ARCHIVED Which Ingredient Am I Allergic To?
ravenwoodglass replied to hy525's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The sorghum would be the first thing I would eliminate but that is just because my system doesn't tolerate sorghum. It upsets my tummy pretty badly. There are some folks here who don't tolerate tapioca also. You could try a different mix without sorghum and see if it has the same effect. If it still doesn't sit well with you then try eliminating the tapioca... -
ARCHIVED More Questions
ravenwoodglass replied to badgerette's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
For myself it takes about 3 days for a reaction to gluten to hit my gut but some other stuff like joint and muscle pain hit first (along with the neuro issues I have) so I don't think your experience is unusual. -
ARCHIVED Oh Crap. Please Let Me Get Off Easy This Time
ravenwoodglass replied to Poppi's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
What you might want to do to be on the safe side is maybe wear a mask when your feeding them so if that happens again you aren't breathing in the dust through your nose and mouth. Have a great time on your trips and happy birthday to you and your son in advance. -
ARCHIVED Gluten-related Infertility Means Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to mhb's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hopefully the diet will clear things up for you. Since you are still having periods, although with the help of meds, you may have a good chance of things normalizing. You may even find your arthritis goes into remission. That was the most surprising thing for me when I went on the diet as I only expected relief from my gut symptoms. Unfortunately for me it... -
ARCHIVED Why Do I Care If My Doctor Discounts My Experience
ravenwoodglass replied to newgirl11's topic in Doctors
Your reaction to soy sounds just like mine, I get bound up for days. What I did to gain weight, short term but it stayed on, was I would get a bag of Wylde pretzels (Gluten and soy free) and eat one a day(the small ones). This added about 1,000 calories a day to my diet as I would just open the bag in the morning and munch all day while still eating my regular... -
ARCHIVED York Mint Bites
ravenwoodglass replied to Newtoitall's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Have you tried calling the company that makes them? If there isn't a number on the package put the company name with the words contact info in a search engine and their contact info should be findable. -
ARCHIVED Not Sure I Really Want An Answer
ravenwoodglass replied to bartfull's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Please don't blame yourself. There was nothing you could do over and above what you did. You loved her and took care of her the best you could. I don't think the form of leukemia she had would be something that could be a B12 deficiency. Im sorry for your loss. (((((((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) -
ARCHIVED Allergies Are Rampant....
ravenwoodglass replied to gem75's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
For some of us the reaction is delayed. When I did my elimination diet and added wheat back in it was 3 days before I had any GI distress. My Dr at the time said that was not unusual. Not saying for sure that you are going to react but just wanted you to be prepared in case the reaction is delayed. -
ARCHIVED How Many Have Dh, Really?
ravenwoodglass replied to itchy's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
The best medication you can get for DH is avoiding gluten and iodine until the rashes clear. The other option is dapsone, which can be a pretty toxic med. How long have you been gluten free? It can take a long time for the antibodies to clear the skin and you need to be very strict with the diet and very careful about CC to keep new outbreaks from happening... -
I don't know if we develop them or if they were there all along but gluten issues overshadowed them. Unfortunately there are many of us who do have other intolerances. Some are lucky and do have them resolve after we have fully healed.

ARCHIVED Alternative Grain Easiest On Digestion?
ravenwoodglass replied to sreese68's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Buckwheat is my go to especially if I have been glutened. I like that it has a decent amount of protein and for me is easy to digest. Don't know if that will be the case for you. -
ARCHIVED Oh Crap. Please Let Me Get Off Easy This Time
ravenwoodglass replied to Poppi's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Keeping my fingers crossed for you that the reaction isn't too bad. -
ARCHIVED 2011 List Of Safe Alcoholic Drinks
ravenwoodglass replied to lucky97's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Many celiacs are fine with distilled gluten so if you are in that group the whiskey should be fine as would any of the vodkas. If your one of the unlucky few like myself that react to distilled gluten grains then sticking with a potato vodka or something like clear rum (I only go with Bacardi) or tequila would be the better choice. -
ARCHIVED How Long Before You Feel Better
ravenwoodglass replied to micfunky's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It can depend on how severely and how many organs are being affected. I saw great relief in GI issues and migraines pretty quickly, like within 2 weeks but my other issues took quite a bit longer to resolve. Do be very strict with the diet and go with as much whole unprocessed food as you can as that will cut the risk of cross contamination and help you... -
ARCHIVED Allergies Are Rampant....
ravenwoodglass replied to gem75's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The IgG test for celiac antibodies was positive. You may want to ask your doctor for a total IGA but with the IgG being positive it appears you need to be gluten free. -
As someone who has severe neuro issues with gluten I agree with you completely. And I just may change my Medic Alert tag from just celiac to what you suggest. I would hate to be hospitalized and moved to the psych ward because my neuro issues with gluten make me temporarily suicidal or even worse have them give me countless tests I don't need because they...

It could be lactose but it could also be casien, the milk protein. You could ask your doctor for a lactose test or you could try lactose free milk and see if that is better tolerated. If it is lactose intolerance you likely could still eat cheddar or other hard cheeses as those are very low in lactose. Whether this is temporary or not I can't answer. Maybe...

ARCHIVED Can Pain Paills, Percacet Mimic Celiac Symptoms?
ravenwoodglass replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Are you absolutely positive those pills are gluten free? As was mentioned that type of med usually causes C not D. Like the others I am also concerned about your possibly being overmedicated or that you may be having a gluten reaction to these pills combined with the sedative effect of them. It might not be a bad idea to contact your doctor about what is... -
ARCHIVED Abnormal Biopsy Results After 2 Years Gfd?
ravenwoodglass replied to JustAGirl79's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Could you be getting CC'd frequently? That might cause you not to heal fully but might not be enough to cause a positive blood test. It is also possible you have another intolerance that is keeping you from healing fully. Have you tried eliminating soy and or dairy to see if that helps? Also are you checking everything for gluten? Your supplements, any OTC... -
ARCHIVED Is Tomato Ketchup Gluten Free?!
ravenwoodglass replied to Dr. Jasleen Kaur's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Not all are and I don't know about that particular brand. I do know Heinz is safe. I am very sensitive to even small amounts of gluten and do fine with that. -
ARCHIVED It's Starting To Get At Me
ravenwoodglass replied to bartfull's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes it is possible that you may be able to tolerate it again once you have fully healed. After you have had a bit of time symptom free try it in as pure of a form as you can and see if it is tolerated. If you do something like corn chips do make sure that they are not processed in a plant where CC could be getting you instead of the corn. -
ARCHIVED Allergies Are Rampant....
ravenwoodglass replied to gem75's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes your being gluten free before testing can affect the results of the test. Since you have a family member diagnosed with celiac it is quite likely with your symptoms that you do have it also. It is common for celiacs to react more strongly to gluten after removing it from their diet. It is the bodies way of protecting you. IMHO no matter what the test... -
ARCHIVED How Can I Help My Dad?
ravenwoodglass replied to kellythomas's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sorry your Dad is going through all this. It must be awful for him and the family. Have you tried giving him whole foods cut up very small or cooked into a mash (fruits and veggies)? This may not be the case for him but I don't tolerate most of the supplement drinks because of the soy protein in them. It isn't unusual for some of us to be intolerant to both... -
ARCHIVED Balance Issue Ataxia?
ravenwoodglass replied to blueshabooMoon's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yea that falling feeling even when sitting down is scarey and can be one of the first signs for me that I have been glutened. My ataxia was quite advanced by the time I was diagnosed. I was thought for a while to have MS but while I had the white lesions on my MRI they weren't in the right place for MS and my neuro was clueless about them. I got to the point... -
ARCHIVED Allergies Are Rampant....
ravenwoodglass replied to gem75's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
We can have both celiac and true allergies. Your symptoms from the gravy are not unusual for a celiac reaction. Not a bad idea to get allergy testing as well but don't rule out celiac if the blood work comes back negative since you had already dropped gluten before testing.
