ARCHIVED Is This A Gluten Reaction?
Carriefaith replied to wwebby's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sally, I got one of my worst reactions from lays stacks (It was the only suspious thing that I ate that day). I won't go near them ever again! Just stay away! -
I can relate... For about a month or so I got nausea almost everyday for no apparent reason. One time though was a reaction to a lays product. I woke up at 3 in the morning very sick and thought I was going to vomit (I actually gagged), but I took some gluten-free gravol and just can nasty diarrhea instead. I didn't get much sleep that night. But, yes...

ARCHIVED Rapid Heart Rate
Carriefaith replied to mela14's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am THAT sensitive as well. Horrible isn't it...? My only gluten reactions were from contamination and one was sunscreen! My reactions have included nausea, diarrhea, explosive gas, extreme bloating (it looks like I am pregnant), and mild to severe pain in the upper middle stomach region. I get heart palpitations (irregular heatbeats), but I don... -
ARCHIVED Inhaled Gluten Cause Reaction?
Carriefaith replied to SofiEmiMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Inhaling gluten particles could definately cause a reaction, especially with kids since they may make more of a mess (more mess = more floor flying around in the air). Also another important issue to consider would be if your daughter was making gluten cookies/cake with wheat floor, got some on her hands and then wiped her mouth. That would also cause a reaction... -
ARCHIVED Is This A Gluten Reaction?
Carriefaith replied to wwebby's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Lays products almost always make me sick. I don't eat them anymore. I think I fall in the "Individuals who are extremely sensitive may be affected" category. -
ARCHIVED Wondering If...
Carriefaith replied to tmc's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi! Just by reading your symptoms it is very possible that you have celiac disease. I would ask your doctor for a celiac blood test(s) (There's more than one that will help detect celiac, it's probabaly better to get multiple tests done). Hope you feel better soon and I hope you figure out what's wrong. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have Severe Digestion Problems?
Carriefaith replied to Mballerina's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would tell your doctor for sure because you need to get you digestive system digesting again! He/She may do something to help. Digestive enzymes may help, I don't know a lot about them but they may aid in your digesting. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Reaction
Carriefaith replied to Carriefaith's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It can take your body a long time to heal and recover from all the gluten that you ate before going gluten free. Everyone is different, some will feel better in several weeks and others may not feel better for several months or even up to 1 year or 2 years. Personally, I think I am the the "1-2 year category" since I am still having troubles almost... -

ARCHIVED Canadian Celiacs Common Complainants
Carriefaith replied to ResearcheringCeliac's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
What obstacles do people with Celiac disease face? At Work/University - The biggest obstacle is not being able to eat when friends/co-workers go out to eat. I refuse to eat out anymore (unless it's lobster) due to such a high risk of gluten contamination. So when I go out to eat I just order a drink and that's it. I will usually eat before or after I... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Reaction
Carriefaith replied to Carriefaith's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My mom is the same way, except she wants me to go earlier than that! I'm going to be telling my doctor about this since it has almost been a week! I've been wondering that myself. I had skin allergy testing done over a year ago, but the only foods that had a positive were wheat and yeast. I have discovered that I am lactose intolerant. Lactose... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Reaction
Carriefaith replied to Carriefaith's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for your responses! I am still reacting and it has almost been a week! Athough it is getting better. The pain gets really scary sometimes... I would hate to see the reation if I ate a bagel or something! -
Once your intestines completely heal, you should be able to digest sucrose. The enzyme sucrase, which is needed to digest sucrose, is located in the center of the villi in the small intestine. When your villi are damaged because of injesting gluten, then you may have a problem digesting sucrose. Without the enyme sucrase, sucrose goes through the digestive...

ARCHIVED The One Symptom That Won't Go Away
Carriefaith replied to lilliexx's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
minibabe, I find that when I eat any amount of lactose I get extreme gas, bloating, stomach growling, and then diarrhea Not fun. By any amount of lactose I mean even milk chocolate or candy with lactose listed as an ingredient (I am super sensitive)! I avoid gluten and lactose like a plague. Lactose intolerance is common in celiacs. When celiacs... -
ARCHIVED Wheat Free Soy Sauce
Carriefaith replied to rmmadden's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use VH soy sauce in stir fries. When I eat plain rice I use Tamari Soy Sauce "Oriental Ginger" made by LifeSoy. It is very good on plain rice! YUM! The bottle of Tamari Soy Sauce that I have says that it is gluten free, wheat free, non fermented, and has no alcohol added on the label. It also says on the label that it is "Approved for use by individuals... -

I still have gas and stomach growling, but I found it got a lot better after I eliminated lactose. I think the gas a bloating will go away with time. Hopefully -
ARCHIVED Is This A Gluten Reaction?
Carriefaith replied to wwebby's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ha Ha. That is so funny I have a science degree and I still don't understand some of those ingredients! You know it's scary when! I am trying to stay away from flavored chips. Corn chips are the only chips I eat now. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Reaction
Carriefaith posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hey Everyone, I am having what I think is a gluten reation but I am not sure. I think I am reacting to a salad that MAY have been contaminated. It was a bagged salad (Tanimura and Antle Garden Salad) that I had on Monday. Anyway, I have been having severe abdominal pain since the "incident" (and I mean severe). The pain is sometimes unbearable and... -

ARCHIVED Furthing Testing
Carriefaith replied to beach's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You should ask your doctor to get tested for celiac, since your sister has it and because you have a lot of the symptoms. It may be just anxiety but it's better to know for sure. -
also... drink lots and lots of water and take vitamin E supplements. This may help some.

I have very dry skin. When my face gets really dry and flacky, I use a lotion/cream. Maybe try lotions/creams that are designed for the face. They are usually less harsh.

ARCHIVED Raynaud's Syndrome & Celiac
Carriefaith replied to GEF's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Interesting... I don't have Raynaud's Syndrome but I am cold almost all the time. My feet, legs, and hands are the worst. I have to litterally run to a heater to warm up sometimes because I get so cold. It almost feels like my legs/toes/hands are on the verge of frostbite or something And if I get cold from being outside, it takes me forever to warm... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Button Would Be Helpful
Carriefaith replied to YankeeDB's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think that's a great idea! -
I'm sure they would make exceptions for people with serious dietary needs like celiac disease. I mean if we can't eat what they're offering, then they should understand. Take a celiac card and show them and then explain how important it is for your husband to eat his own food. Just a suggestion
