  1. Your post literally brought tears to my eyes. I am so sorry that you have had to deal with this. You do need to go back on wheat for testing if you need to have testing done. There is a lot of naturally gluten free food, you don't have to eat expensively. Eggs, fruits, nuts, fresh meats, potatoes and rice are all naturally gluten free. Check your cupboards...
  2. I didn't either till I got really sick doing drywall work and then checked a website that gave the ingredients. Wallpaper paste was another one that got me. Even stuff like white glue and playdough can be a problem. I play it safe when doing crafts or home repair now by wearing gloves and a mask and washing up really good when I am done.
  3. Either find a different doctor or ask for a second opinion from a GI or another doctor if you really like the one you have now. If you are female sometimes your OB/GYN might agree to order the panel for you. If you can be compliant without a formal diagnosis you don't need a doctors permission to be gluten free.
  4. Gluten isn't thought to penetrate intact skin but it is absorbed by mucous membranes and residues left on your hands or transfered to your hands and then to the mouth or nose etc. can be an issue. Also airborne gluten, like in sanding drywall compound or someone baking with wheat flour gets inhaled and can go into your system.
  5. Yes it is a good idea to make sure that your toiletries are gluten-free. Garneir, Dove and Suave will clearly list gluten ingredients. If you like organic products Giovanni clearly lists and Burts Bees. There are of course others but those are the ones that come to my mind first off.
  6. I am glad she is being seen soon. Make sure you keep her on gluten until all testing is done. After the tests do give the diet a good strict try for everyone.
  7. Celiac usually has a triggering event, an illness or a physical or mental stress that brings it on. It is also very underdiagnosed so there may very well be celiacs in your family that haven't been diagnosed. Even if the test results are negative you should try the diet after all testing is over. False negatives are not uncommon at all.
  8. That is quite possible, did they do a total IGA? Also if you are going to do more testing you need to keep her on gluten. If you are not going to biopsy then go ahead and get her on the diet strictly but keep in mind that when she gets to the GI any tests he does will be negative if she is on the diet already. Also with those positive results it is a good...
  9. As my Mom used to say 'Some folks don't have the sense God gave a turnip' These folks are killing themselves slowly and make it harder for those of us who are as strict as we need to be.
  10. There was a post or two quite recently but I neglected to bookmark them. I will see if I can find them and if I can I will post.
  11. Thanks again everyone. I wish I could explain to her son. He has been yelling for her all day now.
  12. You may have orthostatic (I think that's the right word) low blood pressure, your doctor can check for this by taking your blood pressure while your sitting and then again when you stand. This can make you really dizzy when you first stand up. I had it for years along with really low blood pressure. I had to stand very slowly from a sit or a squat. It resolved...
  13. I would let my doctor know about this. It could be reflux or GERD. Until you get things sorted out try elevating the head of your bed, use bricks or such under the head, and your doing the right thing not to eat anything within a short time of laying down.
  14. There are many more genes associated with celiac than are usually tested for. If you are feeling better on the diet please do stick with it. It is very possible to have celiac without DQ2 or DQ8 but most doctors here are not up to date with that.
  15. I do wish you had your ped run the celiac panel at the least before you took him off gluten. Gluten intolerance and celiac are autoimmune related and will not show up in allergy tests. Although some of course do have true allergies to wheat. He needs to go back on gluten for at least 6 weeks to 2 months for any chance of accurate testing. Even then there...
  16. You did check with the maker to make sure they are all gluten-free right? Also talk to your pharmacist about how they are interacting with each other and what you might expect.
  17. I'm glad your doctor was wise enough to test you. Do be aware that you should not go gluten free until all testing is done and many times doctors will send you for an endo to check your intestinal villi. After the endo, if you are having one, is done then do try the diet as false negatives with blood tests and endo are higher than we would like.
  18. well the dr just took my blood and tested it for iga's or something and the ones that were high i have an intolerance too. she also told me that i may have a high intolerance to wheat and since i kept eating it i became intolerant to a lot of other things-- like gluten, dairy, and even a little of strawberries. so i am hoping by cutting out gluten my other...
  19. Gluten is addictive to many of us. You have to try and keep a supply of safe goodies for when the temptation gets to you. I don't know how old you are but if you are old enough moving into your own place may help. Can you talk to your Mom, if your not old enough to move yet, and stress to her how much you love her and need for her to stop poisoning herself...

    ARCHIVED Go Ask Connie

Connie I hope he has given you the Xanax to replace the Valium not to take at the same time. Also be sure to get the generic form on the Xanax as the name brand is not gluten free. The same opposite is the case with the Valium so if you have been taking the generic Valium you haven't been gluten free.
  21. Glad you got the oven replaced. I couldn't live without mine. Those teens of yours may balk at first about learning to and having to cook but they will be thankful in their later years.
  22. Your thinking of dairy products. If he is not gluten sensitive a gluten challenge will not make him ill. It only makes those who make antibodies sick. A gluten challenge is when someone who has given up gluten needs to be tested as the body stops making antibodies after we go gluten free and the antibodies are what they are looking for in the blood. If he...
  23. Please don't risk the store bought roasters. Buy fresh and get a crock pot or have one of the teens put the seasoned one you left in the fridge in the oven an hour before you get home. I hope you are feeling better soon.
  24. Thank you everyone for your kind words. And thank you for the copy of Rainbow Bridge. I had read it before and will print it out and keep it. I do believe I shall see her and LD again, along with a few others. My arms will be quite full when I cross that bridge. I just hope when my time comes I can go as peacefully as she did, purring the whole time. Having...
  25. Until 6 pm today my best freind, Lexi, was always by my side whenever I was at home. She may have had 4 legs and only wieghed ten pounds but she had a heart as big as all outdoors. I got her when she was about 4 weeks old and she was just a tiny little bit of black fur with no tail. She loved tomato sauce and once when young got her head caught in a jar...
