  1. Glad to hear you are feeling so much better. Many of us can go back to dairy after we have fully healed. If you want to try just going lactose free first hard cheeses like Cheddar and yogurt may be tolerated. If you are going to go with a dairy replacement do avoid Rice Dream as it may say gluten free but it is processed using barley and many of us have reacted...
  2. You might want to start a new thread as we do have quite a few folks from Canada that may know.
  3. Yes and it shows that you are doing a good job of avoiding gluten. The quickness with which the levels can drop are why it is so very important that folks stay on gluten until all testing is done. I hope your levels continue to drop and that you are feeling great soon.
  4. Yea my vet said they can also. It is quite common in Irish Setters but can also affect many other breeds.
  5. Thanks. Hard to believe the kitty Ricki is 16. He was born on my birthday one year. The other is Maggie my beloved little gift from one of the shelters near here. Don't know what I would do without them.
  6. Welcome to the board. You have found a great place for info and support. As to the med the best way to check it to call the company directly. You can usually get contact info by putting the company name in a search engine with the words contact information. That should get you a phone number you can call.
  7. I keep mine on my key ring for my car since I always have my keys with me outside the house. In the house I have a form with all my medical info on the frig. I think I got it from the Office of Aging, or maybe it was the Red Cross. It has a little plastic pouch that I can slip in my purse or pocket if I need to and the pouch has a magnetic strip on the back...
  8. Since you washed it well with hot soapy water I think it should be fine.
  9. I also would return it. There are really gluten free chew toys around. There are hard rubber, some you can even hide treats or pnut butter in, and also ones made of hanks of string that are knotted and more.
  10. That is a bummer but the extra time will give you more time to have positive results from the diet. With positive bloods and an recovery from your symptoms that lead to the testing you should be able to get your 'official' diagnosis. Your regular GP can give you an order for the nutrient levels blood work and have copies sent from the lab to the GI so you...
  11. Any guides are out of date the day they are printed. It is much better to learn the companies you can trust to label gluten clearly like Unilever, Kraft and Conagra. If you have a product, supplement or drug that you are wondering about a search with the name of the item and the word gluten will often bring up the item's gluten-free statis. If it doesn't...
  12. While I am not happy for you have been diagnosed celiac I am happy for you that they caught it early and before you got a signature like mine or many others on the board. At least the GI told you about the positive biopsy and didn't just tell you everything was fine and come back in a year so he could check you again. My DD was told the same thing by...
  13. If your going to have an endo as part of the diagnostic picture then yes you need to keep eating a regular gluten filled diet until then. The choice of whether to go gluten free and skip the endo for diagnosis is up to you. With positive blood work you do need to be gluten free after all testing is done. You could talk to your doctor and ask if he will give...
  14. Have you ruled out other intolerances? For me soy causes a pain like what you describe. Are you eating mostly whole foods and cutting out any CC risk? Have you checked all your supplements and all drugs and toiletries?
  15. Be sure to mention it to the techs before the procedure as your doctor may not think to put gluten and iodine free on the slip for the lab. When I had my CT a bit after diagnosis I was surprised how much easier the contrast was to drink. Much different from the chalky stuff I was used to. They also didn't do the IV contrast because of the iodine issue.
  16. If you are a diagnosed celiac your children need to be screened periodically no matter what your genes are. There are more celiac associated genes than just the 2 they usually look for.
  17. But think of all the $$$$$$ the pharm companies could make off this!!!! Would kind of make up for all the money they lose when we go on the diet. They lost thousands off me alone in the last 9 years since I no longer have to take the 5 different and very expensive meds that I had to take before diagnosis just to get painfully through the day.
  18. I would return it and look for something without wheat. It took some searching but I finally found a good bone for my power chewer that is nylon and rice based. I am sorry I don't remember the name but the bone has a bright blue with nubbies center and that's surrounded by a white bone shape. I need to get another as she really gets upset (literally walks...
  19. You haven't been gluten free for very long and it does take some time to heal. Rerunning the blood to see if your antibodies have dropped is not a bad idea but most doctors will give it six months after diagnosis. Are you still consuming soy and dairy? If you are you may want to drop those for a bit and see if the pain stops. Do make sure that for the small...
  20. Welcome to the board. They may use wheat starch which is considered so refined that it is then gluten free. Glad you finally saw that on the bottle and that the company put it there. Do always check all ingredients on supplements since wheat and barley grass can be in them also. You don't want those. I hope that you are now going to be feeling better soon...
  21. I had negative bloods also but when the second challenge ordered by my GI left me bleeding on the bathroom floor I was given an 'official' diagnosis of celiac. Some here would call me gluten intolerant because of those negative bloods and because I didn't have an endo but my doctors know that gluten for me is a very serious issue. I am celiac and was celiac...
  22. If your blood test was positive you do need the diet. However if you are going to be referred to a GI for a scope you can not go gluten free until that is done. If you are going to the endo go back on gluten today and then the day the biopsies are taken go gluten free.
  23. "Today I went back to my family doctor and I did not share with him the fact that I saw a GI," You need to tell your GP of the test results from the GI if you haven't already and sign a form (if in US) so that your GI can send the records with your diagnosis. Your GP is flat out wrong on the positive blood tests issue but since the GI has already diagnosed...
  24. And even when symptomatic they are told to keep eating gluten until a biopsy is positive....
  25. Why would you want to do that to yourself when your GI has already diagnosed you? Your GI can send a formal notice to your GP that you have celiac if you need to stay with that GP or he can send it to your future new more savvy GP.
