  1. You might want to go with a stress B & C combo which will have higher levels than a B complex. How long ago were you using the Minoxidil? I could be wrong but I think I read that once you start to use that if it helps you have to keep using it. If you stop the hair loss will return. Is the specialist a dermatologist? If not an appointment with one...
  2. You can still have pizza it just has to be gluten free. I had a Freshetta one last night. There are some companies that make gluten-free pizza that is dairy free also if you are avoiding dairy. I hope all goes well with the psychologist. Do be sure to mention the panic attacks and don't downplay how stong they are. I found a very low dose of Alprazolam...
  3. I stopped feeling hunger years ago because of my reactions to food. I often refer to the effect as 'Pavlos dog in reverse'. I have been gluten free now for over 13 years and that effect is still with me even though the anxiety about eating has cleared a bit. I am still very anxious and can have a panic attack if I have to eat out away from home though.
  4. I don't think you need both parents permission to have the tests done. If the tests do show celiac you may need to have him meet with her doctor to stress the importance of being strict with the diet. If she is having symptoms I would definately listen to the doctor and not him as far as the need to test is concerned as celiac can impact brain function which...
  5. Why do they think that would effect testing? Maybe they read somewhere that testing is impacted by steroids like prednisone and think that applies to antibiotics also? If showing the doctors statement in writing doesn't ease their fears then as was suggested just wait until strep is done.
  6. Tried their pizza shells once and they were very good. They put soy flour is so much stuff which cuts out almost their whole line that we have locally since I don't tolerate soy flour.
  7. You now know that something that was a vital part of your life was making you very ill. I think some degree of anxiety when we are exposed to something that is poison is pretty normal. It's the fight or flight mechanism triggering to something your brain is registering as danger. The severity of your anxiety should resolve the longer you are gluten reaction...
  8. This must be such a scarey time for your family. Have they ruled out kidney or liver failure or a pnacreatic issue? Those are the only things that I can think of that hasn't already been mentioned. I hope they get this figured out soon and he recovers quickly.
  9. Karen thank you so much for posting this information. It is very helpful for those of us who can and want to help fellow celiacs survive during this horrible weather crisis.
  10. Does anyone know any way the celiac community can help those of us that are having to sleep in and eat in shelters? Any organizations sending safe ready to eat foods that might need a contribution? Any organizations like the Red Cross helping that we can get in contact with etc... My heart aches thinking of folks like us having to deal with all the trauma...
  11. I agree. So much suffering for the people trapped and I can't imagine the worry of the folks that evacuated about what they wil see when they return. Boats and helicopters are the only way to rescue at this point.
  12. Haven't checked the news yet this morning but this storm have been a devestating one. Hope the rain stops soon and that loss of life is minimal. Please stay safe all.
  13. You may want to go at a slow time and ask to see the ingredients or talk to the manager and see who makes it and give them a call. I would think it would be safe but best to be sure.
  14. My favorite bread is from Grainless Baker and is tapioca based. They make a great french bread style loaf. I find it is the only bread that improves with microwaving from frozen. Makes a great cheeseburger sub. I used Chebe bread a lot at diagnosis. Lots of good additions to the basic mix. For rolls I would use a leavening agent, can't remember if I usd...
  15. That's great news. Good they know to retest if any symptoms pop up down the line. If and when they do develop celiac they will have you to help them with the ins and out of staying safe. Hope you are healing well and feeling better.
  16. Do you have rashes anywhere? I ask because I have DH and gluten gives me blisters on it's way out. Although DH lesions tend to take a while to heal. You may want to consider asking your GP for a Celiac panel. Keep eating gluten until you are done testing. It could be a coincidence that your abcess cleared up while not eating gluten and came back when...
  17. Yes it does. It is drinkable but definately not a great beer. When I can afford to spend $8 on one bottle I get Greens. Thankfully I'm not much of a drinker.
  18. Praying there is no loss of life with this storm. Hope all in it's path stay safe.
  19. I was the same with cake. We would still have it on birthdays and my twin brother would scarf it down but I would eat the candles. Mom thought I was kind of weird but cake just didn't sit good with me. I was also the only one who ever went to mass and took communion. I thought the lightheaded slightly off balance feeling I got was some part of the spiritual...
  20. Ennis gives some excellent advice. As to the dating issue I have seen dating sites for folks with Celiac and even for people with Aspergers. I don't know how active those sites would be but maybe those would be helpful in finding freinds with the same problems that we have.
  21. Your regular GP can start the ball rolling by doing a Celiac panel and referring you to a dermatologist. Taking steroids will effect the results of testing for celiac so if you have taken then recently let the doctor know. Keep eating gluten until all testing is finished for celiac. Make sure the derm knows how to biopsy for DH. The sample needs to be taken...
  22. I kept all my cookbooks. You could get a clear stiff piece of plastic to put over the open pages and then just wash your hands before you start cooking if you are really worried about it. i used to cook professionally so I have the habit of washing my hands repeatedly while cooking so I have never been concerned about CC from mine. I can see how it might...
  23. Sorry this has happened. I find a couple things helpful when I have been glutened. If I have stomach pain I will take Pepto Bismal liquid. Intestinal pain for me is relieved once the D is over but before I was diagnosed I found a heating pad to sometimes help a bit. I also get joint and muscle pain so I take an anti-inflammatory like asprin or Aleve. Hot...
  24. I get the suicidal ideation for a day but the anxiety, muddled thoughts and lethargy last me up to a month. I don't think that is uncommon in us folks that get neuro impact. Going out to eat or eating at other peoples homes can be really tough. I bring safe food with me if I am going to be out of my home at meal times or will throughly research safe...
  25. I can identify with this. When glutened I spend 24 hours suicidal but it is gone the next day when I wake up. Knowing this helps me cope with that effect. I am like a different person under a gluten cloud, trouble thinking, scattered and forget and overly emotional. Then it lifts as the antibodies wear off. It helps me to know it is the gluten and it will...
