's Hotel Evolution at the Ritz Carleton Pacific Time on Lincoln Road Overall Pacific Time was the best food wise (and the cheapest - go...

ARCHIVED Hotel Living Making Me Sick...
alamaz replied to redharmony's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
WOW! It sounds like you need a big hug with your gluten-free food! You are really amazing to be keeping it going with all the stress you're under. Is there any way to buy fresh fruits and veggies to snack on? I find that a Lara Bar and piece of fruit are super easy and helps hold you over. If you eat fresh fruit and veggies try dipping them in a nut butter... -
Every one here is so educated! That's great! I raise money for a non profit that provides emergency and transitional housing to women and children who are homeless because of domestic violence or other hardships. I never thought I'd enjoy it but at the end of the day I know my efforts made a difference in at least one persons life even if it is temporary...

ARCHIVED Twin Labs Gluten Free Supplements Product Listing
alamaz posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just got this today from a rep. at Twin Labs vitamins. I could never tell if the products were gluten free because they don't have an allergen statement so I contacted them directly and this is the list I got back from them: (I've seen these products in Whole Foods & Natural Food Stores) Thank you for your reply. Below is a list of products that... -
ARCHIVED Acne Breakouts On My Face And Back.
alamaz replied to Dman's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
some people say that soy acts like the hormone estrogen (it's recommended to women to relieve symptoms of menopause) and also i've read that pretty much the entire soy crop in the US is genetically modified. Glad you were able to figure out what was causing your breakouts! -
we were at wildfire on a friday around 5pm and there were several children in the dining room but as it got later there were less children. no one seemed to be annoyed by the presence of the children. the place is expensive but the menu is great!!!!

ARCHIVED Dairy & Tolerance
alamaz posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've been gluten-free and DF since about March One. This past weekend was my b-day so Friday night I had a small scoop of vanilla ice cream and today I had another small scoop of vanilla ice cream along with some cream cheese icing on a cake. I feel fine. Does this mean I'm okay with dairy now? Enterolab said I had an allergy to dairy but I don't feel like... -
ARCHIVED Flourless Chocolate Cake

It's a great recipe! A good chocolate fix that's for sure! How did you make a raspberry glaze? That sounds really good and might make it not so chocolatey..... -
ARCHIVED Why Didn't This Work?
alamaz replied to cycler's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Interesting...I made this cake last night and it came out perfect (although with the icing it is definitely SWEET SWEET). I followed the recipe to a tee and it worked in my kitchen, I used Bob's Red Mill all purpose flour and baking soda not powder. I did have mine in for about 45 mins. The top when it comes out is a little "sticky" but not raw. -
ARCHIVED Am I Crazy, Or Are Women More Frequently Gluten Intolerant?
alamaz replied to jonney's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think men are less likely to complain about themselves and seek medical attention. my dad is in my opinion an undiagnosed celiac and has had symptoms for years - horrible dental problems, essential hand tremors, the big D, brain fog etc. and like most people before diagnosis he's lived so long that way he thinks it's normal. i am the first to be dx in... -
ARCHIVED Twitching Leg Muscles
alamaz replied to Caeli's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would suspect a vitamin deficiency. What your describing seems similar to "restless leg syndrome" which really isn't a symdrome but a manifestation of nutirional deficiencies that result in poor circulation (atleast that's my theory, I'm not a medical professional or have any medical experience but this comes from what i've read). Do you take a magnesium... -
My immedate co-workers are good about looking out for me but you'll always have some cow-pies in the pasture of life. That is one way to look at it! I am so tired of policing the kitchens everywhere I go. I think I will definitely invest in my own set of paperplates and untensils and maybe try to bring meals that don't always have to be heated up...

Okay, I seriously work with a bunch of pigs who don't clean up after themselves at the office so our little kitchen area is inches deep in crumbs from 10 years ago (and no, really, I'm not kidding). Every day there are bagels, coffee cakes, desserts, cookies, sandwhiches -whatever- sitting around. There is NO clean place and if there is a clean place it will...

Chicken stir fry with rice (or fish stir fry) Fried rice Omlet Baked Italian Fish with rice I don't really have recipes but that's probably what i'd throw together....

I had my first gluten-free dinner party and made this Flourless Chocolate cake for dessert. The best comment was "This isn't from a store? It tastes so good like it would be from a bakery or something" I found it on the whole foods website and used ghiradelli chocolate and coco powder. it was very easy to make also which i was surprised at. Open Original...

ARCHIVED Scared About Miscarriages Due To Celiac
alamaz replied to Nicole2's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I had my 1st miscarriage in January and shortly there after was diagnosed with celiac disease. I have still been TTC but no luck yet. I'm not freaking out though because I know my body needs time to heal. celiac disease can be a cause of infertility and miscarriages but not the only reason. If you have had several miscarriages your doctor should be at... -
Is there a support group in New Orleans? You can try contacting them to see if they can recommend any one. Also, if any local health food stores have gluten-free groups or group meetings in general they may have a dietician who you can call and they might be a little more enlightened. Also, a lot of chiropratic offices are connected to alternative health...

ARCHIVED Glutino Crackers
alamaz replied to alamaz's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Glutino makes all gluten-free foods so I'm assuming all of the facilities are gluten-free. The flax ones taste like....well, a big handful of flax seeds...... ugh! I'll have too look for the ritz type ones. those sound tasty! -
ARCHIVED Glutino Crackers
alamaz posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
All I have to say is EW! I guess the Glutino Brand gluten-free Cracker Flax (Tomato & Onion flavor) is just not for me..... I'm a little burned out on the rice crips I've been eating. What else is out there? -
Hi! Congrats on your pregnancy! I'm trying for baby #1 so after my celiac diagnosis I went to a nutritionist to help ensure I'm getting the right nutrients. Some of the things she suggests: 1. Avoid peanuts. Studies have showen that if the mother doesn't ingest peanuts during pregnancy there is less of a chance the baby will have a peanut allergy...

Are you keeping a food journal? That helps to remember what you ate over the past few days. Especially when you start adding back in foods. I've been gluten-free since really March 1st. So two months and it's still up and down. I can go two days and be great and then three days not so great. I think I was really sick prior to diagnosis though so I'm...
