  1. Your 3 days later for the worst (for me that means the D part of my reaction) is spot on. I was diagnosed with the aid of a physican formulated elimination diet. He had me add foods in for week because the gluten reaction can take that long to rear it's ugly head. For me I have my neuro symptoms return within a day but the gut reaction takes the same time...
  2. Really good advice. The newer pressure cookers are better than the ones we had many years ago so do get a new one rather than a 'hand-me-down. When I was a chef we did everything from scratch and I used a pressure cooker for the beans for my refried beans. I got busy with something else in the kitchen and all of a sudden there was a big BOOM and cooked...
  3. I am going to through in one more possibility here. I have reacted very badly to BRM's cornbread mix and also to Enjoy life cookies (those are made in a dedicated plant so little risk of CC with them). For me the issue may not have been a CC reaction but a reaction to sorgum (sp?) flour. In my case this was borne out by bad effects from other products...
  4. Hi Jennifer, I just wanted to explain why you couldn't PM Bea. The board had been getting spammed a lot not too long ago. As a result the board now requires new members to have a certain number of posts before they can contact someone through private messages. I think that number is 15 posts but am not sure. I am glad you were able to get into contact...
  5. You can either push your doctor to refer you for an endoscopy or you can simply start the diet. With fibro and 'IBS' and the thyroid issues and the postive test result for celiac I would think that you will feel like a new person after you have been on the diet for a bit. If you are going to push for an endo, which can have a false negative, then you do...
  6. I can't tell you specifically what the tests mean but I do know that when they say positive and out of range the tests results were very high. Hopefully someone else will chime in with a more technical response.
  7. One thing that hasn't been mentioned yet - do you wear any lip glosses, lip sticks, makeup etc that may contain gluten ingredients? Also do you still eat gluten and if you do are you making sure to brush your teeth before kissing? Those would be sources of CC for him.
  8. Could you be getting CC'd somehow? Did you add in any supplements or any new foods or 'energy' drinks when you started working out?
  9. Is the chicken you buy fresh and totally unprocessed with no broth added? If not try that instead of what you have been buying. The broth that is used in some chicken is not safe. As to the cigs question. I am unfortunately a long time smoker. I stick with a brand called American Spirit that is additive free or in a pinch I will buy Winstons which...
  10. Many of us have other things in combination with celiac. Overstressing the body could perhaps cause a flareup of something else. For me over doing physical activity or getting overtired can cause my fibro and/or arthritis to flare but it doesn't cause the GI and neuro symptoms that I get with a glutening. Perhaps that is what is going on.
  11. Smirnoff Ice is a malt liquor, at least in the US. It is not safe.
  12. We were both posting at the same time. I must say you worded your response much better than I.
  13. I certainly don't object if they give the items that are specifically labeled gluten free to other folks that are hungry. If they run out of regular pasta then giving the gluten free items I donate to those that want them is fine with me. What I donate the most when I can is pet food and I don't donate anything I cannot eat with the exception of items that...
  14. If the idea of doing a gluten challenge makes you cringe then I would say yes go right to Enterolab. They can do a stool test for the antibodies and while they cannot diagnose celiac they can tell you if you are making antibodies for up to a year after you have gone gluten free. They can also test for antibodies to soy, egg and yeast as well as testing...
  15. Welcome. Feel free to post a reply to any questions you feel you can help with. There are lots of folks who are new to this and there is certainly plenty of opportunity for you to help people right here on the forum. By answering people here rather than having them email you privately it gives the people who may read but not ask the answers they may need...
  16. Really really good point, I hope you don't mind my correcting your spelling to make it easier for her to find, it is Cymbalta and here is a link to the conversation referred to https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.php?showtopic=60639 Just in case the link doesn't work it is on the current page under 'Gluten Intolerance and Behavior' If you do...
  17. If you want to be generous and donate in a way that will for sure help those in the celiac community how about instead of spending your time researching and looking for 'problems' in the organizations you instead take that cash, go to the store, pick up gluten free items and deliver them to your local food bank. You won't be stressing yourself out and mud...
  18. This is a tough one, not trying to answer it but what I think he is going to say. I would expect he is going to want you to go back on gluten for testing. Whether your insurance company will want to pay for genetic testing is a good question. Insurance companies can be real tough to deal with. They may want to see a blood test and biopsy done first. ...
  19. One thing that always has to be kept in mind with young children and testing is that they have an even higher rate of false negatives on blood tests than adults do. False postive rates are very rare. If she has a positive test she likely has an issue with gluten. Until better testing is available in this country sometimes dietary response is a very important...
  20. Hi and welcome, sorry it took so long for a response to your post. Hopefully you have been reading here and now know that yes celiac can have detrimental effects on your thyroid. Now on to the most important thing. It used to be thought that children would outgrow celiac. They now know that is not a case. Do be aware that if you are already gluten free...
  21. Thank goodness the scope results were good. I also get bleeding but only when I am glutened, thankfully, as that is scarey enough. Hopefully once you have healed a bit more the bleeding will be a thing of the past. Do make sure any meds they gave you for the IC, if any, are safe. I am also sure you will be proactive in getting your scopes done at the...
  22. I am so glad this has turned out well for you. I was appalled at what they were trying to do to you. When my DD entered college in Mass in 2004 not only did they excempt her from the meal plan they even put her in senior housing so she would have her own kitchenette. Silly me thought all colleges would be as accomodating. You showed a lot of strength...
  23. I would also give sublingual B12 a try. If you have been taking supplements with folate that can cause a false higher reading on the B12. Also for many of us the low normal limits that are gone by with B12 testing are too low and supplementation is needed.
  24. Distilled gluten grains are safe for most celiacs. However some of us do have a gluten reaction from them. I am one of them and there are a few others on the board who do also. If you have been drinking Stoli and not having any issues then it is safe for you. If you have lingering symptoms you may want to discontinue drinking it until you are feeling...
  25. I agree with previous poster. The CC risk is high, in additon if there is barley malt used in 'natural flavorings it does not need to be disclosed.
