  1. You will be okay with the surgery. They will have an anesthesiologist there who will be alert for any problems. I was put under for dental surgery many, many years ago and wish they would do it again for all the work I need to have done now. It is not selfish to be okay with the idea of death but the people who are getting pissed at you because you are...
  2. I would get the test done first and then if it is positive ask folks what methods they used to bring those levels down.
  3. The test result measures the amount of antibodies in your bloodstream. It should go down after you have been gluten free for a while. I think it can take awhile though. Doctors usually test after about 6 months but some do it sooner and some later.
  4. How are you with soy? I haven't eaten these in a while because I don't handle soy in any form other than lecithin. I had problems with them but it wasn't gluten it was the soy. Also do you have issues with dairy? That might cause problems too.
  5. I would advise that you go back to the diet after the endo is done. Do ask you doctor to take at least 6 biopsies of various areas. You don't need to wait for the results to go back to the diet. The fact that your GI symptoms improved so quickly gluten-free is a strong indication that you need to be on the diet. As far as triggers go, my celiac was first...
  6. The following link should give you a good idea what it is, the college is a really good one by the way if you are looking for a school Open Original Shared Link I would combine that with studies in nutrition. A kinesiologist could be very helpful for those of us who have had neuro effects from gluten that affect movement. Becoming a RD or Nutritionist...
  7. It would also be a good idea to see if you might qualify for food stamps. You do not have to be unemployed or on social services. It is dependant on your income, family size etc. It doesn't hurt to look into it.
  8. They should do a celiac panel along with vitamin, mineral and iron levels if they haven't already and they also should do an endoscopy in addition to the colonoscopy. If they are still saying everything is 'inconclusive' you can also do a trial of the diet, strictly for a couple of months and see if that helps.
  9. Actually false postives are very rare, false negatives however are common on both blood test and biopsy. No matter what the test results are a strict trial of the gluten free diet should be done after all testing is finished even if the results are thought to be negative. Also doctors tend to think the diet is much worse than it is in reality. It does...
  10. For many years my primary symptoms were the ones you listed with the exception that I also had the skin form of celiac, DH and something called gluten ataxia which is where you are always offbalance. It wasn't until after my children were born that the GI issues became more than just an occasional annoyance. Do ask your doctor for a blood test if you suspect...
  11. For myself that burbling is a symtom that I have been glutened. The gluten free diet is not something that you can do 'sort of'. It needs to be strict otherwise the antibodies will remain active. You do need to check your all meds and supplements, both OTC and script, makeup, toiletries, be careful of cross contamination, replace any porous kitchen tools...
  12. While a colonscopy prep is unpleasent the test itself is not bad. For one thing most are under some form of sedation when it is done. I did have a bad reaction once to a prep that I turned out to be allergic to and was reluctant to do one again. However with celiac the chances of a cancer of the intestines is higher than for the regular population. I...
  13. How did your appointment go? I hope the new doctor was at least a bit more knowledgeable about celiac and that all went well.
  14. Me too, unfortunately for me it continues for up to three weeks.
  15. I would look for vitamins that state they are gluten free on the label. That said do make sure they don't contain anything like wheat or barley grass, read the ingredients. If you have Country Life vitamins available in your area they are one brand to look for. Now brand is another good for labeling in my experience. If you live in an area that has a...
  16. Iodine can be an issue for those of us that have DH. Do you have any rashes? If you do until you are fully healed you should avoid iodine in salt and other foods.
  17. While this may not be considered a 'celiac' symptom it is not uncommon for celiac to impact kidney function. This would be even more likely if protein is also found in the urinalysis.
  18. Do keep in mind that for many in the beginning of this disease constipation can be seen rather than D. I am not sure but suspect that the body tries to draw all the nutrients it can out of the food and overpulls the fluid in that attempt. As stated three weeks gluten free may have been long enough for his vilii to heal, I can't remember where I read it...
  19. What is much more likely as far as the eyes and face is concerned, especially if you experience other glutened symptoms, is that the gluten containing ingredients are coming into contact with your mucous membranes. In all that can include the eyes and nose and in females bathing in or with gluten can introduce it into the mucous membranes in the vagina....
  20. This can perhaps explain better than I. If you google enamel defects and celiac lots will come up. Open Original Shared Link
  21. Corn also has a gluten component but that is not a gluten that we are sensitive to. Corn gluten is safe, as long as you are not sensitive to corn. This confusion is why I always ask if an item contains wheat, rye, barley or oats or any of their chemical derivities rather than asking if something is gluten free.
  22. Tocopheryl can come from more than one souce. Yes wheat is one of those sources but so is soy. It can also be chemically derived in which case you will see D-tocopheryl. That is the one I look for as I can't do soy either.
  23. Yes. In addition some of us will have gum inflammation and the weakened enamel leads to more cavities which can cause some of us to have more fillings than teeth by the time we are into adulthood. One caution though, be careful about using toothpastes for 'sensitive' teeth or ones that build enamel. Do check and make absolutely certain that the one you...
  24. Jason, What you are saying here is a strong indication that you are slipping or into clinical depression. You could really benefit from talking to a counselor or therapist. It is not a sign of weakness to seek some help with this and seeing a couselor does not mean that you have to take psychotropic drugs. They will be able to help you develop some coping...
  25. The only items that I saw that I think could be risky would be the ones I bolded. Those you should contact the maker on to be sure, unless they are of the shell your own variety. If they are oil roasted they are likely safe but dry roasted ones with flavoring added can be an issue.
