  1. My cold-to-the-core symptom went away for good after awhile on the anti-candida diet. Haven't felt it for > a yr & a
  2. Jin, Re: stir-fry - it seems to me that w/ the balance of flavors needed, I'm out of luck w/out being able to use Tamari or rice vinegar or anything fermented. I do use fresh ginger whenever I make my attempts. I *really* want to make a salad dressing like maybe ginger-lime-cilantro but they never turn out as good as my basic oliveOil (no need to state...
  3. Good site Rach - nice concise list. I also dunno about the egg part. I never had a problem w/ them, tho everything else on the "don't" side of an anti-candida list used to make me dizzy or worse. And, to me, the Frequency kHz part is pretty goofy. I've taken far too much physics and materials science to buy into that. To me it makes as much sense as saying...
  4. I swear I've had leftovers' mold affect me after just ONE hour - was having sort of "late seconds" I suppose more than true leftovers. I'm fine w/ stuff I put in the freezer before it's cooled down much tho. I'm all grrrr right now because I don't have an avocado. It would be perfect for a cold-smoked salmon (no brown sugar like regular smoked salm)...
  5. Jin, No no a 1000x no I didn't think u were angry w/ me. I was just making it clear that I know how hard it is. So much denying of food makes ME angry tho. I find myself daydreaming about all sorts of food. It's even sometimes gluten-free!! Almost forgot (ok, did forget - editing post now), I do know exactly what u mean about having to try to keep from...
  6. I've been through all that and sadly much much more while thinking I was doing something helpful eating mostly wheat-free. It didn't start to reverse until I was incredibly vigilantly gluten-free. Maybe you've got some gluten sneaking in. You probably already know, but just in case, there are even toothpastes and lipsticks w/ gluten. Just about every popular...
  7. I spent a couple yrs pretty cold & ~6-9 months incredibly cold way inside at the core all the time. I ended up keeping a thermometer w/in reach so I could see if I could or should turn up the heat. I would never feel warm enough to tell otherwise & and it's not exactly worthwhile to heat a house to 110
  8. 1st off, there are many kinds of ice cream w/ gluten in the fine print. (Not talking the obvious cookies'n'cream) 2nd, martinis et al vary. The cheaper gins or vodkas or vermouths sometimes adjust the proof as a last step, and the way I heard it, it could be w/ a grain alcohol that somehow wasn't fully distilled. I don't know how that makes sense but the...
  9. Erewhon makes my fav cereal - the Rice Krispies knockoff. It uses brown rice syrup for the sweetener, which I can handle far better than the evap cane juice in so many other cereals. So, I for one can vouch for the company.
  10. Just trying to figure out what else might be keeping me from getting well. Still incredibly fatigued from the littlest thing. I've come to accept having to sit down and rest twice just while making a simple freaking salad. And too many days where I can't think. And this and that - we've heard it all before.
  11. I couldn't help but chuckle trying to figure out how to pronounce OVOVIVIPAROUS. Rachel - I wish I COULD remember my acct name but it was at least one computer and two moves ago. I remember Tarnalberry and Richard tho. I think they were very active back then. Seeing the Fauve painting mostly makes me wish *I* could do something like that. Very nice...

    ARCHIVED University Celiac Clinics

My experience w/ an alleged Celiac expert at Stanford was horrible. Was probably 3 yrs ago and still makes my blood boil if I think about it too much. (So I won't write much) It became obvious he was far more interested in getting another research subject than in actually helping me.
  13. Yay Magic Swizzle! Hehe It sounds like something called Thrush, caused by Candida. I think it's supposed to be white(ish?) to be thrush and I'd guess it's hard to see the roof of your mouth. Still I'd look into it.
  14. I would think that intestinal candida was a possibility, but I've never heard of it being as sudden as your symptoms. Not that it couldn't still be a part of it - any long-time celiac sufferer is bound to have collateral damage in the battleground of the gut. One thing that will help is starting a food intake and symptoms diary, if u haven't already. There...
  15. The Hippocratic Oath doesn't actually say this, tho I know we've all seen and heard it quoted as such. One thing it *does* say is "I will not use the knife", which sounds awfully irrelevant in modern medicine. (Uh oh am I being too picky again?)

    ARCHIVED Gi Rant

Omg what a nightmare Dr. At 1st, it seems right to go ahead w/ the biopsy, but I also wonder if he's so ignorant on the basics can he be trusted to properly do and interpret it? Maybe it'd be worthwhile to see if u can get an appt soon w/ another GI - it'd be hard to find one that's worse!
  17. "Prevent" is a little overstated. "Delay" is what I remember from the original research a few yrs ago. In fact, I smoke & I'd give ANYTHING for it to have "prevented" the incredible array of debilitating symptoms I had a few yrs ago before going 100% gluten-free. Since the 1st step to damage to the villi is stripping off the protective mucosal layer...

    ARCHIVED Why Now?

I never heard a good theory as to why, but alternating D & C is very common at the start of a celiac's gluten-free diet. Happened to me. It'll get better. If you've been suffering from celiac's effects for quite awhile, chances are u have other complications like leaky-gut (increased intestinal permeability) and intestinal candida overgrowth. These...
  19. You might want to think about the genetic test even it's also not 100% accurate. Biopsies quite often fail to get the right sample for a positive diagnosis. I've seen ppl say to tell the doc to take 20 samples instead of the usual 10, in order to up the chances of snipping the right spot. And tho it's well known that you'd need to eat gluten for a proper...
  20. I can't help wondering if those that say the H in herb (Brits for sure & whoever else) also say it in heir. Re: "It is not as easy as you think" - I hope I never implied it was easy to be on an all-out anti-candida diet. I did it for almost a yr & a
  21. If u have a good store near u breakfast can be one of many good gluten-free cereals, w/ soymilk or ricemilk. (At least one ricemilk isn't gluten-free tho - I think RiceDream. Not sure whether every soymilk is gluten-free, but I think all I've checked were). I once saw an interview w/ Billy Bob Thornton where he said how much he loves Puffins Honey Rice cereal...
  22. Re: gliadin - did some googling expecting to confirm what I've 'known' (ok, believed) to be true, but ran into an alarming amount of conflicting and outright wrong info. Personally, I'm positive that the truth is that gliadin is a fraction, or component, of wheat gluten only. Barley gluten's comparable fraction (the one harmful to celiacs) is hordein....
  23. Just wanted to make a note that when a celiac writes "Progresso cream of mushroom soup", it's dangerous to substitute for it. Last I checked, Campbell's had 0 or 1 soup(s) that were gluten-free. (And the 1 sure wasn't cream of anything!)
  24. I *knew* there were exceptions to this and finally thought of one. Nobody would say chronology is the study of time, would they? BTW, I'm surprised at how many ppl w/ Candida "feed the beast" . . . . errr yeast.
  25. I'd like to say I'm just short of 'obsessed w/ words', but I might be unequivocally obsessed. Unfortunately it leads to a lot of pet peeves about language - lately it's newspeople on tv saying "an historic". To me it sounds as wrong as saying "an history test", but I swear they say "an" ~5x more than "a". Stupid to have this nonsense bother me, huh? One...
