ARCHIVED Can't Get A Diagnosis! Frustrated!
ravenwoodglass replied to nu-to-no-glu's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I just wanted to add that I checked my bread to be absolutely sure and the Kinnickinnick White sandwich and the Italian and the Pizza Shells are all fructose free. They are actually a pretty good bread, the only brand I will eat with just butter. I use corn tortillas also often but nothing beats a PB&J some days. -
ARCHIVED Newbie - Celiac Symptoms?
ravenwoodglass replied to zsf86's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi and welcome to the board. It is shocking when we realize all the problems that can come from gluten. When I was diagnosed I was just happy the horrible, painful daily and nightly D was gone. When my doctor said alot of my other issues would improve I frankly didn't believe him. While none of us really want to be celiac the diagnosis can make for miraculous... -
ARCHIVED Newbie - Celiac Symptoms?
ravenwoodglass replied to zsf86's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
"After reading things on the net it seems i have so many celiac symptoms. Could i still be celiac although the blood test was negative? Does anyone know if hypothyroidism, malabsorption and celiacs can be connected? Or am I just going mad? Surely puttling me on all these supplements will increase my levels of these vitamins etc but there must be an underlying... -
It does seem some of us are more sensitive than others. I don't know if it might have something to do with what genes you carry or the amount of damage that you had and the number of systems effected or perhaps some of us react to more than just the gluten in gluten foods. If some of us also react to someother component in gluten grains that might explain...

ARCHIVED Wavy Nails? Anyone?
ravenwoodglass replied to nu-to-no-glu's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You may want to have a dermatologist take a look at your nails. The type of curving you are referring to can be indicative of a few things, nutritional deficiencies being one but there are other more serious causes that should be ruled out, especially if you are a smoker. -
ARCHIVED Shampoo
ravenwoodglass replied to KarenFe's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I also suffer from hairloss which is most pronounced after a glutening but gluten in shampoos and such definately don't help the matter any. I use either Garneir or Dove products for shampoos but before I developed an allergy to soy I used Giovanni shampoos and conditioners. I really liked the Smooth as Silk conditioner until I developed the soy allergy... -
ARCHIVED Can't Get A Diagnosis! Frustrated!
ravenwoodglass replied to nu-to-no-glu's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you BM's are floating and watery that is a sign that you are not absorbing fats, common with celiac. I do have to disagree with the poster who told you that you should eliminate fructose first and then gluten. IMHO that is backwards. Concentrate on the gluten and limit fructose in the form of high fructose corn syrup if you want but I think you will... -
ARCHIVED How Long For B12 To Dissolve?
ravenwoodglass replied to foodiegurl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You can also put it between cheek and gums if putting it under your tongue seems uncomfortable. Do not however chew and swallow them. If you do you are defeating the whole purpose of the sublinguals as they need to dissolve into the mucous membranes. -
ARCHIVED What's The Skinny ?
ravenwoodglass replied to Tabasco's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Once your body starts producing antibodies they can basically attack any organ in your body. I think it is the antibody reaction that can cause the effects on our mood and behavior. I have severe neuro effects from gluten including ataxia and overwhelming depression that now that I am gluten free is short lived. Unfortunately it seems doctors have a hard... -
ARCHIVED Feel Like A Yo-yo
ravenwoodglass replied to KathiSharpe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There is something that doctors call the 'honeymoon' effect and was the reason why doctors thought that children could outgrow celiac. I think after you have healed and your body had been cleared of the antibodies it can take some time for them to reappear to the extent where symptoms are severe again. Your antibodies did build up though and your body was... -
ARCHIVED Can't Get A Diagnosis! Frustrated!
ravenwoodglass replied to nu-to-no-glu's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Posts like yours make me feel like either screaming or crying. They are the reason I am here. I am so glad you have found us, I wish I had before I got so advanced in this disease. I would go ahead and go with enterolab. You have nothing to lose. Also Enterolab can look for antibodies for up to a year after you go gluten free so you can start the diet... -
I buy either Now brand nuts or I get Wegmans brand. If you shop at Wegmans do be sure that the size container you get has the circle G. I usually get cashews there and noticed at one time that one size had the G and another size package didn't. When I called to ask they said that different companies produce the different sizes and the ones without the...

I had bronchitus every year since childhood. I never had a Christmas without it. By 5 years before I was diagnosed I had added asthma also and my inhalor and singulair were part of my multiple med routine. Every doctor I saw insisted it was a result of my smoking, I do have to admit I have smoked now for over 41 years. Yes I do know how bad it is for...

ARCHIVED Meat?
ravenwoodglass replied to nauseatingnancy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
She definately needs a more varied diet. If she can tolerate adding some well cooked veggies to the rice and perhaps some other fruits that would help nutritionally. What brand of rice milk is she using? If it is Rice Dream that could be a lot of her issue. Rice Dream is NOT gluten free, it is made with barley although they now have taken that off the... -
ARCHIVED Dh...does Anyone Have Pics?
ravenwoodglass replied to Tabasco's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I went to yahoo's search and typed in dermatitis herpeformis and then when the results came up I clicked on 'images' here is a link to the page. Open Original Shared Link -
He doesn't have a clue. Thankfully you didn't go to him with the active rash looking for a diagnosis. Unfortunately this is the case with too many derms.

ARCHIVED Uncertain
ravenwoodglass replied to BettyinMD's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Personally I would not advise that. For one thing for many of us the reaction we have to gluten after being gluten free for a time can be very violent and in some rare instances can result in permanent damage. I can only use myself as an example but the first challenge I did for my allergist the reaction was severe but not extreme. My second challenge... -
ARCHIVED Medications & Frustrating Pharmacists
ravenwoodglass replied to pdx.lila's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This pharmacist needs to be educated. Meanwhile is there another pharmacy you could go to? I also agree that the pharmacist should be reported, they are responsible for making sure that what they give you is safe for you. As to a lot of meds being safe, well unfortunately that really isn't the case. All your meds need to be checked and if they are generic... -
ARCHIVED Is It Supposed To Smell Like That?
ravenwoodglass replied to PattyBoots's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I love this bread mix but I usually use it for pizza crust. It smells great. Have you checked to see if maybe unknown item was left in the oven? Could one of the ingredients you added to it have gone off? -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else Told To Eat Gluten Again For A Biopsy?
ravenwoodglass replied to Birdie-Is-Tiny's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
For those that have DH that is a great way to go as it will have much less of a chance of causing a nasty setback that far outlives the gluten injestion. I know in myself just a day or two of gluten will produce the rash. Just make sure your dermatologist is familiar with how to biopsy to look for celiac/DH. They need to biopsy beside the rash not the... -
ARCHIVED So Frustrated With Getting Glutened.
ravenwoodglass replied to arkoflove's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thank you for pointing out that they use a dedicated facilty. That can be a very helpful bit of information when trying to figure out whether we were glutened or whether we may be intolerant to a seperate ingredient in the product. -
ARCHIVED Need Some Guidance
ravenwoodglass replied to jmwong982's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
DH in the context of the last post stands for (dear) or (darling) or... Husband. You will find in other posts that it is an abbreviation for the blistering skin disease we can have, dermatitis herpeformis. -

ARCHIVED Interpreting Blood Tests
ravenwoodglass replied to gsmack's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Celiac testing is like pregnacy testing in that positive is positive. If you want to pursue an endo please keep eating gluten. One thing you do need to keep in mind is that there are often false negatives in blood and biopsy for a variety of reasons. After you have done all the testing you choose to do please do give the diet a good strict try, sometimes...
