ARCHIVED Are Wheat Patch Tests Accurate ?
ravenwoodglass replied to pat0301's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome to the board, it sounds like you are both allergic and celiac at the same time. I am glad you have had such good results from the diet. -
I hope everything goes well for you. I had to laugh about the dog. I have one who likes to do that to. At least it's a dog and not a youngun standing out side the door pounding and asking why your in there so much today.

ARCHIVED Negative Diagnosis, And I'm Still In Pain
ravenwoodglass replied to Sandi*'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sandi, If you can find an allergist who can guide you it might be a little easier. It is not easy to find one who will guide you in the elimination diet process but when you do find one it can help a great deal. It can be done on your own but an allergist can give you a starting point that will give you enough to eat and balanced nutrition. When my PT... -
Hair Loss Post Gluten Free?
ravenwoodglass replied to Crayons574's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I would have your salon check the ingredients in the dye, some do have wheat germ oil or other wheat based stuff in them. I color my hair at home and there are quite a few safe dyes, I use Garneir Nutritioneste and some times an herbal dye called Herbatint. There are others. I am glad to hear your having those levels checked. Make sure they also have checked... -
ARCHIVED Centrum Vitamins
ravenwoodglass replied to CeciliaCeliac's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Maltodexrin is safe as it is corn derived here in the US. If the problems started when you started the vitamin there may just be something in it that does not agreee with you. I would suggest stopping them and then seeing if the issue stops. You could try switching brands and using ones that are for sure allergen free. County Life will list if they are... -
ARCHIVED Neuropathy After Long-term Gluten-free Diet
ravenwoodglass replied to ratz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
When you say your B12 levels were fine what were they. We can start to get symptomatic from lack of B12 utilization with levels below 500 even though many doctors consider anything under around 200 to be fine. Your body can stop utilizing B12 for a long time before the tests 'bottom out'. Also if you are supplementing with B12 already that can effect the... -
ARCHIVED Blood Results All Normal Except Fasting Blood Sugar
ravenwoodglass replied to CGally81's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Looks to me that with everything in normal ranges that you are doing great. How are you feeling? I did notice he didn't test for B12, ferritin or folate. Ideally those as well as a bone density scan should be done also. -
ARCHIVED Synthroid And Vertigo
ravenwoodglass replied to frogrun's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I would call your doctor about this, that's a long time to have vertigo. -
ARCHIVED When A Gluten Free Cake Goes...well...glutened
ravenwoodglass replied to kaki-clam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh gosh I am so sorry this happened to you. I wonder if the baker had great intentions but no knowledge of CC issues. I hope you are feeling better really soon. -

Thanks for link. -
ARCHIVED Lactose Free How Long Before I Feel Better?
ravenwoodglass replied to pufffee's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Casein intolerance can cause a wide variety of symptoms. The best way to tell if they are causing yours is to drop it for a while and see what happens. Are you gluten free? Your symptoms could also be gluten. -
ARCHIVED Negative Diagnosis, And I'm Still In Pain
ravenwoodglass replied to Sandi*'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would go back to the original limited diet that had you feeling better and then slowly, while keeping a food and symptom diary add stuff back in one at a time. That might be helpful. -
ARCHIVED Centrum Vitamins
ravenwoodglass replied to CeciliaCeliac's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I found this also, but was unable to find info or a site for the US. This site is a in Canada. Has anyone found a site that is US related? I would consider dropping both and then if symptoms resolve add each back in one at a time and see if a reaction occured. -
ARCHIVED Dermatis Heretiformis
ravenwoodglass replied to missybean's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
For blood tests and an endoscopic biopsy you have to be on a full gluten diet. DH is a different matter. If you have an active lesion that is all you need. You don't need weeks on a challenge for it. The doctor will need to biopsy the area next to a lesion to look for DH not the lesion itself. If you have no active lesions then you might want to do a... -
ARCHIVED Positive Dh Biopsies And Blood Tests - Do I Need Gi Biopsy?
ravenwoodglass replied to esammarie's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
IMHO you shouldn't need to go through a procedure and the risks involved to educate this doctor. I would insist on an appointment face to face with him and show him the literature from the NIH and other peer reviewed materials to educate him. Then I would find myself another doctor. -
ARCHIVED Can Shingles Be A Symptom Of Celiac Disease?
ravenwoodglass replied to blueeyedvegan's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Did they actually diagnose you with shingles? This sounds like it could be DH. The gluten free diet wouldn't have any effect on shingles, AFAIK, but it would have a postive effect on DH. -
ARCHIVED Lactose Free How Long Before I Feel Better?
ravenwoodglass replied to pufffee's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You may be casien intolerant rather than just lactose. Are you avoiding casien as well as lactose? It isn't easy because it is in so much but you may want to consider dropping dairy in both forms. -
ARCHIVED Losing My Mind About This
ravenwoodglass replied to Lexi's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Have you ruled out other intolerances that may have cropped up? I can only go by my own experience but after being made very ill by a drug reaction I just never seemed to get back to where I was before I was given that drug. Finally I started a food diary and then tested with enterolab which showed I was also now casien and soy intolerant. As soon as I... -
ARCHIVED Negative Diagnosis, And I'm Still In Pain
ravenwoodglass replied to Sandi*'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Have you eliminated dairy and soy also? Many of us have other intolerances as well as celiac that come more to the forfront when we go gluten free. You mentioned you were gluten free and then did a challenge. How did you feel when you first went gluten free? Did you see some improvement then? If you have only been back on the diet for a couple of weeks... -
ARCHIVED Question About The Frequency Of Doctor Visits
ravenwoodglass replied to Jeggs's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Your regular doctor can order blood tests to check your levels if you want to. I had no followup myself because things resolved quite nicely gluten free and since I never tested positive on blood work any retesting for antibodies would have been useless anyway. I didn't see a doctor again until I had a 'yearly' physical at that point they checked my vitamin... -
ARCHIVED Please Help Me Read Son's Results
ravenwoodglass replied to Frances03's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It appears from this- Immunoglobulin A 38 reference range (45-234) that your son may be IGA deficient, that would cause a false negative on the celiac screening tests. If he is symptomatic it would be a good idea, IMHO to give him a good strict trial on the diet after you are done with all testing. -
ARCHIVED Relative Hitting New Lows
ravenwoodglass replied to debmidge's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It would be a really interesting topic for a poll. Count me in also. I don't know if my Dad was celiac but I do know i have 2 copies of the same gene so one came from his side of the family. I know that some forms of alcohol addiction are genetic. I started researching violent alcoholics in my late teens to try and find a way to forgive and understand... -
ARCHIVED Positive Dh Biopsies And Blood Tests - Do I Need Gi Biopsy?
ravenwoodglass replied to esammarie's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
You are already a diagnosed celiac if you have DH. I would skip the biopsy. -
To add to the great advice you have already gotten, have they checked your blood sugar recently? Just to be on the safe side I would ask the doctor to do a fasting blood sugar and an A1C in additon to checking your vitamin levels. The symptoms you are describing also for me would be glutening symptoms. Are you being really careful about CC issues etc...

ARCHIVED Restaurant Told Me Not To Eat Their Chicken...
ravenwoodglass replied to waitingdorothea's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am supersensitive and I have to agree with Peter on this one. As long as the meat is fresh and hasn't had anything added or injected into it no matter what it ate while living it is safe for you.
