  1. I wasn't tested just for food allergies. I don't remember all he tested for I was too overwhelmed with the comment 'well your not allergic to beech trees' to pay much attention as the nurse rattled off all the reactions. I was thinking I would have to live in a bubble. After the reaction to my skin tests the allergist immediately, as in that day, put me on...
  2. That's good. There are so many false negatives that 'devouring gluten like crazy' may make you feel like crud but it will give a better chance at an accurate test. I hope your done with testing soon so you can get started on a strict trial and hopefully feel better.
  3. Keep hoping and healing. I have been able to add dairy back in with no ill effects and it does make life easier. When you do decide to try dairy again start with stuff like cheddar cheese and yogurt, those are pretty much lactose free and will be the first that are likely to be tolerated if you don't have a casien intolerance.
  4. Yes if things are wonky with the liver and pancreas they can heal in time. If you are still seeing undigested food in your stool some digestive enzymes might be helpful for the short term. Do you have a diagnosed anxiety disorder? The reason I ask is because all too often doctors will blame symptoms on anxiety or depression and hand us a pill for it. Gluten...
  5. Glad to hear the appointment went well. If you have been gluten light please let the doctor know as that will cause a false negative on the testing. I would call and ask if they want you to go back on gluten until the testing is finished. Dropping or limiting dairy might be a good idea if it is causing you distress but please don't drop gluten until your...
  6. I agree with it. I was in that position myself when allergy testing showed me reacting to 98 out of 99 things tested for. Within six or so months gluten free most of those other allergies had resolved. It does sound like the flu was likely a trigger event for him. I hope he improves quickly on the diet. You will want to limit dairy for a bit also as until...
  7. Some of the ingredients in that type of product can stress some of the organs. If you unknowingly have issues with say your pancreas or liver the herbs/drugs in these with continued use can aggravate those problems. IMHO if you are having to use these products on a regular basis you may be medicating issues you either don't have to begin with or another condition...
  8. Welcome to the board. Make sure the both you and Dad get checked yourselves if you haven't already. There are some good gluten free baked goods out there. Udi's, Kinnickinnick, and Grainless Baker come to mind first for ready made. Gluten Free Pantry makes some great mixes and Betty Crocker has come out with gluten free cakes, brownies and chocolate chip...
  9. Yes IV fluids are gluten free. Call your doctor as you may have something other than a glutening going on. If you have been doing a lot of OTC candida remedies make sure you let him know exactly what you have been taking and how much. If you still have the packaging bring it with you. Your system may not like them and you may have a drug adverse reaction...
  10. If you like Buckwheat try the Pocono brand. Not only is the plant dedicated it is in the town where it is grown and the fields are dedicated also. Not much of a CC chance with that brand.
  11. If your eyes seem 'sunken' and if when you pinch up a bit of skin on the back of your hand or arm and then let go the skin does not go down (unless your elderly) you should call your doctor and see if you can get some IV fluids. They can give you these in the office if it is needed. If you still have active severe D after this length of time you should be...
  12. Yes you could have been glutened even if you have only been gluten free for a couple weeks. When I did my doctor assisted elimination diet I started challenging foods in after 2 weeks. Gluten was the second thing I added back in and my reaction was severe. Often after a couple weeks gluten free your reactions may be even more severe than when you were eating...
  13. I don't know if any are a gluten concern but I just use the unflavored ones.
  14. If you hit reply in the post it will include the post as a quote. If you hit the add reply under the post you won't have the quote. The warn is something only you can see and don't be disturbed by it. If you get a warning, for example for posting in a rude manner or for advertising your own business in a post, the mods will contact you and tell you what you...
  15. How long has she had D? Has she had an endo and testing for celiac? If she has go ahead and to a trial of the diet. If she hasn't had testing for celiac keep her on gluten until that is done. False negatives are even more common in children than in adults so when testing is done a strict trial is advised.
  16. I really hope when he said he took 'a' biopsy that doesn't mean he only took one sample. They should take at least 6 from different areas. Since the villi need to be viewed through a microscope everything can appear normal but you can still have a positive biopsy. If you have had the blood work done already you can now start a trial of the diet. You don't...
  17. Enterolab can do testing for the antibodies but they don't diagnose celiac. However your body doesn't make antibodies to something it wants inside it. The best test in my opinion is the diet after all blood work and biopsies are done. Gene testing while interesting can not tell you for sure if you do or don't have celaic. For one thing most companies only...
  18. You have had your biopsy and if you have had blood work done you can give the diet a good try now. As to celiac D always giving people bad cramps well for the first 7 or 8 years when my D was a daily occurance it was painless. For me this was a real issue because it could strike with no warning at all. Later on the horrible pain did develop. Going on the...
  19. I have a wedding coming up next month. The affair is catered and what I did was get the name of the caterer and contacted them. I also wrote gluten-free dinner on my RSVP when I sent it in. Do talk to the bride and get the name from her. Let her know that you will contact them yourself and not to worry about it. If the caterer can not accomodate you simply...
  20. What kind of antifungals were you taking? Did you get them from a doctor? If you did call the doctor and tell them what is going on. For me that sounds like a gluten reaction but everyone is different. Eat very blandly right now and if stuff doesn't calm down really soon you may want to get a stool test done to make sure that you haven't picked up food...
  21. As long as you are washing your fruits and veggies you should be fine. Both stores that I shop at have their produce near to the bakery and I do avoid buying cut up ready to eat items just in case. I had been getting mystery glutenings from one but it turned out to be that the employees ate lunch using the giant cutting board as a table in that store. I quit...
  22. I had problems with salad also. I didn't give them up I just dropped the lettuce. I would make a salad with peeled cukes, zuccinni, carrots and tomatoes instead. Also if you are new to the diet the cheese may be an issue or the raw veggies could be a problem to if you haven't healed enough as raw veggies can be a bit hard to digest. You could also try having...
  23. There are false negatives on both the blood and biopsy. With the biopsy you have over 22 ft of small intestine and the damage can be spotty and be in an area the scope can't reach or an uneffected area can be biopsied. Also some doctors don't recognize the changes that precede total villi destruction and will report to the patient that the results were negative...
  24. It does appear to be a positive test since the maker states that any line no matter how faint is positive. Hopefully your doctor will at least do a blood test on you. If he doesn't agree to test you could try a different doctor or you could give the diet a good strict try. Do not go gluten free or gluten light until all your testing is done.
  25. I agree with the others. Do not rush into the hysterectomy, they can not be reversed. Give the diet a while to help you heal and absorb iron and to let your hormones stabelize. Did you tell your OB/GYN that you are a diagnosed celiac? That might change his mind about rushing into the surgery. It is a well known medical fact that celiac undiagnosed impact...
