ARCHIVED Need Help For A Picky Eater
ravenwoodglass replied to zoogirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I second Udi's plus Grainless Baker for premade. Gluten Free Pantry makes a French Bread Mix that is really good for pizza crusts but I usually use Kinnickinnick premade pizza crusts as they come 4 to a package for about $9. For crackers I like Glutino and the Snyders new gluten-free pretzels are good and a little less pricey than some of the other brands... -

ARCHIVED Celiac And Other Health Problems ?
ravenwoodglass replied to tennisman's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sometimes it can be another intolerance that causes continued problems. Have you tried eliminating soy and dairy to see if they might be an issue? If not that might be a good place to start. It took me years to figure out that soy was an issue for me and that was what was causing me to have continued stomach and joint pain. May not be the case for you but... -
Have you been back eating gluten since your previous test or did you go back to being gluten free? If you are gluten free you need to go back on gluten for a couple of months before any testing is done. As to whether you can get the tests at a Medexpress place give them a call and ask. One option that may be available to you is Enterolab. You may want to...

ARCHIVED Puttin In Work
ravenwoodglass replied to Junot's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Your not by yourself in this. You have us and it sounds like your Mom is on board also. Read as much as you can here and it might help to clue your Mom in on the site if she does a lot of cooking for you. Ask any questions you need to and don't get disheartened if you have some ups and downs at first. It takes a bit of time to heal. It sounds like the diet... -
ARCHIVED Sister Has Every Symptom But Her Dr. Won't Test
ravenwoodglass replied to sydneysmommy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's not easy sometimes. Just ask any of us oldsters who fought for years for a diagnosis. If your sisters doctor won't test her and she can't go to someone different there is the option of her just doing the diet and seeing if it helps. We don't need a doctors permission to be gluten free. One other thing is since you mention she gets rashes she could go... -
ARCHIVED Hate To Ask Again Test Result Questions
ravenwoodglass replied to Kquad's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
For many of us that have celiac gluten is literally an addictive substance. My DS wouldn't eat anything but pasta from the time he tasted it as a toddler and growing up every meal had to include pasta or noodles of some sort. With your daughter being diagnosed you may want to make the whole house gluten free and make sure your son tries the diet strictly... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed And So Happy That I'm Not Crazy
ravenwoodglass replied to Bamberz1977's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome to the board. If you are on any meds at all make sure you check with the maker to be sure they are gluten free. Since celiac can cause depression and anxiety you may eventually find you are able to forgo meds, if you take them. Do not suddenly stop any without the doctors knowledge though. Some of us find a really happy painfree person hiding behind... -
ARCHIVED Confused. Sceptical About Diagnosis.
ravenwoodglass replied to AliSko's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This was very well put. If you have a postive blood test then you definately need to stay on the diet. Some of us have a lessening of symptoms when pregnant, I don't know why. That was definately the case for myself. However having a baby can also excaberate the symptoms after we give birth. For some women childbirth is the trigger for the disease. Doctors... -
ARCHIVED A Source Of Gluten We Didn't Think About
ravenwoodglass replied to bonnie blue's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
What a celiac savvy doctor you have!!!!!!! If only all of them were as smart as this one is. Glad you were able to figure it out with his help and hope your feeling better soon. -
ARCHIVED Low Iron, Almost Normal Hemoglobin, Low B12
ravenwoodglass replied to deesmith's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Can you find another doctor? Sometimes it takes a while to find a good one. You mention having issues with C. Have you considered a possible additional intolerance? What comes to my mind first is soy. If you do consume soy products you could try eliminating them for a bit and see if it helps. When you got the B12 did you get the sublingual tablets or ones... -

ARCHIVED Hate To Ask Again Test Result Questions
ravenwoodglass replied to Kquad's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There can be a link between the Autism spectrum disorders and celiac or gluten intolerance. Some people with autistic or mood issues get a great deal of relief with the diet. Celiac and gluten intolerance can have substantial impact on the brain. Even if testing for celiac is negative it can't hurt to try the diet. Testing for celiac and gluten intolerance... -
ARCHIVED Hi-C Poppin Lemonade? Anyone Know?
ravenwoodglass replied to charliesmom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Barley is the most common of the gluten containing 'natural flavors or coloring' and in the US that does not need to be disclosed as they are not one of the 8 major allergens. Neither does rye but that is not an issue I have ever come across. -
Are you still having daily D? If you are could you have gluten sneaking in somewhere? If you still have D have you eliminated other intolerances? You mention you are a nurse, do you use powdered gloves? If so perhaps try using nonpowdered ones and see if it makes a difference.

ARCHIVED Suboxone (buprenorphine) Sublingual Medication
ravenwoodglass replied to alephknot's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You need to see your doctor or go to a clinic. Good for you that you are seeing that you have this problem but it is not one that you should be selfmedicating for. I am giving you a link to the website, this is a script med and it is illegal for you to have it without a script for it. I know it is hard to go to a doctor for help with this sort of thing but... -
ARCHIVED Your First 3 Weeks..
ravenwoodglass replied to JSegura226's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I hope you have a good experience with the Naturopath. There are many good ones out there, my experience with mine was not so good. Do check and make sure anything they give you is gluten free just like you would with a regular script. Contact the maker don't just take your doctors word for it. Mine glutened me with almost everything he gave me and told me... -
ARCHIVED I'm Back-Help Needed On Gluten Intolerance & Depression
ravenwoodglass replied to Judyin Philly's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Judy, Depression can definately be associated with gluten and when it is we often get no relief from the meds that doctors give us. Since you had been back on gluten for a while you may experience withdrawl which can give us depressive symptoms also so hang in there. Hopefully the cloud will lift soon. For me is was like an overnight sort of thing. I woke... -
ARCHIVED Why Get Tested?
ravenwoodglass replied to Bostonkate's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Even after all the misery of the challenge you could still have a false negative on testing. I am sure you will go back to the diet, strictly after the challenge is over. Your results from the challenge are definately positive. Be aware that it may take some time to recover from your gluten challenge but hopefully you will be feeling much better soon. -
ARCHIVED Hate To Ask Again Test Result Questions
ravenwoodglass replied to Kquad's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
What you do from here is up to you. You don't need a doctors permission to be gluten free. However if you do feel you need a doctors diagnosis to stay compliant with the diet or to encourage others in your family to be tested then go back on gluten and get biopsies done in a couple months. Do be aware that biopsies and blood tests both have false negatives... -
ARCHIVED Why Does Gluten Cause Headaches?
ravenwoodglass replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think it may have something to do with the inflammation. It seems gluten antibodies can inflame just about any organ in the body. Some of us get hit in the joints and muscles, some get liver impact, some get signs of inflammation in kidneys or heart (my heart wall is thickened and the doctors blamed that on the inflammation I had for years) once those antibodies... -
Hi, I am really late replying to this, sorry. I got glutened at my voluteer work last week and have written many replies this week and deleted most of them without posting. I also had brain lesions but my doctor told me "lots of people have them and they are meaningless" after doing a spinal tap and not finding the ususal results for MS in the fluid. Before...

ARCHIVED Your First 3 Weeks..
ravenwoodglass replied to JSegura226's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was close to death, no kidding, when I was finally diagnosed. I took a sublingual B12 and a stress formula B and C. I use Country Life, Now and Wegmans brand vitamins. Recently I have added D3 and K, as well as calcium, magnesium and zinc. It is a good idea to have your doctors check your vitamin and mineral levels. That way you know what you are most... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Suspected But Not Proven
ravenwoodglass replied to Serge's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You did have a positive blood test, that is significant as false negatives are common but not false positives. It would have been best for you not to have gone gluten free until after your biopsy was done as a month back on gluten may not have been long enough. Sometimes the proof is in our response to gluten and for you it appears that it has nasty effects...
