  1. Here is a link to an article right here on the home page https://www.celiac.com/articles/1106/1/Celi...toms/Page1.html Also the National Institute of Health is having a celiac awareness campaign here is a link to that also Open Original Shared Link Those should help get you started. One of the most helpful things for convincing my family to get...
  2. I eliminated it completely except for a tiny bit in my morning coffee and butter (I used Ghee at first which is lactose and casein free). After about 3 or so months I added back in cheddar cheese in small amounts and yogurt and a couple months later I added back mozzerela and tried a small amount of ice cream. Yogurt and hard cheeses like cheddar are pretty...
  3. I can only speak for myself but I have to be really cautious about even the tiniest amount of CC or my arthritis will flare. If your body does not like gluten it doesn't matter whether you are gluten intolerant or a celiac you still have to be just as strict with the diet. Some of us do tolerate oats if they are certified gluten free, I am not one of...
  4. What did you have for breakfast? You could try eating something completely different for a while and see if the rumbling still appears. For me that rumbing is one of the first indications that I am eating something I shouldn't although that may not be the case for you. If you are used to always having a dairy product in the am you could try using an...
  5. It is great to finally know and to be able to start the healing. It can be overwhelming at first visit to the store but it will get easier. If you stick with mainly whole unprocessed foods at first it can help you both heal faster and will be less stressful in the store. Since WF gave you a list you may want to sit and formulate your shopping list at home...
  6. It sounds like you have your answer about gluten. I also saw my arthritis go into remission on the diet but even a small glutening brings it back. The labs that Korwyn gave are the ones I would have said also. I went with Enterolab 5 years after I was diagnosed because my DD had the 2 gene panel and was told that she could not have had celiac because...
  7. I am tired so this will be short. The best test IMHO of whether gluten is toxic to you is how you feel when it is not part of your diet. Also since you had been gluten free for months your biopsy was, sorry to say worthless. If you improve on the diet you have two choices, you can go back to eating gluten until you get tested or you can eliminate it from...
  8. I firmly believe this to be true. It doesn't just apply to disease but also to poverty, abuse and all the horrible things that happen to us. It also is a choice though, we can let our experiences make us bitter and resentful or we can choose to let them make us more understanding and kind to all. I think pretty much everyone here fits into the latter catagory...
  9. You do need to check. Do read the whole label as at times barley or wheat grass will be in some that are labeled gluten free. I use either Country Life or NOW the most and they label very clearly. B12 is a really good idea but do get a sublingual at least at first as you will not be able to utilize the B12 in a swallowed vitamin.
  10. I agree with the above and with calling the company to check the ice cream. Some companies use barley malt in the natural flavors in ice creams but many are safe. By the way when you get that Snickers there is a phone number on the package. If you call you will get to whether something has gluten or not through the prompts. They have a pretty good list...
  11. The bottom line really is that if it bothers you avoid it. I know it is nice to really know why something doesn't sit well but sometimes we just don't know. I really like pepsi but I end up sick if I drink more than one so I usually stick with 7up unless I have a real need for the caffiene. All sodas especially the ones made with high fructose corn syrup...
  12. Have you ever tried rice noodles, available in the 'oriental foods' section of many markets? I eat Thai Kitchen rice noodles all the time and they are only pennies more than regualr pasta. My Wegmans carries both the angel hair variety and a thicker one like linguine. I throw them into chicken broth along with a handful of peas or corn from the freezer...
  13. Fat malabsorption is when the body passes fat out of the system without it being processed. It is not that the fat goes to areas where it shouldn't. I would suggest that you consult with a neurologist if you think you may be having some kind of brain related issues. Also simple blood tests can be done to check for a 'fatty' liver or liver damage. There...
  14. I would give them a try in small amounts at first. But it would not be a bad idea to check with your doctor first. What may have happened is what happened when I was allergy tested before I was diagnosed. I came up as allergic to all but one thing I was tested for out of 99. My allergist told me my immune system was reacting to almost everything because...
  15. If she can take Pepto Bismal liquid give that a try for the stomach issues. As far as the insomnia goes it could be part of her 'glutened' symptoms or it could be that since she is early in the diet she may be experiencing withdrawl and that could be a component of it. Since she is newly diagnosed she may also be anxious bout dealing with this at the start...
  16. You've gotten some great advice already. I just wanted to pop in and say that I hope your kitty gets better soon.
  17. The biopsy process itself is easy. He will go in, they will give him something that will put him to sleep for a short time and then he will wake up 10 to 15 minutes later and go home and resume his day. Some people will have a slight sore throat but other than that most have no after effects from the procedure. Noone can tell you for sure what his chances...
  18. The fact that you are B12 deficient even with supplementation is significant. Celiac damage can prevent us absorbing and being able to use the B12 from food or supplements that are swallowed. If your doctor has not suggested B12 shots you should get some sublingual B12 tablets. They dissolve in your mouth and absorbed into the bloodstream through your...
  19. What you did was a challenge and your body gave you the answer as to whether or not you should eat gluten. You should let your doctor know what happened. A challenge can be part of the diagnostic process and an important one. If your body feels better without gluten that is, in my opinion, the most important thing.
  20. If you should decide to do the gene typing no matter what the results of the typing please give the diet a good shot. There are more than just the 2 commonly looked for genes that are associated with celiac. The truest test of all IMHO is going to be the diet. You can start as soon as all the celiac related testing involving blood and endo is done.
  21. The reason your getting inconsistent answers is because sometimes it is gluten-free and sometimes it isn't, it depends on the maker. To my knowledge the name brand is not gluten-free but some of the generic for it are. The best thing to do is have your pharmacist check with the company directly when the script is filled. They should be doing it for all...
  22. Yes you are doing it right. You can also put it between your teeth and gums if that is more comfortable. Your whole mouth is lined with mucous membranes so as long as you don't chew and swallow it your doing things correctly.
  23. I agree totally. Please don't do that to yourself again. No matter how hungry you are or how tempting the food is it is so not worth the pain. I hope you recover quickly.
  24. My doctors thought I had MS also. My neuro symptoms are the first to show up when I am glutened. Within a short time of injestion my world 'shifts' and I will feel like I am falling when I am standing or sitting still. My balance will become much worse and I get a tingling pins and needles sensation in my hands and feet along with muscle cramps. I will...
  25. Your testing does not have to start with the chelation process, hair, blood and urine can be tested first and then if it is suspected that you need them they can go on to doing tests using chelation. Open Original Shared Link What has you concerned about heavy metal poisoning? Just having a few fillings in your mouth is not a reason to suspect this...
