  1. Thank you. I must have misinterpreted a study or something. Thank you for the clarification. Much appreciated. Almost three years into my celiac diagnosis and I'm still learning new things.
  2. So, I've been using a gluten free labeled toothpaste since being diagnosed with celiac. No big deal, the toothpaste seems to work. Question is, I just realized it contains hydrated silica. Now, I've heard that silicon dioxide can cause issues in some people with celiac (was that ever confirmed though?), so to be safe, I cut it out of my diet entirely...
  3. Yes, I was 22 when I was diagnosed via blood test done by my endocrinologist (I'm also type 1 diabetic and have other auto-immune issues). I was surprised because I was asymptomatic at the time, though I will admit that since being gluten free, I have a lot less, in fact almost no, unidentified stomach aches, etc. In general, I have very few food sensitivities...
  4. So, for some, these products can mimic the upset caused by gluten? I would assume these ingredients don't actually cause the same auto-immune reaction as ingesting gluten though, correct? It's just feeling bad, as opposed to actual physical damage? I don't seem to be having any issues with anything I'm eating and I pay no attention to additives (aside...
  5. If this is an issue listed in Portugal, I'm assuming it shouldn't be an issue in the States? I've been careful about checking my medications thru the government informational sites and my doctor wasn't concerned, but just wanting to be sure. (I don't have a soy allergy, so that's not a concern anyway), and the starches were all corn or rice in my meds...
  6. Thank you for this! "Medical" advice, and I use the term loosely, is so rampant and so unproven nowadays (I even have relatives that fall down these rabbit holes and are shocked I don't follow.), so I am skeptical of everything. I appreciate the confirmation of my suspicions that this was more hearsay. Onward with my rice and corn. lol
  7. So, it's been a while since I posted here and I've been doing fine with my diet. Haven't cheated, have gotten used to being gluten-free, and have even created a series of microwaveable, healthy, low cal dishes that take minutes to make because I don't cook and won't be starting to, ever. That said, many of those dishes incorporate rice and corn, not...
  8. I've found a few gluten free labeled coffees by searching on Amazon. I haven't decided if I want to go that route or not. I haven't been liking the taste of my regular coffee anyway, so I'm not against switching to a more specific brand and if I do, I'll probably try to find some labeled as gluten free. Coffee is one of those things I won't give up, honestly...
  9. When it comes to a silent/asymptomatic celiac, what would be the recommendation for cross-reactivity? I can't go by symptom, obviously, and I don't think I have any issues with coffee, dairy, or chocolate, but now I'm paranoid. I'm strict about avoiding gluten but I do not want to give up coffee, it's one of few things I actually enjoy. As long as I don't...
  10. So, little update. I spoke to my hematologist and he isn't concerned. He said if my lymph nodes haven't changed hardly at all in seven months, then that tells him everything is probably okay. He said that I had a lot of work done in my abdominal area, so I should heal from the hysterectomy and talk to him again in a couple months if I have more...
  11. For me, the hysterectomy was technically elective, I'm childfree and wanted to keep it that way. It just so happens that when they went in to do the surgery, they found out the endometriosis was really bad, so in a way, being childfree and wanting to get sterilized was a saving grace for me. I seem to be healing extremely quickly though. I had the surgery...
  12. Wow. I knew vitamin training was limited in medical training, but I had no idea it was that limited. I'm honestly kind of surprised my endocrinologist is as versed in it as she is, but she's a really good doctor and I think she's gone above and beyond most MDs. It's just been a really long, hard year. Started out with the swollen lymph nodes in June...
  13. I am more leery toward eating gluten again, simply because I'm out of the habit now and I don't want to get back into it. I don't feel sick on gluten, but I finally stopped missing it and I'd like to keep it that way, which is why I really don't want to go back to it for the sake of tests. I'll have my dr. keep doing the routine blood tests though and continue...
