  1. I'm sorry to hear this as I know you were hopeful to avoid meds. Many are helped a great deal by them but if she does have issues with the antidepressants since she has stronger issues with anxiety don't be afraid to ask to try an antiaxiety drug. It is good that you liked the doctor and felt comfortable with him. That helps a lot. I hope that she is...
  2. The NIH has a product database. You may be able to do a search of it and see if the product is listed. If it is the database will tell you what is in it and what it is derived from. Not everything is in there and in the long run it may be easier to just call the company but figured I would suggest it.
  3. There are gluten free breads and many can be ordered on line. Kinninickinick and Ener-g are the two that come to mind. There is also Chebe Bread which will be free of rice, many gluten free breads are rice based. You could eat sweet potatoes or yams even if you are avoiding white potatoes. What I always called Cellophane noodles, noodles made from I...
  4. If you are going to go to a GI for an endo as confirmation stay on gluten until that testing is done. You want the best chance possible to not have a false negative for one thing and for another if you go gluten free for a bit and then try to reintroduce gluten for a week you may find your reaction even more severe than it is now. If you are celiac or...
  5. The best way to find out for sure is to call the company that makes the brand you use. In most cases it should be safe but always check to be sure.
  6. Your child can and should be retested. So should all the rest of your family members even if not showing symptoms. If any that are negative should develop symptoms later on celiac should be the first thing they test for, not the last.
  7. Well first off there are a lot of false negatives but false positives are really rare and usually heard of when the endoscopy is either 'not conclusive' or a false negative itself. You need to listen to your body first and tests second IMHO. You do not need a doctors permission to be gluten free and if eliminating gluten helps and adding it back in makes...
  8. It sounds like your doctor is in denial about celiac himself or may not have been diagnosed yet. It is amazing how many doctors just are not informed at all about celiac. He may even at one point been tested and told he either 'doesn't have the gene' or had negative blood and/or biospy and doesn't know that both are common. Even if you don't get a diagnosis...
  9. I don't know where you live but if you have a Wegmans nearby you can call their 1 800 WEGMANS number or one of their pharmacies and they should know if their store brand is safe.
  10. You can buy sublingual B12 at a drug or food store or at a health food store. Make sure it says it is gluten free. If you have a Wegmans near you I know they carry it. As for the depression issue, there could be a couple of things going on. One is withdrawl from the gluten. Another is that for some of us gluten is a neurotoxin and can actually cause...
  11. All are welcome to post on this site as long as they are respectful of others and follow the board rules. In addition the poster actually has been diagnosed as producing antibodies to gluten which makes him gluten sensitive or celiac and he has a gene that is associated with it. DQ8.
  12. What does the bottle say as far as taking it? I was on an enzyme for a while and I did as the bottle instructed which was to take it with each meal. After a short time I dropped to just with taking it with high fat or high protein meals and was able to stop after a couple of months.
  13. I would talk to your GI doctor about this and any other symptoms that you are having. There are doctors that will stop the challenge and diagnose when the reaction is obvious. The way the body reacts to being gluten free and then the reintroduction of gluten can be a valuable tool to diagnosis.
  14. Those numbers are high. If you are going to have an endo to confirm do not go gluten free yet. If you are not going to have the endo then go ahead and get started on the diet. Welcome to the board and ask any questions you need to.
  15. What are you eating? You mention eating 'tons of rice' for breakfast, was that all? You may find you get less hungrey if you combine that rice with a good protein source. Try to balance all your meals with more protein than carbs. Nut butters, meats, eggs, beans, cheeses if you are not avoiding dairy etc. combined with fresh veggies or fruits and a small...
  16. Please don't take those drops. I doubt that they are going to 'reverse' all the healing you have already had but that doesn't mean you are not going to react to them. I had a very well respected naturopathic doctor, supposedly the best in NY who poisoned me with everything they gave me, we are talking hundreds of dollars for consultations and his special...
  17. This board has much less 'bad' advice than any other board I have seen. This board has a lot of knowledge to it and people who have struggled sometimes for many years to figure out what has caused their problems. Many of us have done a great deal of research in peer reviewed materials and share that research both in words and in links to the articles. This...
  18. It is not uncommon for the reaction to be delayed. That's one factor in making intolerances hard to pinpoint. As for myself I notice some neuro symptoms within hours but the GI upset usually builds up for up to three days then hits full force with D and severe cramps. That ends in a day but for me the reactivation of my ataxia and arthritis and tendon...
  19. I am glad the diet is helping you. You can still have great pizza just not with a gluten crust. Gluten Free Pantry makes a French Bread Mix that makes great pizza and there are ready made shells. I like the Kinnickinninck ones. I make pizza at least once a week and even non gluten eaters seem to like the gluten-free pantry crust. One hint with the...
  20. Yes you would need to go back to gluten for biopsy or blood test. You could go with Enterolab for stool testing for antibodies if you want testing without the gluten challenge. You also have to option of just staying on the diet if you choose.
  21. I would try the sublingual B12 first. As long as you are not taking massive doses of it for a long time there would be no side effects.
  22. Or to get some that he has moved out of the display for you. I am very sensitive and I wouldn't worry about this if they are not cut up. I would however use a bag to grab the ones I wanted and wash them as soon as they were out of the bag and ready for use.
  23. Have you had a blood test? If so what were the results. Also if you post your results from the endo folks may be able to shed some light. Inconclusive can sometimes mean damage is there but not enough to say total villi destruction. Some doctors will have you keep eating gluten until you get sick enough so that the villi are totally destroyed before they...
  24. Yea me too. I find it helpful to place a firm pillow between my knees sleeping on my side. If stuff gets bad enough I take gluten-free asprin which seems to help.
