  1. If it was me I would bring my own food in my (large) purse. Its a buffet so whose to know? Just use the plate and utensils they have there.
  2. When I prepare food for potlucks (as I do most every month) I make things that require ladles or tongs such as soup in a large metal pot with a long handled ladle--and salad in a large bowl which also has long tongs. I avoid making or eating things that are finger food. Generally I only eat what I make unless it clearly has no gluten and has not been pawed...
  3. Yay!
  4. Wow that's interesting. Thanks for the heads up. I will tell a friend of mine to be cautious about it. I took L-glutamine for a couple of years but finally went off it when my kidneys started acting up. Before that I liked it however since it seemed to give me more energy. Maybe because its a kind of sugar? I read its supposed to help rejuvenate one's...
  5. Although L-glutamine really can give you extra energy I discovered its not good for folks who tend to have kidney problems or tendencies towards diabetes. Hadn't heard about the yeast thing though with L-glutamine. Is that really true? Pao de arco and garlic plus extra pro biotics with F.O.S. also help against yeast infections--plus reducing sugars...
  6. My understanding is that some emergence-C is gluten free but most isn't. Make sure your other supplements are gluten and other common allergens free too.
  7. So I am wondering if somehow one could mix one's own. I mean, do they have to have oats? Or is making one's own gluten free mix just too expensive?
  8. Is there gluten free bird feed?
  9. I have found the alcohol can definitely be a problem. Much of it is made from grains--especially wheat and barley. Even corn can be suspect since much of it is infected with gluten. I used to use herbal tinctures and pour boiling water over them to get rid of the alcohol part--however the grains remain. It made a big difference for me to go off them--as...
  10. People can be such pigs I agree. However really its based on ignorance. Just don't put yourself in such a vulnerable position. Maybe you should bring your own car. When it starts going down hill say you know, I've got to run! If you had your own car you would have that choice. I agree though new friends are in order. I think in time things will change...
  11. How great! The electricity just went off here in the Los Gatos hills for a while. A little reminder of 3 1/2 days earlier in the year without power. I couldn't handle all the chocolate and sugar goodies, however my mom can and the rest looks great! Just would add a nice propane two burner portable cooker. Plus extra propane tanks. It really helps...
  12. I agree have him checked out again maybe by another eye doctor--and do continue the magnesium. However I have had all kinds of visions and blurriness etc. which only went away after I started taking more absorpable B vitamins. Co-enzyme B's to be exact. I find Country Life to be the best for me since they are tablets without sorbitol--which most of the...
  13. Thanks for your concern Ivanna! I seem to be well on the mend now. The antibiotics combined with my U.T.I. herbs and diet worked. Now I am working on regaining my strength going for walks here in the hills and taking some of my liver cleansing herbs etc. Hope to be strong enough soon to start swimming and using the sauna again at the Y. When I get...
  14. Welcome to celiac.com! You probably are going through withdrawal symptoms. I have had many myself including hot flashes when I was too young to otherwise to have them be menopause. Actually you might be having yeast/candida/fungal withdrawal symptoms if you usually eat either more sugar or starch or both. I did get the hot flash like symptoms and blinding...
  15. What Gluten Gal suggested is good--though be sure with the pasta salad to use gluten free pasta. They sell it at most natural foods stores and Trader Joe's. However what is even better especially while you are healing is to use root vegetables and squashes. Its very easy and cheap. You can cook extra ahead of time maybe at dinner the night before so...
  16. Good for you (about Goodwil). I am in the process of cleaning things out but can't claim being super neat. I am the daughter of two inveterate pack rats and I think I acquired the gene. However it has gotten so it bothers even me. I used to laugh it off but can't any longer. The messy.com is helpful as a nice nagging mother I never had. I am hopeful that...
  17. I justs read in Jax Lowell's Gluten Free Bible that others react similarly if the guy or gal doesn't brush their teeth and floss with plain unwaxed dental floss. What they shower with and the lotion they use etc. matters too--since lovers like to kiss places besides just the mouth. Unbelievable but in my case it seems to be true. I have after all had celiac...
  18. Sounds like I great idea. I will go get some today since sleep problems have resurrected themselves for me. I notice now that taking the co-enzyme B vitamins helps me sleep--but I must take them before I go to bed rather than just after...though I also seem to need the nerve building herb skullcap and the relaxing herb valerian.
  19. Just wanted to add in my (maybe our?) defense--I am much better at figuring out what is essential and what isn't than most. I think it comes from a lifetime of only semi functionality so in order to accomplish anything I needed to ignore the nonessentials to get on with what was really important. Has anyone else here responded like that? Bea
  20. Hey listen, could you tell me some good sources of info about celiac awareness that developed in the UK etc. ? In other words what was done to increase public awareness. We are trying to do something like that here in the states but haven't had a lot of success so far esp. with the medical establishment though also with the public in general. So I thought...
  21. I was just thinking about the constipation issue. I have that too. What I use besides the fresh ground flax (1 tablespoon) with 1/4 tsp. apple pectin added (then mixed in water) is magnesium citrate. Just make sure you don't take too much. If you get loose bowels back off a bit and take a little less. It helps with many functions in the body. I notice it...
  22. Oh wow, what book? Sounds like a good one! Am so glad for your daughter to have such an aware mother! The kissing thing was pretty shocking for me too! I just had no idea. It makes me feel like I have to go around appearing more than a little paranoid. However its better than getting sick! I too was dx'd as an infant (at 4 months old!) but at that time...
  23. Have you tried using freshly ground flax seed? Grind 1 tablespoon in a small coffee grinder with 1/4 tsp. apple pectin. Mix in water, drink then chase with more water. Excellent as fibre. Really does the job without stressing the intestines. Plus gives you Omega 3's. The apple pectin also helps pull out excess toxins that might be hanging out as well as...
  24. I ditto that thought! Structural work is so important--and then self care. Thus the yoga and the tiny tennis ball for pressure point relief when you can't go to the therapist. Bea
  25. You are quite welcome Birdie. I have had so many problems myself that I don't even want to think about it. Amazingly I lucked out and found herbs really saved my life starting as a young adult. I got over major life threatening difficulties with my kidneys as well as the beginnings of skin cancer not to speak of other things related to celiac. Thank you Euell...
