  1. There are a lot of people suffering from cancer... I mean prayer lists at my church and bible studies are growing with more and more people that have cancer. It's really sad. In my opinion, I think that we are lucky in many ways. (1) I mean this disease won't kill us as long as we stick to the diet. (2) We are forced to eat a lot of veggies and fruits and...

    ARCHIVED Sleep

Yes, I get very tired if I've had gluten, I need lots of rest and sleep.
  3. I've noticed that a lot here with some doctors... . Most family doctors are very good at diagnosing things like strep throat, infections, chicken pox, IBS, colds, flus, ect. But the more complicated things like celiac, cancer, lupus, fibromyalgia, ect often get overlooked or misdiagnosed as something else.
  4. The way I see it is that doctors are only human and they will make mistakes and overlook things. They get busy and stressed and unfourtunately we sometimes have to suffer. Also some doctors do not like "suggestions" if you know what I mean. And like Kaiti said, some doctors have not really learned a whole lot about celiac. GI specialists seem to know a lot...
  5. I am kind of confused from your post... So you had an inconclusive biopsy and a + blood test? If you are still having symptoms, you may need more time to heal... Some people need 1-2 years to feel better! and I'm in that category! Being off gluten may give a false-negative result on a blood test. The blood tests look at the antibodies in your...
  6. I totally understand your situation... I have been gluten-free for over 1 year now and I still have problems. Although I was a lot worse about 4 months ago. My doctors say I have IBS in addition to celiac. My GI doc says that celiac disease caused my IBS by making my intestines more sensitive... or something like that. I have narrowed down some of the...
  7. Yeah, I know... I'm from Canada as well... I bet that list is really helpful though! BUT... The Canadian Celiac Association comes out with updated lists. I just got one from the Charlottetown Chapter in PEI. Soooo if you're from Canada and want a list, just contact your local celiac association chapter. I know there is one available on PEI anyway. It...
  8. Are the dinners made by Thai kitchen? They indicate on their website which products are gluten free.
  9. Old El Paso tortilla hard corn shells are gluten-free. Old El Paso will clearly indicate gluten on their labels anyway. I have an awesome recipe for soft shell taco's if you are interested (I can't tell the difference) ummmm!
  10. The key to success is to treat yourself like royalty! You body needs to heal... Get lots of rest and sleep and don't overwork yourself. Also make sure that you are getting your vitamins, in supplements or energy drinks, like boost (I think all boost are gluten-free except chocolate malt). Personally, I got better with lots of time. Within the first ...
  11. ummm those recipes sound good! Here is another one Rice Pasta Salad I don't measure for this, so this is just an estimate and you can use other veggies 5-7 cups dry spiral rice pasta (I use Tinkyada brown rice spirals) 3 tomatoes cut up into small pieces 1.5 cups frozen green beans, heated up in the microwave (or 1 can green beans) 2 cups frozen...
  12. I used to "hide" and only eat my own food, but within the last few months I've been eating out more often and have only had good experiences! but I also understand why some people may be afraid to eat out, espcially when they are first disgnosed. The diet is just so overwhelmling at first! I've made a list of all the places where I've have good experiences...
  13. Thanks Japsnoet! That looks really good!
  14. The last gluten meal I had was the day before the biopsy. It was some pasta dish at a restaurant.
  15. I've read about the banana diet and the old celiac days. It must have been hard to be a celiac back then, there wouldn't have been as much gluten-free as today that's for sure. I think us celiacs have it pretty good these days! We have a lot of options...
  16. and like everyone else said, it's a good idea to stay on gluten to avoid false negative results. (If you indeed have celiac disease that is).
  17. Go gluten crazy right up until the test! I mean it may be the last time you eat it. I went on a gluten binge before my biopsy!
  18. Oh you're lucky! I can get them locally too, they are really quick and convenient! I love the Thai Ginger and Spring Onion bag and bowel soups. mmm so good. I have tried some of the others, but they aren't as good (to me anyway). The hot +sour soup and the Lemongrass and Chili Rice Noodle contain gluten according to their website. All the rest should...
  19. Don't worry... most of us are paranoid as well, or at least I am to a certain extent anyway. Natural flavour must be checked, wheat is sometimes "hidden" under this label. If you are ever unsure about something feel free to ask here on the website or call the company.
  20. ianm is right, this will be tough. I think you are doing the right thing by poiting them in the right direction. Unfortunately, it is ultimately up to them to take your advice or not. Maybe try explaining that although doctors are well educated they are only human and may miss important signs and signals, especially from a disease that is so underdiagnosed...
  21. Once I got heart palpitations really bad for like one week. They were really scary. I went online and read that calcium, magnesium, and potasium help reduce heart palpitations. So... I have been taking a calcium and magnesium supplement, and eating lots of banannas and haven't had them bad since. The only time I really notice them now is if I get super stressed...
  22. I always cook my food on tinfoil when it's on someone elses bbq. I just request that my food is cooked on tinfoil and I offer to help with the cooking to make things less annoying.
  23. Potatoes contain a lot of starch, which may be hard for your GI system to digest right now. When gluten causes intensive damage to the small intestine, the intestine cannot digest certain sugars very well until it heals. These sugars are lactose, sucrose, and maltose. Potatoes and corn have maltose. Just a thought... you could just have intolerances to...
  24. When I am super busy I have to plan and/or cook ahead of time. I also go to university and sometimes I have to spend like 12+ hours there at a time, so I have found ways to cope. My tips: -when you cook, make LOTS of extra food and store the leftovers in the fridge or freezer for lunches and dinners. -For a quick no fuss lunch/dinner I eat instant...
