  1. Hehe I was wondering whether I shoulda mentioned that my handy paperback dictionary was a couple decades old. It doesn't show a 2nd def. But still I think the far more common usage is towards obsession rather than study. Nevertheless I stand corrected.
  2. It seemed like something was wrong w/ the scatology talk so I looked it up in my Webster's. It doesn't mention science. Says "obsession w/ excrement". Just an FYI
  3. LMAO now! Thx - best laugh all day
  4. "RETURN TO NORMAL DIET"???????!! Aaaargghh!!! What a thing to say, with those symptoms! I'd bet u can make the diet provide proper nutrition, tho it may take research. Appalling to me that someone would say "return to normal diet" in this situation.
  5. I used to regularly wake up in the middle of the night due to gut pain. It would go away in maybe 1.5-2hrs, then I could sleep again. This was b4 I'd heard of celiac and WAY b4 the incredibly bad symptoms began. I wish more than anyone could ever wish for anything that I'd had a clue & gone to a good (celiac-wise) Dr back then. Since u already have...
  6. I did one thru York Labs a couple yrs ago (I think they've changed their name since) and it was VERY helpful. Tested ~116 foods and came back w/ yeast. It was what first made me realize I had intestinal candida. I'd been gluten-free 10 months at the time, dairy-free maybe 6 mo, sugar-free for a few and still felt horrible most of the time. The anti-candida...
  7. Just my 2 cents - I'm very sensitive and have never had a problem w/ redbridge, having 1 a few times/wk for months now.
  8. I noticed u didn't mention any meat. My fav now is wild sockeye salmon, broiled to perfection. At first it's hard to not cook it too much, resulting in dry fish w/ not near the flavor. But once I learned that just a few minutes is enough to get it fully cooked yet still a bit wet inside, it became my fav main course by far.
  9. I'm unable to trust anything as the consequences are too great. I'd bring my own stuff in a backpack. Heheh maybe even some redbridge transferred to a . . . .hmmm maybe iced tea labeled bottle? You just never know when a turkey leg marinade/baste secret ingredient's extra ingredient is soy sauce.
  10. Grrr double post again. (I'm doing all my surfing on a phone)
  11. No doubt that it could be celiac. (no S) It'd be best if u could get the blood test ASAP, otherwise they'll need u to eat wheat/gluten (aka make yourself sick) for the test. I'm very sure that just a few days w/out wheat, after a lifetime with, won't invalidate the test. Not so sure about a week or 2. Also, wheat-free is far from gluten-free - even some...
  12. I eat Puffed Millet cereal, found in a bag in the cereal section. Pretty bland by itself but I add cinnamon and toasted almond slices or slivers, then it's pretty tasty. (And yes millet is definitely gluten-free)
  13. Trying to get a dermatologist appt sure makes sense to me. DH = celiac is what I've always heard. And u certainly need to be gluten-free asap. I don't think being on gluten for 5 days for the 1st test was anywhere near long enough for a valid test. Other posts go over some recent research on this, but like everything else in the celiac world I'm sure it...
  14. I've seen a number of articles on gluten & schizophrenia, but can't recall seeing any on bipolar. I suppose it wouldn't surprise me much. They keep learning more and more about what can get thru the blood-brain barrier and what effect wheat's opioid peptides can have.
  15. This seems too wide-open to get many replies. Just about anything can be made gluten-free, w/ the right substitutions. Maybe if u start w/ a certain dish, ppl can help w/ the substitutions.
  16. Oh I agree totally. Surprised gluten-free not mentioned. The New Grist bottle's label says sorghum , rice extract, but I swear the 6pk carrier said more. I remember yeast for one and thought it made it clear that the 4 or 5 ingreds listed were all it had. Now I know I'll be compelled to look closely next time I'm @ the right store. (Loved your prose...
  17. I can't count the # of times I've read of someone w/ negative or inconclusive biopsies ending up being diagnosed celiac by blood/genetic test and eventual positive biopsy. Long ago I read of one long-time poster advising ppl to have the doc get 20 samples instead of the standard 10 just because it's so hit-or-miss. And I must echo the other posters on the...
  18. My Redbridge bottle's label says "made without wheat or barley" on it. (Admittedly not as concise as "gluten-free", but we all know those 2 are the only possible culprits - at least in any beer I've seen - oops except an occasional Oatmeal Stout) And I thought the New Grist 6pk package lists the 4 or 5 ingred, perhaps w/ the word "only". (Wish I hadn't...
  19. Mine's a Vtech w/ 2 handsets, ans mach, and it's great. There's a great site which lists what's on sale for all the stores in a particular state. Not sure what state you're in but for Calif the url is: www.salescircular.com/ca.shtml For Arizona it's www.salescircular.com/az.shtml So just put in your state's abbrev and scroll to Phones. All I did...
  20. Yup I have some of those. Sounds like "leaky-gut-caused-allergies/intolerances" and intestinal candida. I believe nearly all long-time celiac disease sufferers have these. The increased intestinal permeability (leaky-gut) allows partially digested food particles into the bloodstream, where they are seen as foreign invaders and as such are attacked by...
  21. My celiac went "dormant"!! Had much trouble as a toddler - so says Mom, then no problem until ~age 35, I believe triggered by my little brother's sudden tragic death. And as for my 2 cents, I'd put the kids on a gluten-free diet.
  22. Grr double-post.
  23. Maybe things have changed, but a few years ago, the existence of confirmed DH meant definite celiac. Have they found other causes for DH? (not just rashes that seem like DH). If not, a dermatologist's dx for DH is enough to confirm celiac. Also, I firmly believe that nearly all long-time celiac disease sufferers have leaky-gut & intestinal candida...
  24. Yay Portland! For my money there is no more gluten-free-friendly city in the U.S.! I've even heard of little bars w/ gluten-free microbrew on tap, tho it was temporary in the case I'd heard about. (About to run out) I'm sure the link someone else put up will mention this, but ya gotta go to the gluten-free fish place there. There are 2 now - same owners...
  25. 1st one I came upon was Bard's Tale. Such excitement after the years w/out beer. But even tho I've like bitter beers in the past, I found it far more bitter than any decent bitter beer should be. And it was $13 at the local Whole Foods! Redbridge was next and tho I don't love it it's pretty good. Yay! ($8) Then I was surprised to run into New Grist...
